It looks pretty, so it will appeal to people on that basis. Also people that buy stuff cos it looks pretty don't generally care about technical specs.

Played around with a work mates iPad today. It's basically a giant iphone. I can see it being good for watching TV show while on the train in high def, but apart from that, it felt just like another Apple accessory.

i liked the iphone, its size is compensated by its SPEED of use, the ipad however is far too large and screams STEAL ME

Could see it being useful if you're sat at home on the couch and want to just look up a website quickly without having to wait however long for a netbook to boot.

Although paying a premium for that doesn't seem entirely sane, meh.

I like my iphone, I wouldn't like it 5 times it's current size, but still doing mostly the same. Don't really see the ipad taking off and "redefining" the market, more like just occupying a little corner of fanboys or niche users.
Besides, iphone os 4 has just been announced, and it's bringing a lot of the ipad features to the iphone, such as the ebook store and reader, bluetooth keyboard support and such, and it's adding multi-tasking. Makes the ipad even less desirable I'd say, from my own view anyway.

Hmm it has its uses, we are thinking of getting one for Mum since she has trouble finding the on switch on a poota. I think for non-tec people who just want to email and look up crap on the web it will be really good (if a little overpriced).

I have a couple of mates who have had a play with them. They didn't have a good thing to say about it. It doesn't do anything well, and there's so many things that it can't do at all. One of them is what I would describe as an apple fanboi too.

Except email isnt properly integrated into the rest of the OS and other apps - and who wants to browse without flash?

At least it will now multitask since iPhone OS 4.0 can now multitask.

That's nearly as revolutionary as the two buttoned mouse.

I think it's a disgrace it's taken this long, but at least it has finally arrived.

There's an API that allows certain things to carry on in the background, that's it. It's not multitasking.

what Mr Cow said. it's logical that the apple will want to protect core functionality of (primarily) phone application. if they're going to rock the pad, they're going to have to unlock full mt which will mean a code fork. it won't be the same thing after that.

The only thing I've seen so far for the iPad that tweaked my interest was a virtual music keyboard and a drum machine interface. They are pretty cool. They don't really justify it though. I'd still rather wait and get something decent.
