I had to force windows 10 upgrades on both of my PC's. None of the Automatic updates worked.

Well I let it tell me when it was ready instead of forcing the issue. Install went smoothly, was told I needed new graphics driver which works fine. Only very minor issue was I had to choose my speaker output options as Windows had set this to null. As previously mentioned task bar on a second screen is an improvement. My setup is all AMD btw.
Only thing I don't like are the windows themselves, too much white in the title bar. Can't find an option as yet to alter the title bar colour/transparency, any ideas?

Right click on the desktop > personalise, lots of colour settings there

I had a problem a while ago where pictures viewed in picture viewer had a vanilla background, but it also tainted the picture you were viewing with a yellowish tint.

When I upgraded it reverted back to that again, I had to search for a post on here in the tech thread, as I remembered someone pointing me in the right direction to get it sorted

Oh and @~Yuckfou~ I found this for you

I found this while looking for something to do with settings.

Create a new folder on your desktop--or anywhere you'd like--and name it: Settings.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

It creates a folder with around 270 different setting options. Applies to most Windows versions.

Yeah, you can do that with it being any name. Lifehacker are calling it "God Mode" to try and ramp up their hits...

I think the main annoyance I've found so far with Windows 10 is the default app behaviour. They've stopped programs from being able to set themselves as default, even with admin rights, instead displaying a so-helpful dialogue box, instructing you to change it yourself in settings. When you do so, you can either change everything in a group (audio, video etc) to one program or another, but not specific ones, only ones that Microsoft has marked as available, or you can set each file extension manually. Really annoying... Oh, and Media Player Classic isn't in Microsoft's approved list for video playback, so it's manual settings for each file extension if you want to use that.

Installed VLC for video, used it in Win 7, does everything better than anything else I have found. and works great in Win 10.

When you installed W10 it asked you if you wanted to change defaults to those pieces of shit, I guess you clicked express install or didn't realise you could untick.

Also MPC-HC is by far the best.
I was getting noticeable artifacting/weird colouration in vlc in some situations and havn't had it once so far with MPC-HC.

Yeah the boss of Firefox was not happy with the defaul app situation. It is a pain in the arse to be honest, if you install something which has a "make this app your default for this kind of file" option it will be completely ignored by Windows which will tell you to jump through some hoops in settings to make the change. MPC-BE worked flawlessly as the new default video player though (well, with x264 MKVs anyway).

Try MPC-HC (or my preference, MPC-BE) with MadVR, it's the dogs bollocks.

I use MPC-BE, its perfect for me, but I had to reset it as the default again as it kept opening in WMP

I did a clean install, as windows 8 had been playing up a lot just lately, so all apps and settings went goodbye. Hence being stuck with the defaults...

I like the results madvr has, BUT practical usage is awful.
I'd use it on a HTPC or something, but its godawful for multi monitor desktop.

( Annoying flicker/fullscreen mode initialisation that is a pain in the dick and sucks if you're multi tasking ).

Don't you just right click the file you want > open with, click use another app - then pick the program you want + tick the "always open with" box?

That's basically the same as assigning one extension at a time in the settings screen. On previous versions of windows, I just ran the program for the first time, went to the program's settings and ticked all the ones I wanted to open with it in its own file extensions area, then it was done. There's still ways around it, just that windows 10 seems to have taken the quickest and least annoying option away.

Just updated. Installation went fine. Only had one minor problem with the Xbox 360 wireless driver but that's resolved now. Now I need to figure out how to get the windows 7 theme back on for the tool bar at the bottom and in the windows as I hate the black and white theme it has put on.

You can get coloured taskbar back > right click desktop>personalise> colours> scroll down > tick "show colours on task/start/etc".

I mean the transparent theme on the tool bars what I had when I installed windows 7. Can't remember the theme but it was set as default. At the moment I can only select a colour and the top of Chrome looks awful, its all white, making it hard to see.

The Start Menu is still utterly fucking stupid. I don't want stupid animated tile things doing distracting shit. Fuck off, give me the old Start Menu back.

Right click, remove.

The all apps thing is still there.

Right well installing Classic Shell has gotten rid of that shite. Now I've turned everything that I don't want "off", but it still insists I have Xbox and other shite that I'll never, ever, ever use. Anyone know how to get rid of that rubbish?

There's bound to be a way once people figure stuff out but you could try just not clicking on it...
