I have been looking at the jesus phone and the Hero. How is the Hero? I know a few people here have had one for a while. Is there an improvement in the number of killer aps?

What other phones are worth looking at? My contract ends before xmas and was wondering what's good atm :)

Bit disappointed with aps so far, but the phone itself is lovely. I'd wait and see what the palm pre is like before committing on either.

Had a play with the Hero in the shop today, felt very slick I liked it. My Dad had an N97 few weeks back which I helped set up for him, what a bag of shite they are, so frustrating to use. The 10mins I had on the Hero felt great, just the aps and if I would feel I was missing out on..the other phone.

Palm pre, I will have look :)

I've seen a few vids of the Pre in action and I gotta say I'm *far* from impressed. Check out some youtube vids and see for yourself.

Also, Android 2.0 is out soon and Hero will be getting it and it looks absolutely lovely. Yet another reason to consider it.

I have the Hero and think it's lovely, although there are newer phones coming out Droid, Dext etc they are too fat for me. The Hero tends to need it's firmware updated if you buy it, the apps are still a bit sparse but then that will change as Android becomes more and more popular. HTC have said the will be updating Hero for Android 2.0 as soon as they transfer HTC sense over to it. I.E sometime in the new year...

On the pre, I had one mate who returned it as he hated it... but that's all I know of it.

I installed a sort of 6.5 on one of my old WinMo phones and yeah, it's absolutely atrocious. What I find amusing is that they're releasing it as a competitor to the iPhone and Android phones but it's dire.

There are some really nice looking android phones coming out over the next 6 months or so.
I dont think I could go back to a non-android phone now I've used an android one.

What apps are you really going to use?

If you're keen on an Android phone then I think there's plenty of sufficient apps for your needs. You're obviously not going to get as many games as the iPhone, as all the major games developers have suddenly flocked there. For apps though, I'm sure the Android marketplace has all you need, unless you're after a specific application.

I love my Hero, it's not perfect but I think Android has a decent future as more features get added.

Got an Omnia 2 for now, but will switch if a similar android phone comes out. Was looking at the galaxy, but it's impossible to get off air.

If I recall the Galaxy has some iffy reviews. Any reason you're not interested in the hero?

As with all HTC's shite camera, no flash (a torch doesn't count) and sub-par build quality.

Not sure about the subpar build quality but yeah, the camera is awful.

They may have fixed it recently, but all HTC's I've seen in the past were not exactly well built!

I've always found the software is the shittest thing with HTC, my HTC Tornado was/is very good with the exception of the little nipple joystick. My TyTn and Touch Dual are both pretty solid (again, *awful* software).

I think the Hero is supposed to be quite well made, but time will tell.

Yeah, android should fix the HTC software issues, but the windows mobile story today makes me question their android support in the future!

What story is that?

HTC have already committed to releasing Android 2.0 on the Hero so hopefully that bodes well for continued support.

I have had a Palm Pre a Hero and a HD2 and for our use (Website Stock System, Corporate Email) the HD2 is the best of the 3 and i would pick the Hero over the Palm Pre. I sat with a HD2 in the pub with a hero user and a iphone user and they both slagged the WinMo off as being not good but imo its as good as any other when you get used to it.

Well with my limited experience of having a winmo phone (The SE Xperia) I will never get another one ever again! It's been the worst phone operating system I have come across.

I guess it's a case of each to their own, I shall stay well away from winmo personally. Orange launch the Iphone in the next 2weeks, will be interesting to see what price wars we have.

Are we really going to see competitive iPhone plans between the providers? Or is this just going to be the same inflated prices for both networks, giving users the feeling that they've now got a choice whilst keeping the prices as high as possible?

Well I hope so and aint T-mobile joining in after Christmas?

My main gripe is the 24month contracts I can see why people spend the cash and go payg and then go o2 simplicity or so. Also if you upgrade early, that period of time gets put on the other end of the contract, something I got caught out on this time by 3months.
