Water or Coke

Just got this emailed to me, thought I would share it, food for thought (if its true!)...

---------------------------------------------------
This is really an eye opener!

We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written down like this before.

WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population.)

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pains for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

COKE
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would YOU like a glass of water or coke

Interesting Fact: Coke outsells bottled water by 20 times in the USA

[householdtips]Brown sauce is also good for cleaning dirty metals. Try putting an old coin in a saucer of brown sauce, 5 minutes will do it.[/householdtips

*buys a crate of coke*

Note:

Stomach acid normally has a pH of 1.0 to 2.5, while the pH of the esophagus is normally greater than 5.0.

Most of the stuff about coke is bullshit (its "dissolving" qualities). However I can confirm ham in coke is awesome. It caramelises and gives it a lovely smokey flavour.

Interesting fact: clean and pure water is available on tap in almopst every household in the USA, negating the need to buy bottled water in the first place.

Thats why Bulemic (sp?) people have really fux0red teeth cause stomach acid dissolves them through so much barfing ..

I did a test once with a tooth when I was a yongun cause my mother kept telling me that if you put a tooth in some Coke it would disolve in a week. Its bull, it was there for about 2 months before someone finally threw it away and the tooth didnt look so bad, bit manky but still pretty solid.

I had a kidney stone a couple of years ago, it was fucking painful, and I was in hospital etc.
One of the causes of this was lack of water. I was recommended to drink at least a litre of water a day, something i have done almost without fail ever since. It has loads of good qualities, certainly including aiding sharper concentration and also with such things as much milder hangovers :)

Pure urban mythology. 75% of people are NOT chronically dehydrated. Definately look it up on www.snopes.com as recommended above.

"In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger"

I dunno about the stats, but this generally rings true. It's often the case that when you feel hungry, drink some water and you don't feel hungry any more. I think this is true for a lot of people, but maybe don't realise it. Hunger and thirst can quiet easily be mistaken for each other, bizzarely.
I do also think many many people are dehydrated a large amount of the time but do not realise it.

I suffer from stomach problems myself and have chosen to cut fizzy drinks out of diet entirely. It's amasing the effect this stuff has on your stomachs chemical balance and general digestion. This has been my first hand experience anyway. I feel much better for not drinking them ....... although avoiding fizzy beer is a tough one ;)

Consuming fizzy drinks, like fast/convenience food, seems to me another example of the "well we know it's not good for us, but we like it" attititude ....... which I think the media/advertising has a lot to answer for. This pot is calling a kettle black though, as I'm a smoker ....... and order pizza when neither of us can be arsed to cook ;) heheh

To be honest, I love Coke, but I dont drink it much, to do so would increase my tolerance of caffeine. I use a caffeine supplement when racing called Boost (origional huh?) made by AllSports in doncaster. This basically has the same concentration of caffeine in one 1/2ltr bottle as about 12 cans of Coke.

I also drink about 3-4 litres of water a day. As an athlete, it is impossible for me to perform with a dehydrated body. As a human being, it is also impossible to function, fully, whilst de-hydrated.

I believe the average human being is supposed to drink about 2 ltrs of water a day, in addition to your normal umpteen cans of coke and cups of coffee.

I have an ongoing problem with paying attention to when I feel thirsty. My wife and son really winge when they get thirsty, but I can go all day without a drink, not that I don't feel thirsty it's just that I don't winge about it.

I actually have to force myself to drink water, the thirst desire is not enough.

My thirst desire tells me

"I NEED LAGER ! COLD COLD LAGER !!! NOW !"

No mention of water ever.

A lot of people confuse the feeling of being thirsty for being hungry

When I want lager I rarely try to cure it with crisps.

Sometimes wine.

I'm assuming you now that is way too much. :)

I'm a coffee addict, probably drink 15/20 cups a day, and sleep like a baby :)
