Base models are wifi only. I'm also not sure, after recent conversations, that many people realise you can't make phonecalls on them....that even before how silly it would look.

A colleague at work who's a long standing happy Apply hacker mentioned that the iPad can be cracked for phonecalls, as stupid as it looks. The only thing lacking apparently a microphone but a plugin can take care of that.

But really, other than to prove it can be done, why bother. I haven't tried to confirm whether it can be done or not.

Cue Dom Jolly :D

Now in the UK!

This line said it all for me:
"The exhausted but “elated” performing arts student"

Where does a 17 year old get that kinda cash from anyway :/

Edit: Just saw the tag for this thread hehe

Think of all the beer you could buy instead of an ipad!

Yeah I wouldn't have a DSLR if it wasn't for student loan.

I did screw myself over getting it, but fuck it. :D

Tescos, Asda and sainsburys allow people to live on almost nothing.

Its awesome :p

9p noodles, 29p beans, £1 and a bit for some apples, massive bag of potatoes for very little, cheap as chips pasta.

And ofc, cheap beer :p

Damn you milou, I respected Stephen Fry until I read that:

Amongst the crowds Stephen Fry who, despite already owning an iPad, said he came to the launch anyway.
“I'm here purely for the pleasure of coming to see it,” he said.
“It's an event, it's a cultural launch. For me it's the sheer pleasure of it. With the iPad it's about the new size, it's the speed and the flow of it. It's a new order of pleasant. It's like holding a webpage in your hand.”

What a cock.

All I can say is I have an Ipad and I have a 3g one on order too. Flame away, I can't be bothered to respond, I don't have a keyboard.

What a cock.

Did you watch his programme about his depression? He's a manic shopper and buys everything, in particular gadgets.

He does love Apple though, the FAG.

Played with an iPad today.

For what it was, I loved it. Shiny, trendy, cool and it worked very well. Clearly, it has a vast amount of shortcomings, but I doubt Apple fans or the computer illiterate will care.

I think regular folk will care after the novelty wears off. The fact that it's heavy, too bright to use as an e-reader, not easy to grip well/balance and feels fragile.

Deffo nath, sheer novelty factor is what will sell it. I could see it lying around in my bach pad where I could pick it up all ponce-like and read the news, browse my photographs, look at webpages and check Facebook.

yeah i've toyed with one myself a few weeks ago, and its ok for what it can do. but considering all the obvious things that it can't do i wouldn't want one even if they paid me for one...

and then ofc its the size of it, small enough to carry around but way to big to do so comfortably....

it will be a permanent pain in the ass always having to carry it around in a bag rather then in your pocket.

Thought the advert for it, with the guy clutching it on the back of a motorbike was a little silly. Anyone who's held an i-Phone will know what slippery buggers they can be --- no way somebody would be holding the i-Pad like that on the back of a motorbike.

I instantly took a dislike to the advert, not sure what it was, but all the images and the way the guy talked really got on my nerves.

I'd agree that iPads are complete bullshit but manbags just make sense! They are practical where the iPad is completely impractical.
