A HUGELY awesome thing has just been announced: QPAD Dragons have just been formed, with SingSing and Wagamama in control. They have 4 others in trial at the moment. The good thing? They have bypassed the conventional eSport organization, and have gone STRAIGHT to a manufacturer/sponsor. This is great in many ways: first, they dont have to deal with the capital bottleneck that is eSport organizations. In multiple occasions most of the prize or sponsormoney havent got paid at all, or got stuck with the organization. In the case of QPAD, they give the players their own franchise, 90% owned by the players and 10% by their manager. Furthermore, they have been given a gaming house in Sweden (!) to play at. A swing in the right direction.

Gaming house in Sweden? That's gonna fucking suck considering how expensive it is here....

They''re going to have a few rooms at the QPAD offices in Stockholm, and they could either stay there or find apartments

So I've been reading up on heroes and stuff and played a couple of bot games (trying to get used to the courier instead of just backing). One thing I was really wondering was - is there a 'meta' setup that people tend to stick to, eg solotop, solomid, adc/sup and jungle in LoL? Ive watched a few games on youtube from various casters and it seems like every game has a different lane setup, where in LoL almost every game you could predict the lane setup would be identical. It seems much more fluid and open, with heroes having much less clearly defined roles. Is this accurate or have I just not got good enough hero knowledge yet?

Obviously certain heroes are more geared towards certain roles, but it seems like there is much more flexibility than I found in my time in LoL.

Yeah it's more flexible in my opinion, depending on who you go against, what you're laning with etc.

Hell if i know all those rules, but i mainly support so i'm 100% invisible to people in games unless i f*ck up anyway :D

The meta changes all the time. We've seen a 2012 that was dominated by jungle heros such as Enigma, Lycan, Chen etc going into a fast push. However, right now we see a lot of trilane's, often trilane vs trilane, with mid solo and offlaner. I think the offensive trilane, with farmer and two supports going hardlane, have been more used than the defensive trilane. Usually you only go defensive trilane if you know for sure there is an aggresive trilane or you are going for a FAST push.

Another alternative is doublejungle, such as Chen and Shadow Demon, that proceed to doubleroam to gank. Risky, but can pay off. LGD.int do it so fucking good with Misery and 1437.

This is what makes dota so much more enjoyable to watch, and play. We see a lot of variation, especially right now.

Usually like 1/2 support 1 initiate/tank and a couple of dps/carry, quite rounded that way. If you play on your own a lot you'll notice a lack of support which is quite important, but most randoms like the pew pew too much.

I think this is right, although I don't usually do the sorting out:

Supports go with carry(easy lane), tanks go with dps(hard lane), ranged dps that can gank/escape usually go mid although some melee are good at mid too(like Bloodseeker)

We also see a lot of formerly underused heros being used right now. Suddenly KOTL is instapick or ban, and Gyro too, either as support or hardcarry. Love to see Visage being used aswell!

Oh, yeah, I was talking competitive, soloque and pubs is usually solomid (usually ranged initative/dps such as QoP, Invoker, Puck etc), carry and support easy and the rest hardlane. However, you'll often see a jungle too, and an elusive offlaner hardlane

If you want to see some awesome dota, check out the G-League that was played during winter last year. It's all Asian teams plus LGD.int, the international team that's living in China at the moment. Good casters and awesome games. G-League

Yeah easier said then done trying to find affordable apartments in Sthlm...

Most apartments there aren't for rent, or only for rent for a few months. So they would have to buy their own places and that's just not possible unless their sponsor goes in and put up the money for them.

I know, I am from Stockholm. Some of them will stay in the QPAD offices, and two of them already staying in the 2GD Studio in Tyreso

That's more bothersome then it needs to be tbh. Just get them an apartment/house outside Sthlm county instead.

The way QPAD does it now isn't helping their players a whole lot. They are just piling on issues that shouldn't be there in the first place, and their team synergy is going to suffer for it.

Why so negative about it man? Had a chance to talk to Wagamama (one of their players in the team) and he's really happy about it. He's currently staying in the crazy house James 2GD have set up in Tyreso. He's loving it. SingSing, their other captain is coming back there to stay, with Mini joining them next week.

They have a standard salary from QPAD, rentfree gaming place where they can stay (temporarily or for good) and they are looking to perhaps find a flat to stay too.

I'm just saying that they should do it properly. Give them a proper gaming house.

Yeah well as you say, to get a house big enough for not only 5 ppl AND their computers may be hard. However, NTH has indicated that they have one incoming aswell.

So I've finally had an email from Steam telling me I can play DOTA 2. Any tips for a newbie before I go in and make a tit of myself?

Play bot games, when you do alright against medium bots, you'll be ready.

I play with a couple of lads & Nate, we're by no means pro, but we would like people who are better than Random Russian Retards or RRRs, Add me up on Steam:- Gwadien, if interested.

That's weird, I've not had leaver streak in months. One here and there, but never one after another. Are you quite new and player a bit further down in the matchmaking?

Yeah, as Gwadien said, if you have no prior MOBA experience, a few botgames would be good. DOTA in general got quite a big learning curve to not only understanding whatya supposed to do, but also execute it at the right time. Perhaps watch a few streams or games may help as well!

New as new can be, I just hit level 2 last night :p I appreciate that's the reason, it was the same in LoL pretty much until i hit 30 (and still from then too :p ) but it just makes the games feel a bit pointless.
