I have decided to upgrade my Xperia X1 to an Xperia X10 in the new year. I've been watching some videos of it in action, and I have to be honest, a little bit of sex wee came out.

I like the look of it and the Motorola Milestone, but I am unsure of what their firmware update policy is like, I know with the Hero that HTC will be updating it constantly and keeping it current. I will probably wait until summer before upgrading again, my Hero will do me well until the,/

The Xperia X10 does indeed look boooootiful - anything that shits on the iPhone gets my vote, I'm sick and tired of reading Facebook updates with "just got my iPhone - it's the best phone out there!"

The only specification of the x10 I don't like is the assisted GPS. Give proper GPS ffs!

Unless I'm mistaken - assisted GPS is proper GPS but assisted by the network so that it can attain a lock much faster. The Hero has AGPS but that doesn't stop it from being as accurate as any other regular GPS.

As for the X10, I just watched a little youtube vid of the interface and I've gotta say, not entirely impressed. Looks very clunky indeed.

G, I agree about the iphone zealots, the problem is they're not entirely wrong. I popped in to the apple store yesterday to catch up with a mate and tinkered with an ipod touch while I was there - the interface is genuinely second to none. Astonishingly fast and well made, I just don't like the lack of multitasking.

I thought the same, but I'm reserving judgement given how many "clunky" remarks there were about the Hero until it got a ROM upgrade that fixed all that.

If it ends up being slick and fast, it could be brilliant.

I'm just very hopeful that the HTC sense with 2.0 update makes further performance updates, the Hero isn't perfect yet.

Very sluggish indeed, hopefully that's just because it's a leaked version.

These videos really do not do Android or the phones any favours.

2.1 is apparently a disaster of a Distro in that its really early days and has a huge number of bugs. But the features will be awesome, it is a leaked version after all.

Nope aGPS means the GPS works only with a network data connection, the hero has both aGPS and GPS, if for example you have nav software on the hero you do not need your data connection on (when abroad for example). With aGPS you would need to eat into your data allowance, or pay for it abroad.

Or maybe not, reading into it I can't decide if it uses data or not.

I think from how it was explained assisted GPS uses data to download a list of sat locations every 7 days so you get a quicker lock on time its why you don't get 1 minute cold boots anymore.

Im stuck in 3 different minds with my new phone there must be a hero replacement in the works im hoping built on HD2 hardware and without the chin. Then the Moto looks good like the Samsung but its spec like the Hero (Samsung has an awesome screen). And the SE i like the specs but my last two have poor build quality so im not sure i would risk one untill a few months after release.

I think the HTC Dragon may be what you're after soze - it's an android phone with the HD2 screen (as far as I recall). Dunno when it's out though.

I think any clunks in the X10 O/S are primarily there as it still in pre-production. The launch videos looked very shaky but I have seen one from a month later and the difference is night and day. The main Android screens look lovely and snappy, it's just Timescape and MediaScape that need some work. I would envisage things getting better and better as it is updated though.

Wait for the Google Phone (Nexus One) first? Could be cheaper and is probably going to be a Google experience phone instead of branded like the others.

The Milestone (Euro Droid) is available at Expansys, but it's £450.

The Google Phone could be the best of this generation i just hope the spec is as high as some of the rumors. Im not liking that free turn by turn navigation is not coming to europe i hope its just a matter of time. I know it can be hacked but sometimes i want things easy ;)

I was under the impression that turn by turn would be on the 2.0 update to the Hero - though that's quite a recent article and would no doubt mention it if it were the case.

Hrm :\

I've seen another article (can't find it now) that said we are still getting google maps nav, but not until 2.1.

Also the Google nexus one is the HTC Bravo/Passion. May well be worth selling the Hero for when it comes out.

I would also get the HTC option over the Droid, you know with the HTC phones that software will be upgraded and they will support the handset.
