Possibly. I've been playing games online since I got addicted to quake 2 CTF on my 56k modem. I played so much that it completely burned me out and I rarely care about online anymore. I love a good story driven single player campaign now, and my PS3 (plus my PS2 backlog) gives me more than enough of that.

Which is exactly why I don't get discussions like this. Everyone has their preferences for gaming habbits, prefered genres, reasons for playing etc, yet still people try to convince other why their console of choice is better. It's so fucking silly.

This'll prolly be read in a bad way so I'll add this, it wasn't a dig at you St^, but at least some people can just be happy with the console they have without bitching so much about the others.

Last year the Sony faction on this forum were all claiming Christmas 2008 was gonna be thiers, they said the same of Christmas 2007 and fell flat on thier arses as well. This year will be a repeat, infact there may well be blood on the floor when all is said and done.

Face facts boys, 2 years on from PS3 release and it is STILL 10 million units behind in worldwide sales. Thats right, Sony are no closer to overturning that lead now than they were at PS3 release. The PS3 has not gained the traction you all claimed it would, partly because of the price, partly because of the poor software lineup with crap ports and partly because Wii stole alot of your traditional customers.

Either way, the PS3 is still a long long way behind and the 360 is alot cheaper which means that the PS3 will most likely get murdered this Christmas on pricepoint alone, the 360 delivers pretty much what the PS3 does but it is alot cheaper and there is alot more software available. There is a recession on, families ain't going to be spending £270 on a console for little Timmy this year because just as I said last year why would they when they can get the same for less elsewhere.

Meh, my view on this is always based on what I see selling at work.

Had one enquiry about a ps3 yesterday (did not want one after we told them price), 3 customers wanted ps2's instead (but we haven't got any). Sold 5 360's, 2 wii's.

Software sales reflect the above.

Not a failure, but not the ideal console during these tough time either. Not when you can get such good value bundles on the 360 right now.

Ultimately Sony failed with the PS3 because they thought that it would sell just because of the Playstation brand.

One thing I've hated the most about console ownerships, is other console owners. It's nearly as fucking tiresome as this typical IRC conversation:

me: "I bought an nVidia graphics card"

nerd: "because ati pwns nd is leet0r, your FPS will sux0r because it doesn't have quantum shaders with Z vertices and X wings, LOL"

well my 360 went caput on me 2 nights ok so have had to make do with the free ps3 my gf got from carphone warehouse.

Got lbp which my gf already had and got mgs4 today for 15 at tesco and it is still installing 10mins later and no doubt will have 5gigs of updates for the game to download as well.

What should be put the disc in and play for a console is quickly starting to feel like I'm sat in front of a pc waiting for the installs and updates to finish.

Interesting you're focussing on the shitness of the PS3 install routine.. but at least it works which is more than can be said for your 360 .

The thread was started by me to discuss whether the PS3 is losing the console war, not whether it should be losing it or is any good. As I've said, PS3 is the only one I own.

Looking at the evidence I think it will survive but it will lose out to M$ and Nint and whether it turns a profit will largely depend on how creative Sony's accountants are. I might be wrong though.

Lol Nath, that gave me a chuckle. There was a kid at school by the name of Danny Curle who was a Sega fanatic and we had some great battles during that era. Funnily enough Danny was featured on the Gamesmaster show a few times and went on to win some form of Video Game world championship in 1991, after college it seems he got into console game magazine publishing and ended up as editor at one of the big magazines a few years back. I wonder if he still recalls that I used to kick his arse with my 'Mode 7 is the reason why SNES kills Mega Drive' arguement?

Does no one else find this complaint utterly petty? A one time wait of 5-10 minutes is nothing and makes no difference to anyone at the end of the day. It makes the game run faster anyway, what's the big deal?
