I don't use sentries, maybe I should start.

Well placed forcefields can make a huge difference, especially at choke points. They also help you save minerals (costs just 50, but 100 gas) if you want to go for a quick expansion.

Lost loads of games due to being dropped today... so fking annoying.

Anyone else find it much easier to macro on terran? With Protoss i find it really hard to keep my money low on 3 or more bases. I think it's having to warp shit in that does it. I get supply blocked a lot more as well and always end up just spamming a load of Pylons at once.

Ahh good morning, 3 wins in a row, and all got 12 points, 18 points and 19 points respectively :) Usually only get 2-6 for my wins.

Do something productive instead. Like learning a new language or an instrument. Have a wank or two. Make some good food and watch an interesting documentary.

Decided to try some 3v3 games earlier. Proper funny stuff :p You know you are in for a long one when the first thing one of your allies says is "how can i make money in this game?" :D

We should set up some 2v2 and 3v3 etc teams. Most of you are online when I am.

I'd be up for that. Not too sure about any specific 2v2/3v3 tactics or anything tho.

I'd be up for that too. :) I just have to search through this thread for you guys's IDs and add you!

BTW i played some PvT games tonight, and found a pretty good way to avoid getting muta bumrushed. 2 gate aggressive opening, attack when at 5 zealots.. then depending how that goes (if he doesn't have much, keep on pumping zealots), you either win easily, or force him to turtle up a bit with roaches and spine crawlers. If you see roach/spine crawler, don't suicide the zealots in his base, but rather camp them by his natural while you take your first expansion.

Then go ahead and mass up to 6 warpgates, and tech whatever from there. You'll have him by the balls at that point as long as you stay on top of your macro and keep scouting the map so he doesn't do a sneaky expand somewhere. I usually make a couple stargates and void rape him from there. :D

This worked really nicely for me against all zerg tonight, except for one diamond level dude who had 300 apm in the beginning and by the end of the game had an average of 103 apm.. he was able to secure his expansion because i made the mistake of following him into his main after i killed his FE, and there i had my small zealot force trounced. So of course he could secure his expansion from there, build a wall of spine crawlers and then some minutes later.. BAM he had 18 mutalisks lol.. oh well. Lesson learnt, and i felt i got a lot better after the games tonight. :)

Ta for that Levin, aggressive openings against Zerg is where I really suffer. It's my lack of knowledge of zerg units that fucks me up. I tend to stutter and be indecisive, then fall behind in economy.

Putting early pressure on a zerg is always good (just know when to retreat and don't go all in) because it forces him to use his larvae make units early on when he would rather be making drones; slowing down his economy and tech. It also prevents him from fast expanding.

Btw, I meant PvZ in my previous post, of course. :)

Ch3tan, i think the best way to learn the zerg units is to make yourself play as Zerg for a while, even if you do plan to go back to Protoss. In doing so you get a lot of knowledge not only about their units but also about timings and what to expect when you see certain buildings after scouting.

/plays Green Day "do you know your enemy" :D

Yeah I know, I know, but I'm just starting to improve my win loss ratio :)

I'll use my early zealot pressure better, against other P and T's I know the timings and have faith in mu units abilities versus their units. So I guess I really do need to play as zerg to learn that.

Phoenix plus stalkers are awesome, you can just gravity beam lots of foes into the air, and the stalkers will shoot them, great stuff :D

I tried a Phoenix build vs. zerg but i think i went the wrong way about it.. i went just 2 gate and then teched to phoenixes instead of expanding, which left me sorely lacking in defense when he came knocking.. didn't help that i had harrassed him beforehand. :(

I reckon harrassing with phoenix would be a good way to capitalize on the advantage after the initial 2 gate push though, but at that stage i figure void rays are better since they can straight-down win the game for you. Hmm hmm! I WANT to use phoenixes though, because they're awesome and it's hilarious to lift up dudes and blow them to smithereens! :D

Voids cost a lot more though, in minerals and gas.

Yes, but you can harrass with just one or two voids and if the opponent isn't prepared for it you'll just win right there by pumping more out through your one stargate. :) I like them because i suck at microing huge complicated armies. :D

I've just finished my placement matches, and I'm ranked 100th in Silver. I assume that crap compared to youse younger folks who still have hand/eye co-ordination.

Anyway, if anyone wants to add me, I'm Toyan 933

Higher than me, I can't seem to get out of Bronze. Just when I think I've got good enough, the goal posts move.

My bonus pool seems to be bugged :( The pool keeps increasing but I don't get any points out of it when I win. Hopefully this will be fixed when they do the next patch. Otherwise my rating won't be able to keep up with the retarded inflation that's in this crappy rating system.

Ahah is that what the bonus pool is for? So basically if I keep grinding away, I'll get more points per win due to the bonus pool?

I think it just builds up over time. When I didnt play for about a week I had like 150 in the bonus pool. It gives you a max of +10 points if you win each time iirc.

The bonus pool just builds up over time. Every time you win a game you get the points you won from the match + an equal amount of points from your bonus pool (these points are now removed from the bonus pool).

So If I have a bonus pool of 40 and I win and would get +12 points from the win, then I will get +24 points instead and my bonus pool will have 28 points left in it.

Mine just builds up and does nothing though so I don't get any extra points. It's a crap system anyway tbh. You can't really judge skill based on someone's rating because the bonus pool seems to inflate everyones rate over time. I remember a few weeks ago being 1000+ diamond meant you were a top world player, and now I have over 1000 points and the top players are like 1500+. If Blizzard doesn't change something then the top players will have like 4000 points by christmas.

I'm finding in 2v2, where my team is ranked right near the bottom of bronze, every game we're up against players who are right at the top of the bronze ladder. Thus we tend to get spanked a lot.

Could it be that the teams around our 'level' just aren't online, or is Blizzards ranking setup just a little bit poo?

Oh, and although we are ranked, on the opening screen it always says there are 5 placement matches to go...
