Comedy

Before I leave the forums for the night I thought I'd start a semi-good thread.

What are your favourite comedy shows of all time ? I just started watching the b33r episode of Blackadder II on UK Gold and realised that was one of my faves.

Baldrick: "But my lord, I've been in your family since 1532."

Edmond: "So has syphillis now get out !"

:D

I think my all-time fave would be Steptoe and Son :)

It may also be worth mentioning those we think are shite. Personally I abhor Red Dwarf. And The Young Ones is dreadfully unfunny nowadays :(

Most of Monty Python is crap nowadays. Only a couple of sketches per show seem funny. Doesn't all age very well I'm afraid.

The Paul Merton Show. I don't know anyone in the entire world who has seen or heard of it. Listen to me: 12:05am, the Paramount Comedy Channel. It's just so funny. Other ones i like are The Fast Show, A Bit Of Fry and Laurie, Shooting Stars, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Red Dwarf and Bottom. Hilarious.

I'm too giggly for a sensible answer. :D

I was honoured enough to spend two hours in #wij chatting with Louster about comedy in all its forms, amongst other things. We decided (as far as I remember) that Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan were perhaps the funniest. He favoured Woody Allen, though for specific moments, not general career.

My favourite comedy show would have to be Blackadder Goes Forth for sheer class, followed by A Bit of Fry and Laurie. I wub Hugh.

Cannot stand Goodness Gracious Me. Have no idea how that can be classed as comedy and I'm sure it was only commissioned to fulfill the BBC's 'ethnic quota'

I've seen all the Paul Merton shows (weird 'coughing' theme tune) but don't rate them much. :/

Ooh. Fry and Laurie was great :)

"Now take Burwhale the Avenger and go forth to Saffron Walden !"

Paul Merton show - I only really remember the sketch where he was an alien and made a magazine rack :D

Goodness Gracious me is quite funny. Skipinda the Punjabi kangaroo scored high on the laugh o metre.

The Office is also brilliant.

I can't decide on a favourite comedy of all time, because most of the good ones have ups and downs in quality.

The multi-award winning show Coupling is a high point in recent comedy, with great ideas and executions. Spin City also has some great episodes, though it started to go down hill, and then Parkinsons-Back-to-the-future guy Michael Fox left, though I've not seen the ones without him.

Much of Big Train also lacks any real punchline, and leaves me wondering why the sketches that don't really amuse anyone were put in - they've always been a mediocre comedy team.

I ought to point out that the individuals are quite funny though, especially the guy from Spaced (Simon Peg?) - that was very good.

Teh End!1

Trigger Happy TV, The eleven oclock show (iain lee / daisy donovon era), Shooting stars, Never mind the buzzcocks, and probably another three dozen things I can't think of at the moment.

Personally, I find Big Train impossible to even raise a fake smile at, just not me.

Blackadder Goes Forth was one of the funniest comedies I ever had the delight of watching. I did also enjoy the earlier series', but not quite as much.

In the more recent times, I found 2DTV, a cartoon based political satire, side splittingly funny. Current affairs approached from a superb satirical angle, beautifully executed. I hope ITV1 decide to take it on permamently.

I used to watch that. I thought it was great comedy. The high point for me though was that bird in it. You know the one I mean. She is SOOOO fine.

I used to love Game On too. I even bought a BBC video of it. EEK! Samantha Janus is pretty good looking...not a stunner but I prolly wouldn't chuck her out of bed if she farted.
The characters grew up in Herne Bay. The same place I'm from! :)

And I can sort of see why people are slagging off Big Train. It's got some red hot moments and some that are decidedly luke warm. The Tin Man sketch the other week was a moment of pure genious. Just ask Damini she was in creases. heh.

As for my own personal faves....erm...
I suppose Game on Is pretty high up there. Men behaving badly was pure class.

I'm amazed no one has mentioned The Office yet. No one find that funny?

Also there's some late night show on Channel 4 I think called "Black Books". It's got this Iriash comedian in it that sounds like he's drunk all the time and that weird sci-fi comedian with the goatee and the mullet. Very funny. :)

The Office was superb. The only comedy I've truly loved in years. Can't wait for the next series.

Blackadder II, Bottom and no-one has mentioned Filthy Rich and Cat Flap, just about anything with Rik and Ade (exept Hotel Paradiso).

More recently though, the Office was well cool, that guy who kept ringing the managers assistant and just saying "Twat" down the phone. Also the new American medical one Scrubs is good to.

Worst IMO, Monty Python series (Films were good though) and Red Dwarf.
