Well ignored again, have another facepalm.

What am I ignoring?

It's not some "buzz" after exercise I get. I've never got that. It's the increased mobility for someone who used to really struggle and all the other benefits I've already listed...

Scouse, I really think you shouldn't drink alcohol, it's really bad for your health, and it'll cause you to die young, it's really selfish of you too, because your health could put a strain on the NHS.

This is a big part of it for me. I hate seeing friends left out of fun activities because they aren't fit enough.

Yup. It's heartbreaking for me to see my mum getting left out of all the stuff she used to enjoy with her friends simply because they've kept themselves active and she doesn't.

What's fun for one isn't for another. I hate beach holidays but others love them doesn't mean I need to go on them because my mate thinks it's fun.

That's not the scenario we're talking about tho. We're talking about people with similar interests and similar holidays that always had fun together.

For example - ten years ago they all went on holiday to Australia together. They had a great time, but it was brought up then that my mum was struggling physically to go and see some of the things that they all wanted to see - like Ayres Rock.

Then my brother's wedding in Sydney four years ago. We all wanted to walk around Sydney and have nice days out - about fifteen of the family went over - but my mum had regressed to the point that a few hours gentle stroll around Sydney was a big problem for her.

We were there for a couple of weeks tho, and with badgering from the family by the end of the holiday she'd massively improved. But she refused to keep it up.

Now? She moans that the family doesn't spend any time with her - that her friends are going on holiday without her - but it's her own fault. She's not prepared to put the effort in so she can do the things that everyone takes for granted. If she was disabled through injury she'd find no end of people willing to push her in a wheelchair all over the place. But she's disabled through stupidity and laziness.

@DaGaffer - if genuine concern for the above makes me a sanctamonious cunt then fine. But I think you can see from this thread that I'm actually trying to get people to think about this sort of thing - not going "look at me, aren't I great!"...

Edit:
Yeah you may not like mountain climbing or whatever, but eventually you'll be like Scouse's Mum and even walking/touring will be too much of a stretch.

Yep. That's why I posted the half an hour a day stuff - and the NHS minimum guidelines - in the hope that some people would read them and go "do I even do the minimum?"

But I guess that's really fucking santamonious, reposting government guidelines and the like ;)

Edit edit:

I take steps to ensure I'm not an alcoholic. Such as no drinking in the week and/or only drinking on social occasions. If I was opening a bottle of wine a night, or eating lardy food every night, I'd be abusing myself, but I'm not...

Let's say i do 2.5h cardio + 2h weights. / week.
Let's say i did it since i was 15.
Let's say i should die at 75(without any effort).
That's 60 years of exersizzle.

That's 14040 hours of work.

Since we waste 8h/day on sleeping, let's divide that with 16h and see how many days of our free time is used on it;

877.5 days of pure exersizzle. For a possible gain in extra years. I prefer to use those over two years of free time in my prime years ;)

EDIT: Not to mention i'd rather use those 877 days to train my mind. Rather be in a wheelchair with my wits, then a fit loonie.

You forgot something important.

Monthly spend on gym : ~£40 per month or ~£40,000 over 60 years, assuming average interest of about 3.5% and 2.5% inflation.
Yearly spend on running shoes and clothes: ~£100 or £8,000.
Money spent on eating healthy instead of whatever you want: ~£20 extra a week? So around £85,000 after 60 years.

Now we use the HCHM (High Class Hooker Metric). I'd need input from a leading market analyst but I'd say that gets you about 1,400 hours, or a visit every other day for the last 8 years or so of your life.

Sucks to be you.
Thanks for that. I would hate you life being a self righteous cunt that thanks he is better than everyone else because he rides a bike is not my idea of a good time. Of course if that is a snap judgement based on the little I know about you I am very sorry!

At least you'd be able to get it up and do her doggy, 'cause your knees still work :)

Meh, you try to get a positive discussion going. I didn't think that first post would start off this shitstorm. Certainly not with the socrates quote, the NHS guidelines and the explicit reference to the title being tongue-in-cheek...

Look, as long as it doesn't hurt others, do what you want to do. I've been cycling regularly (on and off) since I was 18, I've always loved it. Lately, I've found myself loving it a whole lot more. I don't think I preach to anyone, rather, I state the obvious - cycling is good for you, it burns fat and saves you money. Cars burn money and make you fat. And they stink, and they make a lot of noise. And they kill a lot of people.

I think people may not know that my current car is a 3.3 V6 petrol hybrid. The one before that, a 4.0 V8 LPG. The one before that, a 3.0 turbodiesel. Before that, a 4.0 N/A V8 TVR. And that isn't all of them. I've never had a car with what could be considered a small engine; I like driving cars. I have to drive them, so I might as well have nice ones. I want to drive them safely and considerately, which is why in 2005 I took advanced driving lessons.

But I tell you now, if I didn't need a car for work, I'd almost certainly not own one. That's my choice. I'm not going to criticise anyone for theirs, but I have absolutely no time for wankers like Raven, who seem to think it's acceptable to blame the victims of inconsiderate and downright dangerous driving like this:

http://www.mancunianmatters.co.uk/c...-killed-pedestrian-crossing-after-30mph-sign-

There's a remarkable degree of intolerance and hatred from people confronted by anyone doing something they have little to no experience of. I don't think cyclists suffer from this more than anyone engaged in any other activity, but when I encounter it on a forum I've been a member of for almost as long as I've been on the internet, I'm not going to keep my mouth shut.

