On the standard keyboard, press the key marked "12#" on the right of the space bar, then press "1/2" on the left of the space. 3rd button in on the top row.

My only concern with HTC Android phones at the moment would be if they're ever going to update them.

The Hero was supposed to get the 1.6 update, then the 2.0 update, still waiting on the 2.1 update - it's stuck on 1.5. I can't trust HTC to provide regular updates on new phones when they haven't even done any updates to their older phones. The Legend/Desire are nice phones, but I could end up in the exact same situation when 2.2 comes along and HTC are showing off new phones but refusing to update the older ones.

That's a fair point, I was hoping for Android 1.6 so I could get the turn-by-turn sat nav that Google are now doing free.

Well the 1-2 version updates are major ones so probably take longer.

IIRC, HTC held the hero update back so they could sell more Desires. Should be here end of this month.

Lots of great custom rom's around though, so it's not a huge problem.

The current custom ROMs are good, but they're never really polished releases - they're all based on development leaks with various problems.

A custom ROM based on an official release would be ideal, the polish of an official release with the extras which only custom ROMs provide.

Chet, HTC have confirmed that there's a preparatory update for 2.1 on Hero and that's due out early June. They've said the full 2.1 update will be out "soon" after that. :\

Apparently there is an update out for my Satio currently which adds a DLNA Compliant media streamer to it. I'm also told it works a charm, so may have to investigate this later.

It will depend if it needs a new rom 2.1 > 2.2 then Desire owners need to wait for HTC to release it. Im hoping as the Nexus is Google's the updates will be speedy.

Not sure Tom, seems the desire is nearly untouched by the main culprits of Voda, Orange and T-mobile. Even 3 are selling an unbranded Desire on payg. I'd think they only changes might be a few apps of their own. I'd expect that Google are quite touchy about changes to their flagship phone. They are selling it as the "google experience" after all.

I know you need to have a Modoco Plus subscription, but have you seen their Online ROM kitchen for the Hero?

I doubt google will let them, but it's quite easy to flash a nexus one. The roms are available online or direct from google.
