Any other Android HTC phones coming out soon? I'm not keen on Samsung...
I don't really want the Desire HD (too big for my liking) or the Desire Z (I don't want a slide out kbd).

I'm still very happy with my Nexus One but would like something else fairly soon!

So you have three flavours of the Desire, the Legend and the Wildfire to choose from, but you want something...else? Jesus, no pleasing some people. Well, if you insist, there's always the Gratia, which is very pretty, but I wouldn't regard it as a step up from the Nexus One; that would be the job of the HD, which will be the flagship HTC Android phone until next year, especially as HTC are doing a bit of a push on WP7 at the moment. So if you don't want the HD, you're shit out of luck.

Dys - probably worth waiting for android 3.0 phones. None of the current crop are a significant step up from the nexus / desire.

Had a go of a friends Samsung Omnia 7 Windows phone today and i have to say it's pretty slick love the interface and XBL is a pretty neat feature as is Zune on the phone.

Hope MS keep up the work on it as i would probably get one if the apps took off more.

not sure which i like best of the win 7 phones, the hd7 does look the best all round option (heard the battery is poor though) omnia has sexy screen (not sure on battery life though, and either its a lil ugly or pics dont do it justic) or there is the mozart, looks very nice and generall gets solid reviews.

From what ive read the HTC 7 takes a good while longer to load games up then the Samsung which is a very quick phone seems HTC put some lower clock memory in the HD 7.

Out of the HTC phonws i quite like Trophy.

see ive read the trophy is the worst of the htc phones, slowest of the lot and the screen isnt as responsive.

thoughts on the samsung tab? The tarriffs I've seen so far are worse than the iphone one's, and it's not samsung holding the networks to ransom, it's their own greed.

The samsung tab costs are ridiculous, although it looks a good piece of kit. I'm waiting for the new year as I want:

1) A 10" tablet
2) Android marketplace support (3.0 probably)
3) Cheaper prices

I'm mulling it over. I was hoping to get one in a staff offer we have running at work, but that's no go as the tab has been specifically excluded. Best deals I've seen are on 3 at the moment.

NB. I don't want a 10" tablet (I have a perfectly good netbook), the Tab's form factor is absolutely perfect for me; big enough for decent video when I'm commuting, spot on e-reader size, and just right for video Skype (so my Mum can see her granddaughter without me dragging her in front of the desktop), and small enough to carry easily. I've actually had a go with the Tab and an iPad, and it was no contest for me, but the price is a big issue. According to Samsung its also definitely going to get Android 3 when it comes out as that's the "Android for tablets" OS.

This. WinMo 5 and 6 were absolutely dire, it's going to take some spectacular work from MS to undo all the hurt they caused.

I never owned a Windows phone so i am a bit on the fence but from what i've read this afternoon people seem to like it.

Not sure about Zune on it though i take it just like iTunes and you can download music etc to your phone?

anyone seen any good deals around for desire HD's? Looking to leave o2 now, I can't get reception in my home or work anymore and it's pissing me right off.

Got a very good contract with o2, but it looks like I'll have to spend a bit more to get some bloody signal.

The reason me and my gf left O2 signal went from bad to worse horrible network would never go back.

Don't get me wrong, it's fine everywhere else. I get signal in places no one else does on other networks; but it's affecting my work not having a signal where I need it most.

Got decent broadband there? You could ask them for a picocell, not sure if they are doing this yet but other networks are.

Sorry, but I don't allow the words "good, deal" and "24 months" in the same sentence. That's a bloody long time to be tied in.

Only if you suffer from the overwhelming desire to change your handset every few months. There's definitely an argument to say a Desire HD at only 25 quid a month is probably all the phone you need for a couple of years. (After Gingerbread is released I expect the pace of Android handset releases to slow down anyway). Most people don't use 80% of their smartphone's functionality as it is, so the new handset treadmill is just a fashion thing.

2 years is a very long time in the technology market....things move on a great deal in that time.

I like new technology so me getting a new handset isn't to do with fashion it's about getting my hands on a new gadget... If it was to do with fashion I would have a range of handsets not just one!

"Getting your hands on a new gadget" is fashion, you've been targeted by marketing people as an early adopter and influencer. People like you get more handsets than the mass market, show it to your friends, stimulate broader usage. I love the way geeks think they're immune to marketing (and fashion).

The reality is you don't need a new phone every six or even 12 months, even if "things move on a great deal in that time", your actual day to day requirements of your phone don't move on. Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for new technology as well, but I'm also aware of how the market is manipulating me to keep the cycle going; buying consumer durables for rational (need, not want) reasons would be a total disaster for the industry.

I'm not on about the handset tie in Gaff, more the tie in to one network and a price plan that can't always be changed for the better.

I'd have been happier with 12 month contracts and paying more towards the handset, but networks don't seem to think that would sell.
