I thought I had food poisoning the other day Tom, but it was just the worst case of the Flu I've ever encountered. I was coughing so hard I pulled a muscle in my back and could barely walk, my temperature was all over the shop and whenever I tried eating somethin... well, let's just say it didn't stay down for that long. Everything tastes weird as well, water was just about the only thing that tasted similar to, well, water. I got a massage off a friend which sorted my back out good and proper, and just sort of lounged around for the rest of the week until the rest of the illness fucked off. But anyway, I had some dodgy eggs the night before (the hob wasn't working so we got scrambled eggs going in the microwave :/) and a couple of really fucking harsh bongs. I still put it down to coincidence though. :(

I think you'll find my arteries are quite alright actually. Eating fat does not necessarily lead to being fat, or unhealthy. In fact, I'd wager I'm considerably fitter than you :D

Carbohydrate abuse is supposedly a larger cause of fat people being fat than fat people eating fatty foods.

Exactly. We evolved as hunter/gatherers, therefore to eat meat, fish, berries/fruit, and root vegetables. Pasta, sugar, bread are man-made, and not as healthy as the manufacturers would like you to believe.

I agree with you entirely....well apart from you being fitter :D ....it doesnt mean you will be fat and I'm not saying you are.

But eating lots of fried food can cause high colesterol and heart disease.

I think eating a good fried breakfast perhaps once a week is good for you....everything in moderation is what they say

Eating lots of fried food, and nothing but fried food, yes thats bad for you. I also eat lots of fish, veg, cheese, etc. Yes I eat lots of fat, but my body doesn't store that fat, as I eat a diet so low in carbohydrate.

There is a mis-conception that all fat is bad for you. In fact, the only fats that cause problems are saturated fats (all animal meat contains this), trans-fatty-acids (don't ask, I just know they're bad), hydrogenated vegetable oils (chorley cakes).

There are lots of other fats around, and so long as you take a good measure of all of them, you're not going to have a heart attack. Besides, eating a fry-up means I'm getting lots of proteins, which are good for muscle building - eating cereal just gets you lots of carbohydrates, which can have a destabilising effect on your blood sugar. Thats not including the milk either, which contains lactose.

Depends how you cook it tbh. If your having a good quality egg fried in sunflower oil theres nout wrong with that.

Carbs do make you fat but if you live healthy and excersize regulaly the carbs just go to replacing glycogen etc, if you don't excersize and eat carbs it will be stored as fat.

There is a famous diet called the atkins diet where you don't eat carbs but eat a lot of fatty food which are high in protein ment to be very sucessful apparently.

I eat a lot of carbs though but thats because i live a very active lifestyle (im a life guard as well as having another job, part of a swimming club, part of the gym and training to join the royal marines after a levels) and without them i would feel like shit, not be able to do as much as i do. As long as your excersizeing, carbs won't make you fat so they arn't bad for you at all, just some people eat them in excess.

The atkins diet is a fable.

It works to a degree but makes you feel like utter shit.

You need some carbs to an extent. About 100 grams a day. But you can get this from natural sugars in fruit etc.

Or if your like me damaging a bunch off beer before getting stuck in about the jack daniels :)

Depends on the person I think. My dad does it a few times a year and has great sucess from it and has never complained about mood or physical side effects.

Sorry m8 thats not completely true. The Atkins diet is actually based on strong scientific evidence, some of which dates back around 40 years or so. There are several stages to that plan, the first of which (and the one people think IS the Atkins diet) is induction - where you eat less than 20 grams of carb per day. That's just to kick-start your body into ketosis (not ketoacidosis), which is basically where your body says "shit! no more carbs! err....hang on....lets use this fat instead". There are 3 more stages, which gradually bring you back up to a healthy intake of carbs, and the timescale is weighted against the amount of fat loss you incur.

The shitty feelings that people suffer are nearly always down to carbohydrate addiction (food cravings), and caffeine addiction. There is a bit of constipation, but that clears after a week or so. The myths around this diet are unbelieveable, they are all baseless.

You only need to eat as many carbs as your body requires, Custy is absolutely correct in what he says - too many carbs and the body converts the glucose into fat.

This is why many people develop diabetes, because their blood sugar level is too high. Eventually, the body becomes so proficient at producing insulin the moment any glucose enters the blood.

One more thing - the government have advocated a low-fat high-carb approach for the last 20 years or so - and obesity levels in the population have soared. Not all of this is down to lifestyle. Ask your grandparents if they think fatty foods are bad for you.

I'd just like to point out I've lost over a stone on the Atkinson diet and I feel fucking marvellous. No side effects, nothing. It depends how much you stick to it : it doesn't mean you have to do the diet 100% : noone can live 100% carbohydrate free. I still drink vanillo coke every day, and did through that month of dieting.

Fable my arse :)

What kind of things did you eat during the diet? I'm a very fussy eater (no vegetables except potatoes) so most diets can't work for me :)

Ok i was a bit harsh with the fable thing

To lose weight a reduction in carbs is essential. I have lost over 4 stone now by doing this.

What I meant is that you cannot live completely carb free when you excercise. Hence I still eat a enough to stop me keeling over.


The point I was maybe trying to make was that it doesnt teach you healthy eating as such and therefore in my eyes it is not a way of life. More of a means to an end.

Almost anything apart from carbohydrates....so no potatoes, bread, pasta...

They even say cut down on regular veges in the first stage but then you also have to take mineral supllements