I'll just leave this Scouse;

I'm interested in your personal reasons for the lack of action to something that other humans tell you can be life-transformative."

Because i enjoy what i enjoy, not what others tell me to. Tried exersice, wasn't for me, enjoy other things more.

That's the why and question all wrapped up. If you want to talk about some other non-original topic, feel free to state it.

The driver sounds like an idiot saying he though it was a 50 if you cant see a speed limit sign you should make an assumption based on the road and no road with public footpaths should be 60 or 70 so that means the limit is 30 - 40 he just sounds like a cunt making excuses. But it also sounds like she just crossed on a red light as if he had gone through a red then that would have been dangerous driving?

As she had dismounted her bike though she sounds like a decent cyclist though.

This is what I think too. Cyclists are absolutely laid into all the time. I blame the tabloids for whipping up a storm and everyone following it, but it immediately puts conversations in a confrontational mindsets.

This isn't supposed to be a thread about cycling - but a couple of forum members have used it like that because they can't get over their ridiculous anger.

Hey i can generalise too you murdering cyclist you!

And that happens twice a year in the UK. But 2500 times a year from car drivers...

You're not very bright are you?

I blame the cyclist when he hangs out in a wagons blind spot. they have those stickers on the back that say "if you cant see my mirrors I cant see you" for a reason. Its not because they think they own the road its because by design and function, 40 ton trucks have large blind spots.

Cyclists need to learn that while they have every right to be on the road, they absolutely have to understand that they aren't invincible and truck drivers are not psychic. They also need to realise that traffic lights and signage also apply to them. Pulling out onto a roundabout while a massive truck is going round it or undertaking on a normal two way road really isn't the best idea in the world.

I have no sympathy for people who kill themselves in this way, I have every sympathy for the poor fucking driver that had absolutely no way to avoid the accident.

Get your facts straight tom, you sound more like a stupid cunt every post.

and people make fun of Tohtoris english, i honestly did not have a clue what this post meant :p

I cycle regularly but its an A-B thing for me i dont really get exercise purely for the point of exercise but i love team sports and participate in a few (with more enthusiasm than skill i must admit)

I dont like other cyclists much mainly because i am not the most gifted cyclist (but hey same amount of tour de france wins and one more testicle than lance armstrong) and they tend to be lunatics who lack good sense and will overtake me and my slowpoke style with no care for cars, oncoming cyclists or pedestrians, luckily i barely have to cycle on any roads, thank the socialist powers that be for bike paths in good ol' scandinavia ;)

Yep. So do Tom and I.

But you also rant against cyclists in general - tarring us all with the same brush. You also don't seem to allow for honest mistakes - car drivers make mistakes, so do cyclists, so do fucking pedestrians.

But be honest - with you, it's all about the biker-hate...

Edit: and LOL:
same amount of tour de france wins and one more testicle than lance armstrong

:D

Plus. Where the fuck is @MYstIC G to tell this thread to get back on-topic. It's about lifelong physical improvement, remember? :(

I am just generally shit at reading things back to make sure what I had in my head has appeared in words.

It was supposed to convey my general hatred of Tom and his shiity comments and pompous attitude towards people who do not bow down to his cycling master race. I should not have posted it as it adds nothing and I should just go back to ignoring comments that I don't like.

I think you will find Tom split his vagina when I said it could possibly be the cyclists fault...

I couldn't give a fuck about cyclists, I tend to laugh at them when its raining but other than that, meh.

People of limited intelligence however boil my piss, when they ruin someones life by trying to "sneak" past them on their bike, they do so a little bit more.

Clarification please. Do you mean in stationary traffic?

You do know that you're not supposed to "queue" like other motor vehicles...

I suspect you're sat in your car waiting at traffic lights with cyclists going past without a care in the world, raging internally at them. I get shit all the time from motorists as I go past them into the "cycle box" at the front of traffic lights.

They sometimes even get the finger, if I'm in a bad mood.

No I mean trundling along on the inside (as in next to the pavement) past slow moving heavy goods vehicles. It just isn't a very clever thing to do. If you are going to pass a slow moving HGV do it on the drivers side.

Or as my original point said before Tom had his period. Use the fucking cycle paths that (even at 15mph) will get you to your location faster because they are a giant short cut that go through the centre of the estate. They even send a road sweeper down the fucking things once a week, they are rigid for cycling on the estate.

I hate it when you are waiting and indicating to turn left and a cycle terrorist comes screaming down you left hand side and decides to slap your roof so you don't run them over because lord knows they can't stop and let you go!

I also hate motorcyclist, tractors and people who drive too close behind me or massively under the speed limit. I am equal opportunity.

I don't meet any traffic lights on my way to work. I do on the way home but a cyclist would have to be particularly retarded to play with the traffic of junction 15 on the M1, I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see one though...

I don't believe it's as big a problem as people make out. I used to drive about 60,000 miles a year and yet I've had that sort of dick cyclist problem a handful of times.

Dick car drivers? Every single journey...
