quite like the look of the new tardis tbh its fresh and stylish its something different dont think its ever had this sort of look before least on all the dr who episodes ive seen its been either ultra sci fi or gothic or just plain mechanical.

Not great - compare and contrast that episode to 'Rose' first episode after the restart which also introduced a new doctor + companion and you'll see the gulf between them.

By comparison this episode was slow paced and kinda lacking in plot and twists - hopefully it will get a lot better.

Actually I thought it was better than "Rose"; typical Stephen Moffat (in fact it riffed on "Girl In The Fireplace" a lot).

I had kind of low expectations, but I was sold at fish-custard.

I was sold at "You're Scottish, fry something."

I thought the new Dr had enough of a nervous energy to make him feel a little different from the rest of us. Eccentricity, well he wore a bow tie, not sure how that counts but overall I was very impressed. Good start and I hope they build on it.

What surprises me about Dr.Who is that he's supposed to be an all-knowing Time Lord with the ability to go anywhere anytime. So how come the TARDIS was *constantly* breaking? And now that the TARDIS has had a sort of regeneration, will it be more reliable and hit target destinations?

The current theory in Chez Zenith...
We think Amy Pond is River Song.

Finally convinced myself to watch it, the new doctor isn't quite as annoying as I feared so I will give him a few more weeks. The new assistant is smoking hot, can't beat a fair skinned redheaded godess. :D

that could work, but river song is in one of the new episodes, they meet up again, hence the last time, she knew who he was, but he didnt recognise her, cos she meet him as he is now (if you get my drift)

Well, maybe not mistakes, maybe a little more like "taking the Doctor where the TARDIS knows he'll be needed". Yes, that does include deliberately 'screwing up' by going forwards 12 years, not 5 minutes, if the TARDIS knows things we don't (yet).

No-one else has commented yet about tonights episode so I would just like to say 'I loved it'.

Another one written by Stephen Moffat and the quality in the writing shows. Several humorous lines of a quality that you rarely got with RTD. Particularly liked:
"Scotlands got to be here somewhere."
"No they wanted their own ship"
"Good for them. Nothing changes"

I thouoght it was a good and original story and one which didn't rely on the doctor being all wonderful and amazing and must save the day. Also I like the way the relationship between him and Amy is growing as well as her character development. She very much seems to be, unlike most previous companions, her own person. A strong character and not the wimpy woman like others have been. She's there to be herself and not just to be the plot device for explaining things to the audience.

Also particualrly like the acting at the bit where the doctor snaps at Amy near the end. Gives me renewed hope that Matt Smith can do a good job like DT.

Also she's going up my hot celebrity woman list (which admittedly is very short with only Jewel Staite on it at the moment so she's moved into 2nd).

I hope this quality keeps up for the rest of the season. If so it'll be a treat. However Moffat has only written, I think, 6 of the series so it depends on the quality of the other writers and/or how much oversight he is doing of them.

I liked it. In some ways, it harkened back to the creepier episodes that has 8-year olds diving behind the couch to peer out.

I agree regarding the saving-the-day thing, as ultimately the doctor was not the one to save the day here.

I wonder how much the British-ness is being put in as a single finger to the ever prevelant Yank-focused sci fi. More of this please. Oh, and the teaser for next week just looks ace. Daleks wearing a Union Jack and Spitfires in space :D

My fave was "Right then, this isn't going to be big on dignity."

Liked it. Both me and the missus turned to look at each other with a "oh no, they're rolling out the daleks.......again" at the end, tho.

Seriously. Anyone else bored of how this once destroyed race keep appearing every season?

Apart from that, yep great :)

As one of the biggest non-uk Dr Who fans, big two thumbs up.

New doctor? Easier transition then the last one, almost full on comfortable.

New assistant? How do you say it? Phewey! Red, scottish, couldn't be better!

Story? So far, good, better then last few.

All in all, even if i loved, absolutely adored, TEnnant, this new Doc is very good and in just one episode, solified status as a new doc.

I usually judge the doc by how he acts and first time i heard "hello", i was sold :p

Really enjoying it so far. I hardly watched any of the Tennant episodes but I can see myself sticking with Smith's turn. It seems to get the blend between silly/serious/sci-fi just right.

Looks like they got the casting and writing spot on so far, the transition from Tennent has been flawless, and not having Russel Davies ruining everything is fantastic.

The transition is easy because he is basically copying Tennant's Doctor (or trying to). Kind of fail in my book.

I ahve to say that the "copying" is the good thing. It's like a new doctor(in parts), yet there's the touch of the essence still there.

Ofcourse it won't please everyone, and the new doc needs to find hsi own groove, but it's better then the new doctor being some arsewipe with a destruction mayhem attitude and a poopie joke repertuare.

Not overly sold on the new Doctor yet. Some very good and some very cringe bits in both episodes to be honest. Fishcustard was funny though. Doctors instant willingness to kill something was awful.

have to disagree tbh on the last part, i think his willingness to do the unthinkable makes him stand out from tennant, who always managed to find a solution. it also shows hes a bit rash and unstable, which is good because it leaves the viewer never knowing just how he will react and he doesnt quite know everything. where as tennant always knew everything and waited for everyone else to catch up

there were some cringe worthy moments tho not many but they were there didnt like how she suddenly seemed smarter than the doctor but ill let that go due to him been new.

also i thought the episode started out quite dark but didnt seem to go anywhere with it it didnt seem all that sinister i enjoyed it but its not a memorable dr who episode reckon a 6/10

Enjoyed it, but;

The CGI "Space Whale" at the end was fucking terrible, as was the behind the teeth image, which looked like something out of The Beano circa 1975

I thought Tennant was great at playing the part. I like how the new Doctor still has a dark side and without copying Tennant too much has made the change pretty seamless. I wasn't sure at first but in the last episode which was worse than usual I thought he did a good job with what he was given. The next episode looks good from the clips so long as the CGI isn't 1980s standard like it usually is.

That whale was shit though, poorly thought out plot tool, I thought they were just going to rip half life off with that arm thing but they didn't even bother explaining what part of the whale it was from, maybe pubic hair? An eye lash? nothing to do with the new Doctor though, he can't help it if the writers are crap and as said, I thought he did well with what he was given to work with.

Will wait and see, give it a few more episodes.
