I think I'll grab Professional for the XP Mode, hopefully that'll help get Final Fantasy 7 running.

Did the XP mode come with the RC too and if so, did anyone try it with oldé games?

Yes, have tried with a couple of older games and it works absolutely fine - in fact, solved a couple of issues I had with plain XP where the games ran too quickly.
Got myself 2 copies, 1 Home Premium and 1 Professional, and have a preorder upgrade free with my laptop.

I dont suppose anyone knows what's involved in the OEM upgrades? - assuming personally that they are also full versions - but are they licensed and activated separately?

Here's a silly question - generally speaking with windows what's the actual difference between retail and OEM? I know you need to buy OEM with hardware and that it's linked to that hardware configuration and can't be used on any others, but doesn't the retail have the same restrictions minus the hardware purchase requirement?

oem usually means they dont like giving out new activation codes when / if you transfer to new hardware

So with retail editions you can transfer the activation to a new machine?

Oem tied to one machine (generally), Retail can install again on any machine.

MSDN & TechNet Subscribers: Subscribers will be able to download the final version of Windows 7 a few weeks after we announce RTM.

Looking good i do not think i will bother with a RTM build if i can get Full Release in "a few" Weeks.

You are also slightly restricted with OEM if you upgrade components as well...at some point it thinks you have a new PC...

I think also you can only install OEM a certain number of times on the same machine...but I'm not certain about that

Oh noes we'll have to spend 2mins downloading it for free now :<

Yes the problem is if you are a bit silly and forget to download it to a USB drive or something BEFORE you install Windows 7 you won't have a browser to download it...
