A while for the Desire Hd I'd imagine, HTC Sense.com is more involved than the normal Sense ui is it not?

You'd hope that they've learnt their lesson and have modularised it/widely decoupled it from the OS, but they probably haven't!

Agrhghghg fuck right off. Having problems with my desire again, the phone reboots, locks up and the battery gets very hot. I really can't be without my phone for a few weeks again.

I am seriously considering ditching android and going the evil route.

Chet, I've just picked up an iPhone 4, it's absolutely fantastic, no regrets. I miss the occasional Android function but overall it's just so much better for me. The attention to detail of the OS and the beauty and build quality of the handset make it a joy to use.

It's so expensive though, looking at contracts for it, and most are asking for a ridiculous amount of money towards the phone.

Desire HD is more cost effective, but my desire woes are putting me off android and HTC.

True that, I never went with a contract, I bought it outright for £499 with the intention of putting a £10 a month sim in it. Orange wanted nigh on £200 for the handset and a fortune-a-month contract. Fuck that, never again. There is some method in my madness, the new iPod touch weighs in at £190 for an 8 gb (my iPhone is 16gb) and was in the market for an iPod. Gradually my Hero started to act weird, so I killed two birds with one stone (iPod and new phone) and went for the iPhone. Looks like I'll get £90 back on my Hero, so I really only paying £220 for a sim free handset that's going to be way cheaper a month. I also reckon I will be able to sell it 12 months from now and get a significant chunk back.

Hmmm... £500 notes you say?

I was looking at Tesco Mobile, they want £229 for the phone on a 12 month contract at £35 per month.

So that's £649 for the year. I pay £20 a month with o2 at the moment for a the same minutes / text allowance. If I went the off line route I would pay £740 for the next year.

Pretty good rates at Tesco tbh! Think I'll give o2 a ring and do the ole, "cancellation time, what can you offer me" speech.

(It's even cheaper for a Desire Hd from Tesco, £640 for the year. £280 handset on a 12 month £30 contract.)

Well, HTC have just sent me my nexus one back, seems to work fine. Now I just need to flog it off.

Having no problems with my desire hd so far, just that it's a bit too big!

The dual core android phones should be out soon, LG already have a model, prob won't get released over here until march though.

Can you Apple gays start a new thread please? This is for people with proper phones, not shiny "I'm a cock" devices, with monstrous design issues and limited functionality.

Having two Android phones and an iPhone, I fail to understand what you mean about limited functionality as they all pretty much all do the same things?

Funny, you've managed to describe your Sony phone down to a T.

I just updated Google Maps to v5.0 and OMG it's an improvement!

The biggest improvement is that it uses vectors for the roads instead of graphic tiles so you can zoom in and out smoothly. The compass is also nice so it can rotate the map into the direction you're facing.
I've not tried out the Navigation yet but I'm about to go 100miles to do a call so we'll see how it works.

Google Maps for Droid phones becomes a LOT better ? The Register

This is good news,I was just about to post and say that what it needs is route caching. I'm going on holiday to Vancouver and the Rockies next year and would like to use the phone as sat nav, but wouldn't be able to due to lack of signal and data costs. I went to the Register link you gave and it seems that it does now have better caching. yay.

Funny how people quickly turn from not a great fan of the iPhone to omg it's a great phone once they either have play with one or get tired of their phones which while probably have a better spec don't work that great.

At the end of the day what your getting with the iPhone/Apple is a quality product that works out of the box is user friendly and just feels great and looks great to use.

Funny, I never said how great it is...? Nor that my phone doesn't work that well - it's faulty, it needs repair, otherwise it's great.

I'm probably going the DesireHD route after all, slightly cheaper over the year (better contracts offered compared to ipoo), google maps pre-loaded, and I can use swype with it.

I wasn't really referring to anyone in particular.

I'm still not a fan of the 3G or the 3GS and would still rather have something else. Whilst the iPhone 4 doesn't really break new ground, the design is just sheer luxury. That was one of the reasons I went with the iPhone 4; it was an Apple product that I could get onboard with.

For my own personal circumstances, the iPhone 4 made sense: I wanted a new iPod with Retina display and I was needing a new phone as my Hero was showing the usual signs of coming to the end of it's usuable life. My moded Hero was tip top (thanks Nath ;) ), and what I will not do is proclaim in the style of OMG FFS IPHONE OWNZ ALL because it still falls short in some areas for a lot of people.

For me, it's epic.

Sounds to me it is everything you want in a phone.

Any problems with it so far?

Well I've requested my pac from o2 - their retentions are shocking now.

No flexibility at all. I quoted standard price plans from other networks that they couldn't even come close to matching.

They were quite happy to concede that I'd be better off leaving them!

Orange were cocks with me when I called them up to request a micro sim with adaptor should I choose to get an iPhone 4. They said 'we can send you one, but you'll need to pay an extra £10 per month for an iPhone tariff'. So I said 'but I may decide not to put in in an iPhone so why should I pay an extra £10 per month when I already pay £40 just for a micro sim???'. He said 'that's just the way it us, I physically can't issue the micro sim without putting you onto an iPhone tarrif'. I said 'that's an outrage, I want to cancel my contract'. He said 'ok no problem sir, your contract can be cancelled in January'. Absolutely fuck all effort to retain business, they weren't interested at all.

That surprises me.
They couldn't do enough for me when I renewed in June. 30% discount, 200 extra minutes, unlimited data (well it's 500MB now) and the phone (Desire) dropped to 1p from £99.

Maybe it's because my total spend across 3 contracts comes to gold priority.

I'm on silver priority, and I've been with them 7 years now I think. This is the fist time they've had a problem, and specifically because I asked after an iphone contract. They don't have an android phone that I'd want on offer. They tried to sell me a HD 7 for more than my current contract, with less minutes and less data. I've had a 40% discount on my account for the last 3 upgrades running.

No loss though, I've found their reception to be poor recently where I need it, and their data shockingly slow.
