What I'd like to see is some expanded content for the game that lets you increase the squad size. IIRC you could have up to 26 men coming off the Leviathan Transport Interceptor in XCOM:TFTD. I don't care if you have to research and build a fuckload of stuff to make a new plane to do it. I want moaaaaaar men (and women).

Why? I generally only used 4 in the original xcom - maybe 8 on a base raid.

Moving tons of guys gets dull and in the original any bunching of troops earned you a grenade...

Yeah you could have like 8 interceptors in a base and 5 squads/base and 10 diff bases in xcom+tftd.
Tbh the thing I would like most is just having time units back, they make 1000000000000000x more sense.

This is true, once you had the flying uber armour and vehicles I'd just go 6-8man and have the rest of the supply taken up by flying plasma tanks iirc. so 6-8 guys+4 flying death pew pew things.

Was a bit miffed bout the end, all chars around 100 will power, no matter what i did half squad got mindcontrolled and killed the others, then rest got 2 shotted by ehtreal and the heavy mutons, ended up with just goin in with a sniper team and put two bullets in the main guy

Does a SHIV take up the space of a marine? Regardless of if it does or not, are SHIVs any good? I've not built any yet. Got two firestorms with emp cannons I haven't used yet, and just got all my guys in Titan armour.

Btw haven't touched the multiplayer at all yet, what's that like?

Spent friday-half saturday banging my head against the wall with impossible, note that it's not named that for names sake, restarting as games went to the toilet here and thre, learning the game and mechanics and so forth. Then the game finally destroyed my soul as this happened;

Escorting a scientist.
Turn before last sprint through building and to safezone, everyone alive and well.
Thin man pops through window and shoots my support dead.
Heavy panics and shoots my sniper dead.
Assault panics and shoots the scientist.
Mission fail.
Me --> o_O

So i went to classic xcom(ironman ofcourse, derp) and will leave impossible to a well deserved challenge after i'm done with it the fist time round.

As for a review? It's xcom, as much as i suspected.

shiv replaces a marine, and can be upgraded 2 or 3 times, they arent amazing but you dont need to worry about losing them as they dont rank up, you just buy a new one, and also more importantly are immune to psi stuff

titan armour is pish, grappling hook all the way.. till you get Archangel <3

Yup, loving the skeleton suites with built in grapple.

They make Col. Tony "Troll" barber, my sniper, especially happy. :)

http://xcom.nexusmods.com/

Will be a while before anything really gets done there, but, will be your primary source for game continuation.

For example;

http://xcom.nexusmods.com/mods/10/?tab=3&navtag=/ajax/modimages/?user=0&id=10

"Before a terror or abduction mission happens, a ufo is spawned. The ufo now needs to fly to its destination...if you have satelite coverage, you can intercept it. If you shot it down, the mission wont happen after all.

On abduction missions, there are 3 ufos because of the 3 abduction sites which you usualy select after the abduction mission takes place. If you shot all 3 ufos down (very very hard to do), there will be NO abduction mission at all. If you shot down 2 of the 3 ufos, you still get the abduction mission but with only one of the 3 locations to select. This means that even shooting 1-2 ufos of the 3 down, will lower the panic spread by alot. "

A lot of very silly bugs in this game. Like a mission in Nigeria, complete it and Australia is pleased wih lower threat level. Also had the game start jerking around with levels inside the large ships, very annoying and have to save, quit and restart the game. Had the Game lock up several times when mind controlled Aliens are killed. I tend to use mind control to keep the enemy brute packs busy whilst Snipers and Assault get in position etc. Most annoying bug is the upside down world with triple monitor setup - same for Nvidia and Radeon.

Gameplay, I don't find it as immersive as the original XCOM, the science and foundry tree is not nearly extensive enough and seems all a bit too easy. I want way more things to research and develope. The Sniper is generally OP and Etheral's mind controlling 100 Will with Psi Suits 100% of the time is damned annoying. Game needs some balance. Not one attack on my base so far! You would have thought the Aliens were a bit more inteligent.

Its a bit short but maybe thats my leet X-COM skills polished over years of playing the original. I think I miss a bit of the micromanagment of the original too but its still a good game - I'm off to play the next harder level...

There's some silly shit you can do that, the AI is funnily enough, more exploitable than the 1993 original, so 19 years and computers massively more powerful, but shitter ai. :/

I'm digging starting asia, getting fast satellites and getting the south america bonus that lets you get a shitton of research bonuses, you can get carapace+light plasma before lasers even done if you get fast arc throwers as well, and then you can do alien base as well and get very fast psi + hyperwave that lets you just fucking crush. ( obv into plasma cannon/emp cannons ) + firestorm. Then just upgrade to full plasma/whatever armour you want.

just started playing it there any other way to do missions except scanning? scanning isnt giving missions fast enough to keep panic lvls down and I've not got many satalites yet.

Nope, but a good way to kep panic level down is to see which parts of the world the mission is in.

Once you complete a mission, the panic level in that single country goes down, but it goes up in two whole parts of the world. So if you do a mission in australia, every country of europe and africa will get a panic increase.

If you first check your panic levels(from abduction go back and switch the worldview from bottom left), you should be ale to see which countries have most panic in general. If some part of the world has no yellow, then it's safe to leave that abduction site alone.

oiccccc didnt realise it went by "Asia" "North america" "Europe" etc I thought they were just individuals. is there anyway to get nations to rejoin the council if they leave? or do you basically have to restart?

Yeah the panic level increase goes by asia europe whatnot, but the mission will still only affect the country it's in. As far as i know there's no rejoining, but a couple of countries leaving isn't necessarily the end of the world. F*ck those eloping third world canadians :D

Oh on the cover system, being behind something doesn't mean you're covered, it just adds a bonus to your defense value. Been killed by a shot from two trucks, three dumpsters and a building away. Fun :p

Found how to slow the game down...

Dont complete the main objectives - you can still research a number of things but your enemy tech/aliens wont upgrade.

Yea, realised this myself and its what i'm currently doing because I fell behind in tech last time so I started again.

I waited until I had nearly total satellite coverage and a good amount of interceptors before carrying on with the main objectives.
