I had no problems upgrading, but its gonna take some time to get used to it, the whole picture scrolling thing is doing my head in, and all my passwords are having to be re entered, which is fine, but I cant remember half of them.

Oh and I had to call the automated MS phone support to get my Office reactivated because it saw this PC as a new one and said it was already activated elsewhere

"0xC1900101 - 0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation".

Keep getting that error on my desktop. Any ideas?

0xC1900101 - 0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation?

You using encryption software on some of your file folders?

Ah balls. I'm going to have to find my Win7 DVD to get the product key. Think it went into the attic when we moved. This is going to have to wait until the weekend.

Why do you need the key? Are you doing a fresh install?

It didn't ask for mine?

No, but for some reason the upgrade button hasn't appeared on my Win7 machines (it has on the Win8 laptop), so if I want to update I'll need to go down the media creation tool route, and that needs a product key. I have it...somewhere.

If you just hold on the updater will kick in by the weekend, they're doing a staggered thing whereby not everybody gets it at once but they've said that within 48 hours everybody should be notified via the original update thing.

And no @Edmond, not in this case. :) I thought it extracted the product key from a legit install but I don't think it does (that's why I deleted the post). Although, that little app was presented as a solution to someone having a similar issue to @DaGaffer so it might work... One of its features is "Reading current system key (XP and higher)" so you never know.

Ok scratch all of that it does extract the product key. Go on the "from clipboard" tab and click on the little Windows logo button next to the "Go!" button. Yay me.

Only if you do the fresh install. If you select upgrade now then you don't. It's the method I have chosen.

Fuck me, what a ballache.

Couln't wait until the weekend so installed. Oh great...no internet because the drivers that come with the installation are horse shit.

Thankfully I had my wife's laptop handy to find the correct LAN drivers.

Well win 10 is installed but I use the TV as a monitor and I can't view the whole of the desktop. The outer parts including the task bar are barely visible! Hopefully the new ati driver sorts it out otherwise I'm not sure how to fix it!

Not working. I just get "something happened" (very informative) and the install closes down.

That's most likely an overscan issue on the TV. Poke around in the menu for the option (they all call it something different).

... or just click a button and have it presented to you. You don't even have to type it you can just copy and paste (I just tested it and verified the key it gave me against the one on my Win 7 box).

Thanks!! Found a setting on the TV which fixed it. Odd it didn't occur with Win 8 though.

Got it working nicely now...its going to take some getting used to, not sure I am entirely happy with the start menu. Snappy enough though.

Edit, I like the way you have a task bar on a second screen too, something that bugged me in win 7 was the lack of it without a mod.

Ok got it working now. Did the update thing and deleted some of the boot files it copied over to do the update and works.

2 upgraded one in the process of.
