Why bother with the X10 when the Desire is getting rave reviews from, well, everyone?

Because it is made by HTC. Next question.

I'm guessing every shit HTC phone you've had has been Windows Mobile. I'm also going to suggest that the vast majority of the problems you had were related to WinMo too - the hardware is sound. All my old HTC phones are still going strong, it's just a shame about the software on them :).

qft.
I have a battered old XDA Orbit 2 (HTC Polaris) and on it's own it's meh. When you apply a custom ROM from XDAdev, it starts to really be a lot better. It's got even better in the last couple of months because there are reliable versions of Android available for it now. So I can dual-boot WinMo and Android, or even burn the Android ROM as the default.

Bodhi, there's such a thing as taking the anti-HTC thing too far you know. I've had either SE or HTC phones of one sort or another since 2002 so I'm in a good position to know that they both good manufacturers.
SE P800
XDA Exec (HTC Universal)
XDA Orbit 2 (HTC Polaris)
SE Xperia X1
SE Xperia X10 (wife's)

Next purchase... HTC Desire in June. Unless anyone knows of a supremely WHOA! phone coming out in the next 3-4 months?

How about you all put your mobilepeens away and tell me which one of these *fancy* phones has the best battery life, because, well, call me old fashioned but that is more important to me than being able to drink a pretend pint of Carling on my iPhone.......I want to charge at most every 3 days, until then all this bollocks can fuck off

You want a Nokia 6310, the battery lasts over a week.

You are just jealous that he thought of it first before you did :p

I am holding off on picking up mine until Brodit release a proper HTC Desire mount kit. that and its retail price goes under the 399 asking price.

Very much considering installing a Modaco rom now given that one of the comments on androidforums is "feels like someone slipped a snapdragon in to my hero!".

I just tried the Google Maps navigation. It's pretty good. Of course, since the voices are all text-to-speech-ized, road names can sound a bit dodgy.

The "Did you mean?" feature is thick though. I entered "Arsenal FC" for a destination, and it suggested a load of local football clubs, none of which had Arsenal in the title.

See the screen protectors have been delayed again, so worried about doing something silly and damaging my screen.

Incidentally, I bought a screen protector with my Hero and have never used it. I figured it would interfere with the touch sensitivity. As it stands, my screen is holding up very well - looks as good as new and I'm not dramatically precious with it, though I don't treat it like shit. I think these screens are pretty well made and robust.

3.1/3.2 looks *very* good, but am I right in thinking that they're both using Android 2.1 as a base, and have Sense over the top? I.e, they're not just the standard Hero Android (1.5) with some system tweaks?

Thanks Chet although I'll wait since the reviews for those seem a bit bad.

Women.

I said to my missus tonight (but I was joking) "I just ordered an HTC Desire sim free, just like your phone!!!" and she said "what?! why do you always steal my ideas!!" and then her eyes welled up.

Way to overreact? :(

Only heard good things about Martinfields screen protectors. I am tempted to wait for the invisishield for the desire to be available though. That gives you all over protection.
