I personally would choose the nova over that gay looking fiat any day no matter which 1 was faster .

I'm seriously considering dropping a 2.0 16v Calibra Turbo engine into my Astra - as transplants go I've been reliably informed by Courtenay Sport and several other places that it simply drops straight in. I'd need the Calibra F28 6-speed gearbox naturally and probably uprated brakes (only to save myself from death).

Would be a pretty cool mod tho - although I suspect the insurance hike would be roughly the same as the cost of the engine.

0-60 times are meaningless...

50-70 times are the real test, because there's:

a) No clutch control
b) No gear changes

...and it's all pointless, no matter how fast you go, you always want to go quicker (which is why motorbikes were invented).

My 10 year old CBR600 will still outpace 99% of road cars - no matter how much BHP they chuck out - it's just a question of physics.

Anyone hear about the Darwin award winner that strapped a bloody great jet engine to the back of his car in America ???

He has a point tho. I'm guessing the people who know most about the cars are the people who made them, or an in-house development team (Alpina, M-tech, AMG, Abarth etc), so I'd leave the cars as they produced em.

Altho I could be tempted by the 107bhp Turbo Conversion for the Cinquecento Sporting. But thats just cos that would be funny (not to mention dangerous).

Have to agree.

Not many cars will take anything more than subtle customisation without looking like a total dog's dinner (VW advert anyone?).

Funnily enough, despite being an avid customiser of my motorbikes (in my youth!), I never really felt the need to do anything to my cars (ok...I bought some nice mats ;)).

The current fleet of transport at chez sowat consists of:
New style Mondeo Zetec (Mine)
Renault Clio ('er indoors)
Ford Focus (eldest daughter)
Some bloody ancient 60s scooter (the lad)

None of the above would look anything but ridiculous with custom parts (except maybe the scooter which would look nice in a pale yellow skip).

BTW love the sig Bodhi

Sowat, Bods and Stu are all correct. Modding cars is for kids that blatently don't have the means to buy a proffessional performance car, and hence have to eek every last foal out of their engines at the detriment to the hearing of every poor bastard they pass with thier baked bean tin can exhausts et al.

I might have modded up my pug (engine only) but I was 18 at the time. Young and foolish.

I disagree I've had my car profesionaly set up for use on a race track and this is good fun when I get the chance to take it to one, I dont use it for work or poping down the shops as I have a company car for that .

Its a hobby and I wouldnt consider having a hobby childish at all .

Maybe sticking some neon lights under your car and a big bore exhaust then driving around your local town center with a boot full of speakers is what your aiming at :D

I think it is. And I'm gonna bitch now about people that always drive with the fog-lights on. You wankers, why? Fog lights are for fog, not for dazzling me on a normal, non-foggy night.

Thank you.

heh

well, ive done what ive done to me nova because its a laff, it looks better now than it ever did before, so im happy

and as for modding cars?

well, my next car i am intending to mod to use for track racing, to start off with, insane power for drag races, and then further on in the line proper track racing use...

do you think that all these touring cars that go belting it around tracks are standard in ANY way?

i think not...

i agree when you talk about "half hearted" modding... for instance a 1.2 nova with K&N and a backbox, yet with rust falling out everywhere...

As of yet i havent put any bodykits or any extra body bits onto my nova apart from spraying over crappy faded bumpers and vinyl crap.

and meshed front, forgot to say about that...

did that for a reason thogh, cooling

definatly improves airflow to the radiator

These cars have serious money spent on them, not chump change ;)

A pulsar gtir is not far from the original track used car the difference is in the traction control the track version used a very expensive electronic version where the road one has lots of diff's .

Engine is the same but running slightly less boost, the chassi is the same with strengthening bars and even all the sump and transmition guards are all fitted .

Indeed.

The only similarity between the cars you can buy in showrooms and the ones they use in touring cars is the bodyshell. And that's it.

Yeah but it aint your place to opinionate or tell others what their tastes should be. If they like doing what they do to their cars, let 'em. No point slagging 'em off 24/7 when they could do the same to you and you'd be nuff pished off :)

Each to their own etc... only reason I'm posting in this thread against plonkers like bodhi (j/k m8 :)) is cuz if they is speakin' tosh, then I will put 'em straight.

Frankie :)

>>well, ive done what ive done to me nova because its a laff, it looks better now than it ever did before, so im happy

it looks worse now, it's a bit of a pants colour IMO so the black bits (or grey) were a decent contrast.

>>well, my next car i am intending to mod to use for track racing, to start off with, insane power for drag races, and then further on in the line proper track racing use...

I think you better start saving m8?!?!?! haha

>>i agree when you talk about "half hearted" modding... for instance a 1.2 nova with K&N and a backbox, yet with rust falling out everywhere...

Tell me what engine mods you've done to your car and tell me bout all the filler you've used :)

I wouldn't normally argue against you but even you're speakin' arse and contradicting yourself now :D
