Only heard good things about Martinfields screen protectors. I am tempted to wait for the invisishield for the desire to be available though. That gives you all over protection.

invisishield's always make me fell like a inept tool takes me ages to fit them properly

Screen protectors? What a load of gay, I'm on my 4th touchscreen phone now and haven't needed a screen protector for any of them. But then I don't buy cheap Chinese tat, so that might be why.

Lol John, come on - you're being just as lame as apple fanboys :). Anyway, I haven't used a screen protector on my Hero, or my HTC TyTN2 (which is years old and got a lot of abuse. They're all fine, HTC phones are grand, I'll say it again - it's WinMo that was gash.

Having a screen protector is for those time's you have greasy fingers, or are drunk and put your phone in your pocket with your keys. It means your phone has a batter resale value than it would otherwise.

It's a very cheap way to protect the quality of the screen.

Ah, cheers for that. I think I might jump on to one of the Sense 2.1 ROMs floating about.

Haven't used one ever, my W950i is 4 years old now and the screen is fine. Even my Xperia, which was put together by HTC (hence my issues with them - shoddiest build from any SE I've had, and I've had a few) is fine. If it gets greasy, I just wipe it clean?

It doesn't take a lot to damage any screen esp given the right job, the simple fact is until you do or you've seen it you tend to be care free about it. I didn't risk it with my PSP at the time and I would prefer not to have to pay through the nose to repair my Desire.

I treat my PSP like crap and the screen is still perfect.

I did try to put a protector on it, but I couldn't do it with no bubbles, so I gave up. :D

I didn't damage mine in the time I used or the proctective screen on it but prevention is better and certainly cheaper than cure.

When I have damaged a screen its always keys in the pocket. And scratches are very annoying so I would rather spend £12 than risk it.

Fucker fucker fucker fucker fucker. :)

OMG! It's fucking amazing.

You must buy it teh NATH!

One slight annoyance, if anyone has found a workaround; facebook contacts sync, but unlike on the Hero, you cannot select which info syncs. The desire "links" the contacts, so a google, facebook and phone contact are synced as the same contact. This however means you get the contact number displayed 3 times, same with any other info. Forced me to delete sim and phone contacts to stop some duplication, just need to remove facebook contact info without removing other facebook detail.

Hmmm, there is a problem with htc sync and vista 64 and win 7 64. The only fix seems to be to uninstall .net framework 3.5 and then try and install sync.

HTC's official line is that they do not support vista or win 7 64bit. Poor.

HTC Sync works fine for me on my Win7 64 bit, are you just having trouble with the latest version for the Desire?

Yes, although it's been reported on older versions as well. Had a good google around and found a fix eventually (no thanks to HTC). It's a bug during installation. You need to uninstall any versions of .net above 2.0 and any visual basic 2005/2008. Then sync installs.

It does need some work, I get the odd errors when connecting through certain USB ports. Also doesn't sync contacts etc with WLM.

Just had Tmobile retentions on the phone.

Desire free for £30 per month, or £70 + £25per month.
Flex 30 tariff.

Thoughts?

Wait them out, give 30 days notice, see what they offer you then.

Okay, I've had a couple of days with the Desire now, and I am blown away.

It's so much better in every respect than the Hero - and I found the Hero excellent. HTC have really made a phone here that competes with the iphone in terms of looks and ease of use.

Every time I use it, I'm happy. Feels very naturally suited to web browsing, nothing lags, reception and sound quality are very good - I had trouble with 3g signal at work with the Hero, none with the Desire. The camera is probably the best I have seen on a smartphone, barring the x10, and certainly on par with most of the camera phone offerings.

Build quality is excellent, and it fits into the Krussel leather pouch I had for my Hero perfectly.

My Hero is off for repair, once it comes back I'll be offloading it (special Freddies rates if anyone here wants it).

Few tips for anyone migrating; the Hero has issues with syncing new contacts you create on the phone with google. So I had 90 odd contacts that were not on my Desire. There are a few apps that will force the sync with google, but they can fuck up and mess your contacts up. Use ExportContacts by Rishi Srivatsavai (free) to export your remaining contacts to a .csv that you can then upload to google.
For anyone upgrading Rom's or changing android phones, use SMS Backup and Restore (free, by Ritesh Sahu), and you can backup and restore all your texts to SD card. The restore is slow, but it worked perfectly.

(yes Nath and Big G, the above is aimed specifically at you)
