I want the Ultimate Edition!
But I guess at that price I can settle for the professional version...

I like the fact that they're E for European editions.
That means no IE. :)

I've read it will simply not be installed by default but will be selectable via "Add/Remove Windows Components" in the control panel.

It'll be the hot-coffee mod scandal all over again!

Incidentally, I'm sure I read some fine print that suggested this pre-order deal was for those with a legitimate copy of XP or Vista already. I have, uh.. lets say Ubuntu.. on my system. Has anyone spotted this clause or am I imagining it?

Yes, it says to be eligible for the offer you need to be running XP or Vista in the FAQ

Seems that way, not sure if I can be bothered with the whole wipe and reinstall everything again though. Seems a little extreme but there's probably a reason for it :( but hey at that price what the hell :)

Got 2x Pro so far, was planning to get 1x Home prem but Ebuyer is already outta stock ;-/ 80quid though for pro + free delivery!

Might get the home from Amazon, that should cover all the shitty vista machines in my house.

Not according to the footnote on microsofts website:

mportant: The E editions of Windows 7 do not contain an Internet browser. Please get a browser from Microsoft or a third party and have it on a CD/DVD or another device so it's ready to install after the Windows 7 installation is complete.

Ebuyer seem to be sold out now, so went with amazon, paying the extra £9. Not seeing home premium on sale at amazon yet though, and I'd like a copy of that for my netbook.

Yeah, it just went on sale, and I've preordered a copy.

Told a few mates as £45 for what is basically a full retail copy of Windows 7 HP is a bit of a bargain! May get a second one, as I'm sure it could be sold on at a profit!

Ordered Home Premium from Play. Still see no point in Professional.

I've possibly overlooked that but I don't run anything that I believe requires XP.

Hmm, the FAQ does indeed say that you need a legit version of XP or Vista in order to be eligible. Now I have.... Ubuntu why not, on my desktop where I want to install 7 but a full legit version of Vista on my laptop. Does anyone know if this is going to be an issue? These don't appear to be upgrade discs, just full standard retail editions.

From Amazon

3. Is this a full product or an upgrade from a previous version of Windows?

At present in the EU, all versions of Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate) are the full product. This means that to install Windows 7, you do not need any previous version of Windows installed on your computer.

Since only the full product is available, please note that when you install the E edition of Windows 7, you'll need to do a custom (clean) installation. That means you'll need to back up all of your files and settings, install the operating system, then re-install your files, settings and programs. Be sure to check out Amazon’s great selection of external storage devices in our electronics store that will assist you in this process.

We only get the full version in Europe....

Indeed, which is why I'm wondering if activation requires your system to have had previously activated XP or Vista.
