Wish there was less BS involved with converting DVDs to other formats.

Yes, but it's a bit like saying "Ooooh I've got cancer, that's nowhere near as bad as AIDS". Still looks gash imo, AND STILL DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH FUCKING BUTTONS BELOW THE SCREEN!

In phones that don't make you look like a tosser news, I see the X10 is getting multi-touch with the 2.1 update. Not due til September apparently, however that gives me time to save up for one. I was going to sell the Satio and buy one, but the Satio is too good to get flogged. The app side might be lacking (more down to Voda than SE), but for everything else, it jobbies all over everything on the market imo.

Just because Eclair is mt capable doesn't mean that the X10 will become mt overnight. The discussion is that the phone doesn't have the hardware to become mt capable.

I've got one (well my wife has one, I get to use it). It's a nice phone but you shouldn't base your purchase decision on whether it's mt or not. Right now it doesn't have mt. Sony have said time and again that the hardware doesn't support mt. I think it's very unlikely that the manufacturer would say something like that if there was the possibility of it being mt capable.

One thing to bear in mind is that it EATS battery. Like 10% per hour.

I'm not sure about that Micro SIM. Means its not as easy to switch your card between phones. I know there will be adaptors but i don't like it.

As pointed out Bod's is just a confused Apple fan who has mistaken Sony for Apple.

Why bother with the X10 when the Desire is getting rave reviews from, well, everyone?

Really? I think Apple has made them look worse with every reincarnation. I still dislike the plastic backing to my 3GS in comparison to my original 2G. Think that one is starting to look like an HP/Compaq iPaq.

No, I didn't buy an ipod touch, I got given one, for free.

I wouldn't have spent my money on apple shite.

In other news, my HERO is fucked. Had problems with the mic for a few weeks, now the lower right quadrant of the screen has lost it's ability to sense touch :(

Getting the Desire anyway, but this is annoying as I have to go back to my 6600 classic for a bit :/

My contracts up next month and I want a new phone but I dunno what I want!

My priorities are, in order:

Music
Calls/texting
Net access
Apps
Everything else

I was leaning towards an X10 but I can't be doing with all the social/facebook crap.

Anyone recommend me a good phone? (not an iphone...)

So the fact that many people in this thread are raving and ranting about the new HTC Desire didn't seem to clue you into anything?
Its out now on Vodafone and T-Mobile tariffs, with o2 following before the end of the month with their offering as well.

I did read this thread before posting and looked up some reviews of the desire - none of them seem to mention what it's like for music, in fact most HTC phones are apparently not that great in this respect.

I was asking for opinions specifically for what I'm after in a phone - sorry if that offends you in any way! But hey, at least you got to use a decades old jpg and look cool on an internet forum

Now kindly fuck off

GSMArena review of the HTC Desire, Page 8 labelled "Multimedia"

states "At any rate the Desire readings are excellent all over, the HTC handset pulling one of the best all-round performances that we have ever seen. Check it out for yourselves."
and thats up against the big hitter music phone the Iphone 3GS

If you use headphones the the Desire with an app called bTunes (costs about $2) will be fine. It gives you a interface like you get on the iphone which is very polished. The Loud speaker if you like chaving it up will not set your world alight though. Calls are fine, Texting can be customised with different Apps like Handcent which i really like but by default in Sense it is fine anyway. And again with Net Access there are a few browsers that you can run if you don't like something in the default browser. In short it is a really strong phone and apart from the camera it does not really have a weak point.

Thanks for the link to the review, I'll go have a read.

See, isn't being helpful rather than reposting ancient pictures satisfying?

Being a Sony phone, the X10 is supposed to be a bit better than the Desire for things like music. It does have a whole Sony-only app just for playing media. I don't use my Desire for music so I have no idea what the deal is.

Don't let the 'social crap' put you off the X10 -- it's just an app that you don't have to use. You should, however, let battery life and software bug complaints put you off.

The X10 is great for music. Mediascape took a little learning but it's not that bad as far as media managers go. The showstopper for some people is that there is no FM radio built into the X10 while the Desire does.
The social/FB crap on the X10 is a separate thing called Timescape and you don't have to run it at all. You can even remove the widget from your home screen so that you don't see anything social network at all.

Being absolutely blunt, it's tough to separate the Desire and the X10 in terms of features. In terms of technical spec, they're quite similar. In terms of Android, X10 is currently running Doughnut (1.6) while Desire is running Eclair (2.1). The Timescape/Mediascape GUI is more to some people's liking, HTC's SenseUI is more to others. The best way to decide is to go somewhere like Carphone Warehouse and try both of them side by side in your hand. I like the X10 but I prefer the Desire because I'm a HTC fanboi. Mrs.Zenith prefers the X10 to the Desire because it has an understated look about it. It's swings and roundabouts.

Need to figure out why my desire isn't playing music in the actual track order.

Sorted if I touch the album and say play it just seems to play the tracks in any order but if I go into the album then click menu and play all it plays them in proper order.

How old is it, and did you buy it new? There's nothing really to stop you taking it back to the seller, and demanding it be repaired.

Oh yeah, I have the RMA form for expansys, they will have to replace or repair under warranty.
