Tony Curran *AND* Bill Nighy.
It was like a reunion of the cast from Underworld 2. :)

Doc is conveniently flying around in an alternate version of the Tardis, so it doesn't matter if it explodes and starts the rifts, the plot will reset and he'll be back in his old Tardis.

Given the very uneven writing in this series it could be a great ending, or it could be another Dallas shower scene.

Personally, I'd like to see them take some risks and try something to reboot the whole concept.

He should regenerate as a can of beans - now try using the deus ex machina screwdriver :p

Don't know why peolpe are so anti-screwdriver.

It rarely solves problems, just delays things and it's really like a fun superpower because it's so random.

It rarely solves problems

*buzzer sound* It is overused. It was removed in the old, original, series because the same thing happened with it then too. Even if it doesn't solve the problem it is the first thing he tries.

He's forever waving the bloody thing in the air too, I think it may be over compensation for another problem he has.

Well to be honest i don't like the new screwdriver, the blue one was much cooler and was half hoping he'd have a red one(which would look like it was mdce from junk, not like a mattel toy) and yes, the mannerism the new doc waves it about is becomign a bit tedious, but it doesn't remove what i said; it's a middle thing, something to do, a poke at a badger and rarely(if ever really) fixes anything.

Maybe they should make it more part of the doctor, then make it part of the show.

I don't think i even noticed much when tennant did his, it was more of a flick of the wrist scan if any.

Aye, Tony Curran is usually pretty good. Been in lots of stuff. Was surprised he didn't at least neutralise the accent but hey ho.

Am I the only person to 'get' that they had van Gogh with a Scottish accent due to Tardis telepathy/translation shenanigans, and that's why he thought Amy's Scottish accent matched his real one ?

And, yes, brilliant episode. Admittedly I may have some bias due to not liking a couple of the recent episodes so much, but still.

Yes, because even the people who made the show didn't know that. You're the only one.

Indeed. Thought it was obvious really. Plus the Doctor made some comment about it too.

Unfortunately, that logic breaks down really fast.

Why doesn't every alien they encounter then speak in such accents. They often use exotic accents.

For example then, why don't daleks sound like they are from Yorkshire?

Because even though the Doctor likes Britain the most he loves all humans and earth thus the tardis translates to any Englash dialect

It's an interesting theory on both sides but the bottom line is they don't do anything like it consistently either way.

Who wants to spend the first half of every episode translating languages/dialects anyhow?

Yes, it was more of a one-shot thing for a cheap gag, but it is the explanation in this case.

Well anyway, the next one has got James Corden in it, so the chances of me liking it (or even watching it) are quite close to zero.

*looks up this Corden person on IMDB*

Ah, him. Yeah after seeing a couple of episodes of Gavin & Stacey (the then-gf's family had it on the TV at Xmas ...) I can see the potential for awfulness. On the other hand I think I saw him on Mock The Week or some-such and he seemed OK in that sort of thing. Cross your fingers it's like Ricky Gervais, who I absolutely cannot stand when he's doing his Office persona (which he more or less did in Ghost Town too, and is why I gave up watching it after about 40 minutes), but... he can actually act if he puts his mind to it. He was excellent in an episode of Alias, for instance.

Watch The Invention of Lying, not his usual character/film at all

I'll watch the next Dr Who, havent missed one and not planning on boycotting one on the off chance someone is in it that may ruin it. And im sure everyone else will watch it at some point even those here who are threatening to boycott it

I bet you all watched some if not all the ones with Catherine Tate at some point

Catherine Tate was a moot point for me, as not I'd avoided seeing any of her show, and pretty much any of her other stuff at all, so I had no pre-conceptual hate for the idea of her in Doctor Who. I actually think she did quite well, the character of Donna did 'work' for me. When she was annoying it fit.

As annoying at Tate was i think she managed to show a real progression with that character. Starting off completely annoying and one dimensional and growing into a mature person. Only to fall back to the original arsehole at the end when she forgot who the doctor was.

Very well done imo. Shes still a **** though

just played the new doctor who RPG that the bbc have released, its actually got a better storyline than most of this series episodes have had.

didnt really like the last one it was not my taste at all its almost like you can tell they are running on a budget. tbh if they cant do justice to dr who they should stop production till the funds are available to do so. gettin really fed up of every episode been dominated by earth. time lord ffs master of space and time and its all about 1 little planet? come on :/

Id say the opposite tbh. Ride out the budget restraints and have the fans create more revenue due to DVD sales etc and help with increasing the budget for next series

So are you saying that is worth checking out? I'd been pondering it, but was wondering if it was too much aimed at kids.

I know that you are still watching the football, but just to tell you that you must not watch tonight's episode because the most hated man (apparently) in britain, well on FH anyway, is in it, James Corden, and i wouldn't want you all to be physically sick when you see him and all your heads explode

I know how sensitive you all are about these things

Thought it was a good one though, although i'm sure you will all disagree with me

btw, i have started on the JD very, very early tonight

Very good episode. Lots of proper eccentricity in it. Corden was ok. Not bad, not great.

The payoff to what was really going on was worth the wait, something lacking in that dreadful Van Gogh episode.

The crack thing is tedious as fuck though. The integration with ongoing episodes is woefully badly done. However, it didn't detract from most of the episode, it just shows a lack of talent in the writers.
