For those who don't know;

At 3:06PM on April 15th 1989, a football match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, played at Sheffield Wednesday's Hillborough Stadium, was called off due to overcrowding in the Leppings Lane end of the stadium. In the crush 96 people were killed.

I shaln't go into exactly what happened, google it if you're interested, but at 3:06 spare a thought for those who lost their lives, and their friends and families.

Also, you should all boycott The Sun for their appauling bullshit headlines after the disaster..

On the Tuesday following the disaster, Kelvin MacKenzie, then editor of The Sun, a British tabloid newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch, used the front page headline, THE TRUTH, in huge letters. Under that were three smaller headlines: 'Some fans picked pockets of victims'; 'Some fans urinated on the brave cops'; 'Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life'.

The story accompanying this work of fiction claimed that 'drunken Liverpool fans viciously attacked rescue workers as they tried to revive victims' and 'police officers, firemen and ambulance crew were punched, kicked and urinated upon'. A quote, 'attributed' to an unnamed policeman, claimed that a dead girl had been abused and that Liverpool fans 'were openly urinating on us and the bodies of the dead'.............

Following the Sun's report, that newspaper was boycotted by most newsagents in Liverpool, with many refusing to stock the tabloid and large numbers of readers cancelling orders and even refusing to buy from shops which did stock the newspaper. More than a decade after the Hillsborough disaster, there are still many independent newsagents in Liverpool which do not stock The Sun.

I was at the game with my uncle & cousin, I was only 9 at the time, luckly we where in the upper stand and so not part of the crush, sympathies to anyone that lost someone, this may seem light hearted but I'm glad I don't have a very good memory I don't really remember that much about it.

I'm from Hillsborough. Family house is 2 mins away from the SWFC ground.

Yep it was tough, spare a thought for the trauma some of the cops went through too.

Unfortunately I've been "boycotting" all newspapers since before Hillsborough, for general bullshit really.

I remember this happening on the news, I also remember Heysel Stadium where a similar thing happened. Tragically it was hooliganism through the 1980s that caused clubs to put up the metal fences around the pitch, and thus lead to Hillsborough, as the fans were trapped and crushed by them.

I remember watching the reconstruction of it on TV, with Ricky Tomlinson. Was a sad story. I do recall going into Liverpool sometime last year, and all the walls where plastered with the "Boycott the Sun" posters. Tha was the first i knew about the sun being against the liverpool fans.

also seen that bradford fire while on a first aid course.. that was sad too :(

The real shame was that most of the people killed were legitimate ticket holding fans, whilst the reason they were killed was the overwhelming numbers of ticketless 'fans' arriving late and attempting to force their way in.

Flame away.
