Hate two parters, even if i do love 'em :p

Another episode with old stuff in it, doubley so with Mrs Doctor. So nothing new in this season, but maybe we'll get there.

No worry though, the angels are a good evil and Mrs Doctor is a treat.

Waiting for ze Daughter to pop back in for a visit.

Was a really good episode, however the thing that bugged me was that clearly new Who has gotten me way to used to the "solved in a single episode" format. I totally missed that it would be a two parter and when it got to the end I was like "wtf, I have to wait until next week?!?!?". Having thought about it now though, I'm quite hopeful that Moffat will bring in longer story arcs.

Indeed a huge difference between Original Dr Who and New Dr Who is the old one I think always had 6 episodes stories. IIRC those episodes were only in 30 minute slots though ?

Going to mostly single stories in ~40 minute (and I bet the length was chosen so as to easily sell into countries like the USA where that length with ads is an hour) episodes was a huge change and does place limits on pacing etc.

Still, I've liked most of New Dr Who this far, so I'm not utterly complaining.

He already is writing in longer story arcs.
I watched Blink for the first time today and I'm watching last night's episode atm. Steven Moffat has a far better understanding of the non-linear nature of time travel than Russell T Davies did.
In "Blink", The Doctor was sending a message into the future for Sally to act on in her present. It was like the beginning of Back To The Future 3 where Doc Brown sends Marty in 1955 a letter from 1885.
In "Silence In The Library", The Doctor met River for the first time from his perspective. From River's perspective, she'd known him for a long time.

And I can tell you that Weeping Angels are having the intended effect on their target audience.
My little ones freak out at them. :flame:

[edit] And don't forget that tear in reality on the wall. It's the common thread through this series.

loved the new episodes but frankly im wanting some new baddies thats the 4th episode and only 2 have been unique and tbh the 2nd was a bit shit.

fed up of the daleks i hope thats the last we see of them for some time.

loved the weeping angel episode didnt really suss it would be a 2 parter till bout 10 mins from the end was actually quite scary hope they can give us a good finish next week. so many episodes have had such good plot lines only to be ruined in the last 5 mins

but please mr moffat give us some bad ass baddies that actually make the doctor go pale with fear.

Actually I'd be surprised if it didn't go like this...

The clerics will turn out to be the people that actually dropped the angels onto the planet in the first place, wiping out the previous inhabitants so they can colonize it. Hence why they don't want the doctor to find certain things out in case he doesn't help them.

Hmm... the things they did not want the Doctor knowing where concerned with River Song though, like him not knowing who she really is and her being in prison. I think it's more likely that Song is actually the Master.

Inclined to believe River Song is Amy Pond and the crack in the universe is due to her crossing her own timeline as I believe last series the Doctor mumbled on about he can go across time but not his own timeline.

Having water sources in their names is a little tenuous for a connection but would be in keeping with the general high cheese factor that runs through Dr. Who. For the doctor to be not willing to help them would require them to do something pretty bad, for example, wiping out a civilisation so they could colonise and I don't think merely being The Master would stop that.

Fun to have something to noodle out for a change though :)

Well the only other one scenario that springs to mind at the moment is that River is another prisoner who escaped during the first episode

how come in all these new episodes tho... its always somewhere with a team of expendable people who will get bumped off 1 by 1... its getting boring.

All the comments like this, and about cheap effects, cringe worthy moments.

Did none of you ever watch Dr Who before? It's the foundations of the show, it's never been any different. If that is not your cup of tea, it really is not the program for you.

It's even mentioned as a fault of the Doctor, where other sacrifice themselves for him.

How can "cringe worthy moments" be anyone's cup of tea?

Good example is The Office. Several series of crossed transactions that have you cringing and laughing at the same time.

Not quite what you meant but I couldn't resist ;)

To be fair, that's a formula that's used by far more programs, films and books than Dr Who.

As for "cringe worthy" moments, I'm pretty sure there's no parallel between Dr Who and the Office.

Yes, now and again Dr Who makes you cringe with "jeesus, that was a bit shit" but the office's cringeworthy moments were more related to social embarassment. I didn't like the office for precisely that.

There was always loads of red-shirted people beamed down to the planet on Star Trek for this very purpose.

Similar to Ewoks, they were there to soak up the blaster fire so the heroes could do their job.

Not really digging Amy's boyfriend...
Which makes me sad that he is going to be in a few more of Who's adventures!

Last nights one was shit. I just wanted to give the boyfriend a slap and tell him to stop being such a felcher. He is similar to the boyfriend in Torchwood, an utter drip.

Seems like a regular brit to me :p

Bit disappointed that the episode didn't pick up more from the end of last episode, and only had a lighter reference to it. Could've dragged that through an episode, instead of what we had now.

Did anyone ever see 'Time Gentlemen Please', it was Al Murray's sit-com from about 10 yrs ago. The boyfriend reminds me of the barman in that, i thought it was him when i first saw him

Not really a classic, but not too bad. It was pretty unimaginative though.

Aliens masked as humans for a nefarious plot has been done to death. If we're going to see that again, there needs to be something a bit more spicy. Some great one-liners but it looked like most of the time the new Doc just seemed more uncomfortable than usual.

Quite fun. Not awesome. Still fun.

Terry Pratchet has been chatting about Dr. Who as well...
