What do mincers do?

I'm looking to make one but not really sure what they do :D

Starting over in DAoC again, after a failed attempt last time. The idea of a mincer appeals to me but I'm not really sure what they do.

In a typical XP group what do they do?

In RvR, what is their role and are they any good?

Are they needed for ML level quests?

Also, do they solo ok for times when no groups are around? Do they benefit much from a buff bot?

Thanks,
Siden.

They Mez mobs, Tho Sorcs do it better.
They play power sound, Tho sorcs do it better.
They speed you around, No one does it better :)
They have an ablative that absorbs some damage, No one else does.

Solo, they have 2 DD's that suck more end then power.
Solo, They have not so great damage, so can take a bit to grind down a mob.

They great for checking market explorers and running for that scroll tho :)

fg rvr Mincers are great in interupting with 3 insta spells + speed spell + abl 70 song.

Stealth mincers are the most winning class in the game insta stunn + cc abilitys are insane while duoing ( ask kklas + arraudry :) )

edit: charming toa mobs for uber farming is a really sweet add ;) ( salamander ftw )

Err...my Necro would disagree with that TBH...

Thats an Abs buff, not an ablative ability.

In PvE, sorc out performs you in every way I've found for exping.
In RvR, can't comment yet, but fighting them I've noticed lots of toys they have.

:)

And just think, they used to use twice as much end!

Good overall utility, but as other posters have pointed out the only thing Minstrels do better than any other class is run fast. XP groups may overlook a Minstrel in favour of a specialist mez / power / melee class, especially if they're really looking for the optimum mix - Minstrels just don't do anything better than anyone else. Less "demanding" groups (ie the ones you join to enjoy yourself :) ) will like you because you can fill a variety of rolls. You also make a reasonbly good peeler - when the healer is getting hit you can sometimes take the aggro back.

In RvR Minstrels are good in groups - 3 insta cast spells mean you can interrupt well. Your speed is very highly sort after. Chain armour means you don't go down like a whore's drawers at the first sign of trouble (though don't think you can go toe-to-toe with a real melee class). You also have the most laughable spell in the game - AE Mez, you really don't want to know about it.

Stealth / solo Minstrels have a bunch of fun in RvR now that they can climb walls. They duo really well with Infiltrators (but with New Frontiers on the horizon this is less of a plus). Your stealth is only ever going to be average at best (unless you go low instruments / melee, which is not a popular choice).

I haven't got far in ML's, but as most of these seem to be zerg-based there isn't much reason to exclude anyone tbh. And if you go Sojourner you'll be popular for sure.

Minstrels solo OK with a pet - the changes to charm mean that if a pet resists the aggro doesn't automatically dump on you. You have to actually lose control of the pet altogether before that happens. Unfortunately that still normally means death at the higher levels.

Everyone benefits from a buffbot. Fully buffed you solo oranges at level 45+ without a pet no trouble. Unbuffed you'll last 30 secs.

i would personally have a mincer in my group over a sorcerer. A mincer can mez 2-3 mobs before they get to you with a flute, if mez resist then he just stuns and remezz, play a great bodyguard to a healer with dd+dd+stun. And he can take pretty much beating compared to a sorcerer.

I soloed mine to 30 easy, then grouped. Lvl 30+ in groups your role is mostly twisting powersong, healsong and abla while you mez and stun (if you have much power you can also dd)

Hmm. Sorc's AE mezz usually succeeds so you don't really need a backup spell (but then we got single mezz which is pretty close to 100% chance and root). As for guarding the healer and taking beating, aye, I suppose that that's definatly the sorcerer's weak point. But I suppose that that's what /intercept and stuff is for.

I disagree that you would take either class over the other, they both have about the same tools wheras the mincer has some more but can only run one at the same time. I don't think that mincers have QC? Can their 'spells' be interrupted? So in the end it doesn't really matter if you have a mincer or a sorc in your group.

However, in RvR, mincers are really nice. I heard that they're overpowered, but I suppose that that's only to certain classes, just like some classes are 'overpowered' against sorcerers (while sorcerers tend to be pure support classes (specced), pretty much everyone of the opposite realm hands our ass on a plate if we're not being watched after by our groupmates).

The one where you wave your arms above your head for 5 (count em) seconds can (and will) be. Honestly I'd trade almost anything for that spell - even a better looking epic suit would have more value.

Also flute mez is interruptable. However you can always stun something to get time to mez it.

Why twist healsong? I does bugger all, only useful if you're solo really.

Played in AC lvl 39-50 and i only had a sorc in the group twice, thats why im saying i would rather have a mincer because he can do a sorc job and a little more (stun, take a beating, play songs, etc)

Well, to answer the question - I play a mincer as I find it fun. Played a cleric then an Inf to 50 first, but now can't leave my mincer. Its the jack-of-all-trades but master-of-none but as long as you remember that then its great. Saying that I sometimes forget and try to tank....doh!

- you can mez, and lasts enough to help
- you can help fight
- you can run Power Song on longer fights
- speeeeeed!
- ablative
- if solo heal song reduces down-time
- pet
- stealth
- chain
- insta DDs etc
- demez
- forget all that, run in and die forgetting can't tank (my skill)

Yes, for most of those someone else may do it better, but we get the whole caboodle. And for other realms looking here- yes, we do all that, but most of it is second best to others, so we don't need a nerf;)

Mincer and BB play very well- buff a pet and you can solo very well.

Basically mincers are fun to play imo. Sure you can play a sorc if you want to be a great mezzer. But 2 hits and you're dead and that does matter alot in PvE. Personally I'd take a mincer over a sorc for an Ice Wiz group just for the chain armour and the insta stun. Also a good PvE mincer can twist songs well and so can twist pow regen and ablative quite easily.

As far as RvR is concerned well my mincer is lvl 43 at the mo so I've only really tried it in thidranki and I tell you it's the most fun char I've had (perhaps apart from scout). Even tho mids don't get their great CC at the low levels I found even the slow mincer ae mezz worked a treat and with speed you can charge in from the flanks or from behind, ae mezz then get out of there :) Insta stun/flute mezz is also great and basically means no-one can get away.

So if you want a mezzing char for RvR I'd go sorc, but if you want a versatile class that can be a number of things then go for mincer. I bet you'll enjoy it :p

cast time is still horrid though etc. :puke:

heard that confuse can interrupt the pa chain, have to test that, if not guess stun and fz utility will help escape those pesky assassins :)

Why would confuse interrupt melee? It only has two uses I know of - interrupting a spell, and insta killing theurg pets (not that useful for mincers mind, but kinda handy for mentalists).

Danya, I heard about clearing the pa chain from the link below, titled how to deal with hunters and rangers without burning sos.

http://p197.ezboard.com/fbardsofcamelotfrm13.showMessage?topicID=1163.topic

"sprint and use a ranged DD clicky (alch proc 1500 range). Then I start mez and hit confuse. It has a 700 range and will interrupt him. Also good for tagging on an assassin that has gotten his PA off, as his CD follow up will be wiped when his style queue is cleared (although if he's good, he'll get CD up again). This is a very good way to bugger their PA chain."

Not tried it myself yet

A fully TOA'd and sced mincer rawks, either in grps or solo. Read some of the "nerf mincer" threads to see what I mean.

They have a very high grp utility and with the Soj ml line they are invaluable in most group setups.

The only downside is they are probably one of the hardest, if not the hardest class to play in albion.

Slightly amended your comment, but couldn't agree more :)
