Can't force it on a device with no DVD or USB. Its just not happening :/

What sort of computer wouldnt have a usb port these days? I mean.... wut.

Also have you tried floppies? 3+1/4" so they should be a familiar size for you.

I played around with Cortana, bit pointless. Would be nice if the PC was fully voice activated and I could turn it on in the morning.

Windows 10 install today was fun. When I tried to install it I booted off the USB stick and got a message telling me I need to recover my laptop and that I should boot of my Windows disk. Which I had. This pissed me off and I could not get past it. So I thought as it was a new disk I would install 7 first and go from there. This worked fine. In went the 10 USB stick and again it said I had to recover my machine as the OS was missing. This pissed me off even more as 7 worked fine. I remade my USB key and it worked first time. So it looks like something was written to the USB stick so it would not install. Same stick with an extract of the same ISO and it worked fine. This pissed me off so much I turned it off and have not touched it since.

Overall finding the experience positive. Better than 8.1 which I'd been using for a while. Faster than that and 7.

pretty painless upgrade for me, looking like a fairly polished os at the moment.

For me the update process took a few hours because my internet connection is slower then dialup circa 1993. Other then that it seems fine. Some oddities in Edge, like going full screen with a single click on the top bar sometimes.

Some things don't make much sense. Some settings follow the hand held "style", few settings, fat finger friendly, long list you can scroll in, one option per line, check boxes in the form of little left and right gages... that sort of stuff. Then other settings are copy paste looking Windows 7 settings. Changing resolution is a good example of overlap, you can change resolution in a few different ways, Start menu --> Settings --> System --> Advanced settings... or Right click on start button --> control panel --> yada yada yada... You end up in the old place we are used to be in since Windows 95 (Or at least Win7 ;)). Why both? Why not convert all the settings to the new hand held look? There's nothing wrong with evolving it and using the hand held visuals, as long as you have all the settings available.
The old control panel is "hidden", you can access it by right clicking on the start button (very nice), but why don't it show up under settings ON the start menu, which is the first place most people would go to (I'd guess).

The biggest Disappointment by far is how they completely butchered OneNote. I love(ed) OneNote, it's super convenient and have just the right amount of features that I need... except for the option to chose one language for a whole notebook/chapter/page... Anyway, the new version is a large pile of flaming wank. There's tons of functions missing and the menus are horrible, right click context menu now only has three options - cut, copy, paste... yey! You can't change font or font size anymore... yey! etc etc... poo!

The "new" scroll function @caLLous mentioned is great, it's been around Mac OSX since forever and it's super easy to get used to, and super confusing when switching to different devices that don't support it.

Clicked one button and it was done. Very fast and seems quite nice.

There are a few settings that are full of AIDs that I am finding as I go along but that's the same with any new OS install. Power options, file options etc.

Going to do a bit og gaming at the weekend so will see what the performance is like. I doubt its much different though.

The most painless of painless upgrades.

Do you want to install it? Yes
3 Questions, walked away, came back 30 mins later, clicked next, 2 min of 'Getting things ready' done.

10 mins disabling all the silly stuff (Quick Access, Cortana, P2P Win Updates over the net, etc)

Aye, the P2P thing has the potential to be shady as fuck, if someone infects an update, sticks their P2P on, bang virus across all 10 platforms with P2P enabled (maybe)

If you're using the pre-installed version, that's basically the phone version, running on your desktop. you can download the proper office version for free at https://www.onenote.com/

Right-clicking on the start button is probably the single most useful menu I've ever seen in Windows.

Its one of those hard learned but oh so awesome things.

Like Shift + Rightclick in a folder lets you open a command prompt there, this was Poags tip of the week (corporate weekly newsletter) a couple of weeks back because i couldn't think of anything better, apparently not many people knew it and i got thanks emails from all over the place.

Oh yeah, and Ctrl + A, Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V all do what they're supposed to (Ctrl + C still breaks an operation as well) in the Command Prompt now.

Just a friendly suggestions. You might want to double check it, the wording is really dodgy. Translated from Swedish it's something like "Download from all your computers and devices on your network and the internet". The 2nd option is the same except the "and the internet" part.

I'm actually not sure it is such a bad idea though. While I haven't looked into it further isn't it just enabling windows update to use torrent technology? This have been around for quite some time for other downloads - WoW patcher being maybe one of the more well known, and I have not seen any reports of malicious intent to infect all the wow players through the patcher. If you where to do that you could potentially hit millions of targets so it seems like a "good" source of new drones.

So why would it be bad to use it for Windows update? I am quite sure that downloading the OS in the first place was done through torrent tech as it was just a little too fast. MS have some serious resources but serving 14 million devices from traditional client - server setup seems improbable. (MS reported 14 million devices using windows 10 after the first 24 hours).
Could it be dangerous? Sure, but so is visiting your online bank and we do that all the time.

My reading is that on the setting I have it on, updates come directly from Microsoft. They can then also be accelerated by any machine on my LAN that already has them?

I read about WiFi sense and thought it was good. I share my network and then my mates can get on and stay isolated and I do not need to give them a key. Then someone pointed out that anyone who has used my network in the past can share it will all of thier Facebook friends and make stuff discoverable without me being able to do anything? A change of key later and I am back to not worrying about it :)

I just tried to upgrade from a bootable USB I created using the tool, but it's saying my key is invalid.

Annoying thing is that (for once) I paid for this bloody OS and have the product key still with the fucking media!
