Also I don't think the wires at the back are supposed to be hangin around like that. I'm fairly sure this is a ghetto Delorean with the owner raiding that house there and then.

You mean it'll actually work? What a terrible feature to have in a car... ;)

The new GTR is ... still Japanese ... nearly as bad as being German :)

I've had a couple of japanese cars over the years and they tend to be very reliable and of good build quality, same with german cars actually. In my experience French cars are the worst; the last Renault we owned had slightly different shades of paint on every panel and the trim didn't line up anywhere, did drive well though.

I think the GTR is a technical masterpiece and I'm sure very good to drive from a "best on paper" point of view, but it left me feeling a bit cold as if it had no soul.

German cars! Blah! no thanks, seems most german makes end up being taken over by complete tossers that you hate to have on the road

I disagree mate, having sat in one and accelerated to 80mph I can tell you it feels more than a bit special and has plenty of soul. The finishes are near perfection, it is comfortable whilst delivering incredible performance, Nissan have a brilliant backup service, oh and it delivers nearly 30 miles per gallon which is pretty much unheard of in a car of this calibre. It might not have the good looks of a DB7 or the kudos of a Ferrari but it blows the doors off any car in it's price range and is incredibly easy to drive unlike most cars in that class. Can not wait to have a look at the 2012 model, just hoping I can blag a ride in one because I certainly can't afford to buy one! :D

Pretty sure you have to turn launch control ON, rather than the other way round.

Agreed, Jap being most fun and Ger being the best made.

Not talking about 200k a Porsche here, just in general majority ;p

If I wanted a fun quick and affordable RWD car, I wouldn't buy a BMW I would buy a MR2 (good old cheap RWD fun, shit car tho) or Supra. But if I wanted an all around good and comfortable car to do miles in (otherwise i'd rather have a GTR, EVO, or Honda), I'd buy a BMW or a Merc if I could afford it. VW looks and feels boring as shit, just has no soul .... AUDI I don't like the cars or the rep.

VW is like driving the mk4/mk5 Astra, yes it drives fine, yes some have nice power. But it's still an Astra, it's just an "ok" car with some decent power models, and all the models feel / like the same. Has no soul imo.

Funnily enough that was the kind of argument I was expecting Clarkson to make and then plump for the Jag (its his normal shtick), but he played it straight.

If I was rich enough to have the GTR as a second or third car, I'd have one, but although I do love it for its engineering bonkersness, if I was in that price range for a day to day sportscar, I'd get something German; I think living with the GTR would be quite wearing. No denying its an amazing car and dirt cheap in proportion to its talents though.

I also think a lot of 50+ Jag lovers won't give two tits about it's paper credentials - as long as it looks good, goes quick, has a V8 burble and looks great outside the golf club.

How would you spend £100k Gaff?

So....

Ferrari
Lamborghini
Maserati
Alfa Romeo
TVR
Corvettes
Vipers
Noble

All shit then are they? Really?

I feel about the GTR a similar way I do about the R8, technically impressive, but leaves me utterly cold, and its far too big imo. There have also been some deeply worrying stories of massive bills and terrible service from Nissan on them, so I woud personally steer clear.

And again, like the R8, I'd pocket the change and buy and M3, and get used to looking at the road ahead through the drivers window. Or maybe save up an extra 15k and get the M3 GTS. Or a Corvette ZR1. Or a Viper.

Argh too much choice...

TVR, just known for breaking down a hell of a lot,

Corvs / Vipers don't do corners.

The rest, lovely cars!

Ferrari - not shit
Lamborghini - not shit since they became German
Maserati - not shit since they became Ferrari
Alfa Romeo - beautiful, but really not very good (sorry teeds) & I've owned 3!
TVR - shit
Corvettes - shit
Vipers - shit
Noble - bonkers, but would you own one?

So in summary, except Ferrari, the best cars do tend to be German or Japanese. Having said that, I love Aston Martins, the Jag XF and all Range Rovers, so Indian and UAE cars are good too!

List of Nürburgring Nordschleife lap times - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looking at that, the Corvette ZR1 and the Viper ACR seem to have made it round the 'Ring faster than Japan's finest, and I've heard the 'Ring has a corner or two. The 'Vette C6 has been getting praise from journos and car fans all roun the world, and the Viper might handle like its drunk, but its just so damned special.

But then, I don;t really like Jap cars. I find them fairly boring and plasticy inside. I'd have an NSX Type-R, and a Lexus LF-A, but that's about it. The rest do nothing for me. Too much Too Fast, Too Furious imo.

You really have to be top of the food chain pro to get the viper around the ring that quick.

To the average guy, the ones that think they can drive because he hammers it in a street, never done a lot of track days. A viper or Corv can't corner for shit, take a tuned out old MR2 or Supra, throw it in to a corner in the wet and see how good you are.

But get fully comp insurance first.

Yes, they are all well known bad cornering cars but the MR2 and Supra are a lot cheaper to find that out.
