That is ridiculously cheap - especially at that spec. It's better specced than the galaxy pad and the ipad, which are the two benchmarks. And both of which are circa £500.

Let us know what it is like once you finally get it.

I've had it two weeks now (pre-ordered it in late sept)

It's great, can't fault it at all, 2.2 os (early pre-orders had 2.1), responsive screen, decent html5 support in the browser, I havent tried out the new android version of firefox on it yet
I'm watching movies, reading comics, playing games, surfing, videocalling and debugging a crappy iphone/android game i'm writing in my spare time with corona on it
good battery life, lighter than my mates iPad, but with a bigger screen and better specs

the os can be upgraded later when 3.0 arrives, which will be better suited to tablets
or even wiped if you wanna instal angstrom linux on it

the default android market place didn't come with it as standard, archos have ther own applib store where apps must be built with tablet screens in mind, but i simply installed the google market apk onto teh tablet so I can shop in both

The only problem is getting it outta my wife's hands

that Archos does look nice...but I think we're only at the start of the pad market - I think I'll wait a few years and then get one. ATM just don't have a need for one

nice...but might as well buy a thin laptop otherise you still gotta carry the keyboard bit around with you

yah, but it doesent take much more space then the ipad itself.. compared to the hassle of draging along a laptop with a powerchord and a mouse etc etc. And the weight of a laptop.. I know the laptop is only 3-5 kgs, but the iPad is ALOT lighter, and you can feel it when you drag it around from and to school\work:)

I think lamp should have said netbook, not laptop. I'd much rather have a win7 or linux netbook than any of the pad offerings so far. Same screen size, slightly more weight, much more ability, vastly so.

I've just bought a 10 inch Android tablet off ebay, it's a Chinese cheapfest for 160 quid, but comes with GPS.
Overall it's a piss poor experience compared to my 10 inch netbook and suffers from that ridiculous problem early windows mobile had, you can't close the freakin apps, so you're always low on memory and always mashing back and home buttons to get anywhere, it's very slow, but probably due to it's 160 quid pricetag.
Also Android can't do adhoc wifi, so it won't connect to my phone using 3g-wifi.
But for the price it can run Google maps OK and runs Viewranger in fullscreen and a very swish cracked version of Sygic 3d satnav, which is just superb on the 10 inch screen.
Wait for a Windows tablet, Android is pants and Ipads are, well just MACS.

lol, i may have exaggerated that:p my laptop weighs 2.8kg, and with the charger its 3kg:p but still, compared to the iPads 0.68 kg it makes a difference:p and its such a drag to pull out the mouse\powerconnecrtor etc etc, and then move to another classroom in 2 hrs again...
