General problem with superhero stuff.

I've noticed recently that superheroes only seem to face problems that are somewhat, if not completely, fitting their powers.

Seems like every superhero thing is just a massive plot device.

It's either something that their powers are perfect against, OR someone has perfect powers to take them out.

Or, is it because superheroes only go to situations that their powers can handle?

Ofcourse we shouldn't include the obvious giant plot devices like superman, who seems to abuse holes in the superhero contract like glitter abuses holes in...well you get the point :p

I dunno, probably just making nothing out of nothing ;)

Which is why Superman was better when he could only jump a long way rather than fly around and zap people with his eyes.

Wolverine and Magneto on Avalon case in point I guess. It was a pretty inevitable storyline.

Gambit is also a bit shit "mon cher"

What? :m00:

cometh the hour cometh the man? :p

and couldnt you argue that each situation might develop differently depending on which superhero tackles the problem?

also different "levels" of superevilness exist too! i mean, some of the villains batman tackles, arent really "super" evil, they are just a bit crazy, compared to genetically modified loons that the hulk beats up :p

think you're over-analysing it

the bad guy does some bad stuff
the superhero is put out of action for a while / captured / his girl is kidnapped
or the superhero has to break out of some internal conflict (Superman 3)
then there's Ye Olde Big Fight at the end
and the bad guy loses

Well it's not much fun if you don't over-analyze it, kinda removes the point of the haha in making sense of fiction :p

But in any case, it's a bit soddy storytelling and it's around a bit too much.

I think I prefer perfectly designed plots utilizing their powers compared to ridiculous ones like how Wolverine survived a nuclear bomb because his adamantium skeleton protected his brain and he regenerated from that.

Well that's another pet peeve of mine, using superpowers like they were Mister Fantastic, stretching te content more then the inside of Mrs Hiltons panties.

"I'm Mr Bebo. I can fart fire."

Fine enough.

Then after a while;

"But because i can fart fire, i can also ignite the earths atmosphere by forcing enough methane into it."

And so on.

I think watchmen had it pretty nicely done(although i don't agree with all the praise), since limitations were there and still it worked.

Maybe comics need more realism, as funny as it sounds :p

Superman's takes the biscuit. He has one weakness, when this weakness is used against him he survives anyway so basically he is immortal and can do anything. What's the point ?

They did kill him once.

Oh and batman gave him a nice little beating(as one should) with kryptogloves :D

I think the major weakness with superfluffy is that he was the original twinky, such a pansy that it makes even hardcore drag queens go "That's gay."

Not in a gay way, but in an angsty "Oh no i can't, i just want to be human" way.

killing someone and bringing them back to life is the world's biggest cop-out

*watches some Supernatural*

Well it's a prim example, but they do manage to make it work. Somewhat. Well, anyway :p

Bringing someone back is so regular these days that it's like two major character forming a love interest.

well, a superhero is almost by definition a caricature of Deus Ex Machina so it's not surprising that their experiences work with the skills. A comic about a superhero who could only fight crime underwater would not work if it was set in Salt Lake City for example.

It's more about what will sell comics I guess (or movie adaptations)
