yeah well comparing 9/11 is quite different. 9/11 cost a few thousand lives and this catastrophe is going to cost over 150k. But the reason why it was a such big thing is that it was an attack on US and kinda destroyed their idea that they can go bomb whoever they want and not get anything back.

He, along with many others in the FH community (FH community, not just the DAOC area) has very serious concerns for the safety and lives of friends he met on his recent trip to Thailand. Now, if you owned and ran this forum, and were similarly affected, would you appreciate people posting on your forum in a way that shows such a total lack of respect for the dead, the homeless and their families and friends?

Think about it.

This forum will rapidly lose credibility if it is moderated arbitrarily at the whim of the owner. FH and BW before it always have had a very admirable philosophy concerning forum rules, and I have always admired the way they are applied fairly and without bias. This thread is disturbing though, very untypical for a FH thread, and I really hate to see it.

Bottom line is, this is a very emotive issue. One which is for some people touched personally by the disaster perhaps too emotive to start discussing on this forum. What I dislike is anyone who offers an opinion which is contrary to the spirit of this thread are being abused in a most outrageous way, some even being banned. FH is better and fairer than this. Surely we can discuss our opinions without arbitrary censorship, clumsy moderation or childish name calling?

But yes i agree, banning someone is fine if its needed but doing it in such a smack talking haphazard way is not really the done thing is it.

Moderation here is sometimes done on the whim of the mod rather then following policy.

But its certainly a terrible thing that has happened and they deserve as much help as all of us can give but to be totally fair this thread would of caught as many views on general as in here.

A bit more info on what actually happened. They knew about the tidal wave roughly two hours before it happened, unfortunately they assumed it wouldn't be such a threat. Apparently they didn't want to worry all the (Western) tourists. uke:

The Earthquake came on very suddenly and came as a total suprise, the Indian Ocean doesn't normally get this sort of Seizmological activity and so there wasn't any early warning apparatus in place.

A serious topic as this does not belong to a game forum. Just look at how the thread has developed - you really think a single person has found out about this disaster on freddyshouse? If so I pity them: The news has been on TV, in papers, in online magazines, on the radio almost 24/7 the last days - noone on earth could have possibly missed it.
I am also not interested in whether and how much people have donated. Helping those people affected by the disaster is a personal decision and should not be abused for boosting your image on an online forum.

Because this is a forum. Go look that word up in a dictionary. If you don't like my opinion on a subject, tough. I am not starting a flame war by posting an opinion that is different from yours. This thread became flamy when people immediately started censoring and abusing people who didn't share the need to send of charity money to the survivors of the disaster.

And on topic, the decision to give to charity, any charity and under any circumstance is the decision of the individual. Noone should ever tell me to donate, or judge me as uncaring if I decide not to donate. Seems to me that alot of people in this thread, and society in general, feel the need to shout to the world the fact that they have donated. Charity isn't really about making yourself look better in the eyes of those around you, and I do wonder if the motivation in some cases is selfish.

There'll always be stupidity, so tbh, I'd never post a serious issue on these boards, cause most likely someone will flame it, like always. I'm also in no way interested in how much people donated. I've heared it for like 4 days nonstop on TV and that's for me who rarely swiches that thing on, so I guess most others have also heared it and know what's going on.
I mean sure, you can post that here in RvR discussion if you want to reach many people at the same time, but it's in no way a surprise that the post develops like this.
