Something i don't understand is. The albs who died at emain. Before the savage hits their Back they Will get mezzed away bigtime to build up the big Quad. At this Point i would start to run like hell. But many of them just died at the amg not realising what is going on until the Claws reached their spine. And i have seen rvr Videos where Ppl started to WALK away from the savage who stunned them Straight until they got quadded to death.

We play in a game of great information etc. And savages like Mumin are well known. FH posts, ircwhiners, deathspamms...etc.

:(

You learned that from me. xD

Strong Copy/Paste!

i think alot of people wouldnt have moved away becuase they didnt know what water sucking out meant. We in the western world are far better educated than those in the 3rd world. Most people know that when the water gets sucked out thats its the Tsunami building up water. Yet people in the areas effected, especially the islands north of Australia and those in the Indian Ocean arnet gonna know what it means. Some will but alot wont, and masses of people act and react far slower than fewer, dont have to look outside of daoc for that. Additionally many people will be wanting to recover their posessions and may die in the process. An awful lot of the deaths came in Indonesia, there they have, as u may have seen, crappy houses that werent able to stand up to anything.

I expect the deathtoll to reach 200k and double that from disease, most of these deaths are in the countries that are least developed and unable to know how to effectively escape tsunamis or know how they work.

Donated £100 and sure I will give more at some point.

To all the people with replys like 'what has this to do with RvR' etc..

(and espically this...
Easy rebuild those houses get 4 sticks and its done
)

...Fuck off. How insensitive can some people get? Count yourself lucky that you dont live in a part of the world plagued with poverty and diseases. The fact you can access the internet, plays games on it, read forums, do a whole lot of other stuff those people cant.

I know myself that I had been thinking about this issue even before the flood happened about a week back... and some of you really need to take a look at your lifes and just think how damn lucky you are.

Once again we have a wanna be dictator...this is free country people have aright to say what ever they want.Just because you and the majority does not agree, not in anyway does that give you the right to surpress that persons freedom of speech.

Ted and Deebs make the rules round here, and I simply enforce them. Before you preach about your right to freedom of speech take a look at Deebs' news article. He, along with many others in the FH community (FH community, not just the DAOC area) has very serious concerns for the safety and lives of friends he met on his recent trip to Thailand. Now, if you owned and ran this forum, and were similarly affected, would you appreciate people posting on your forum in a way that shows such a total lack of respect for the dead, the homeless and their families and friends?

Think about it.

like it or not pal everyone has freedom of speech, far more people died to give us that right than died in this disaster.
I too have friends in Thialand some living there, 4 friends backpacking around so please don't preach to me about the worry of people there.Unfortunatly not all people are considerate and think of others. As for owning a forum and being affected, just because i didn't agree or like what someone said no i wouldn't just ban them.If i didn't want people posting things on MY forum i wouldn't make it public.

Enough apathy from me..

Could someone please post a charity (ideally medical) that will be active in SE asia and is known to have a low overheads/corruption. I was thinking of doctorswithoutborders.org anyone have any other suggestions?

I support Unicef and Red Cross with a monthly fee. I am a poor man, but I hope I make a difference anyhow.

You are forgetting something. That does not apply to forums in any way and there is a reason for it.

Bull shit.

Please keep this thread on track. Dont post unless you are contributing sympathy or compasion to those who have lost something in this tragedy or are just trying to discuss what has happened. There really isnt any point to telling us why you dont think this post should be here is there? Just dont read it if it doesnt interest you.

However ,

Iorlas your reasoning is incrediable poor... Think about it for one moment, Someone has posted that people shouldnt be posting here, hence by your own logic impinging on the original posters continued freedom of speech, then that person gets banned for being inconsiderate and then you get all high and mighty complaining about them losing their freedom to speak even tho they themseleves were trying to stop other people form talking about the issue... Dont you think that is hypocritical?

You also to not appreciate that freedom of speech is a right and with it comes responsibility. You cannot expect to mouth off and expect people to let you continue harassing/offending people without reprimand. His original reply was not appropriate for the global audience of FH. He should have been banned he can continue

Some people will never realise how lucky they are, to be born in certain places, my country is one of the poorest on the planet, the people have hardly any assistance, low education standard and many haven’t even enough food for themselfs. And still we are collecting what we can, people who cant donate money, walk kilometers just to offer a small bag of rice, wich means that often they will not enough rice for them and there familys to eat.

There's a difference between freedom of speech and mouthing off people...

Several people expressed their feeling (without demand) about the placement of this thread... Others reacted saying those that discussed the placement of this thread have no humanity... One has nothing to do with the other... Have those that said the later, abused their free speech? Because they did insult some of the people that posted here...

If discussions arent allowed, then this isnt something that should even be in a discussion forum... But it is, so expect people to discuss the topic... Good or bad... I dont think you should ban people for expressing their feelings, unless these feelings personally insult people...

So far, only one person did that and he got banned... And I dont see how I could insult anyone when I suggest a better placement would be General Discussions instead of RvR Discussions... Because in a way its not even appropriate to post this type of thread in a discussion forum where the average post is about 'killing y00 in gamezor'...

But its stupid to ban people for expressing their feelings... In a discussion forum you discuss stuff... And you dont ban them if you dont hear what you want to hear...

The mods have made clear that this thread is here to stay... Fine... But I still think its not appropriate to have it in this forum... It has nothing to do with how I feel about the disaster, which is probably the same for most that have expressed their feelings about the placement...

I think the disaster is awful too, and I'd be disappointed if there wasn't a thread about it on these boards. But I also believe there's a place for everything, and in this case it's not the rvr discussion forums.

Just for the record, Freedom of Speech doesnt apply to private forums. The owners/operators can censor anything they want on their own intellectual property - beeing here isnt a right, its a privilige.

Magmatic, everyone knows that the disaster is not related with RvR in daoc. Do you honestly think anyone thought otherwise? (witty comments inc).

Perhaps you should start asking yourself: Why are you on this solo crusade trying to argue a point that everyone allready knows?

We live in a World of Information. And Catastrophes like this are well known.Reportages, Cinema Movies...etc.

:(

Well older generations in the affected areas knew that when the tide siddenly went out that a large wave would soon be at the shores, unfortunately this hasnt been passed onto the newer generations and particularly to tourists who go stand and take photo's of the sudden departure of the tide.

As for not knowing well, experts picked up on the quake as soon as it happened, there were a few problems.

1. Experts did the calculations right after the reading to confirm what had happened indeed had, but they had no way to get the information out in time, there are no specific government agencies or tv stations to get these messages out straight away.

2. There are warning systems and procedures for earthquakes in the pacific ocean, and due to its size the warning systems tend to work, but the indian ocean is smaller and very narrow, with the initial wave travelling at around 500 miles per hour there so little time if any to get people evacuated, also in the affected parts there aren't any warning systems like what are used for the pacific.

I presume after this an alert system will be introduced but still its too late for many many unfortunate people :(

Yes, and he was banned for making comments that were both inappropriate and offensive.

TBH I applaud both the thread starter and the mods for allowing this thread to remain in situe. At least here it gets decent coverage and reminds all of us how lucky we are.
