Where I said "If we'd left them to their own devices" I meant, If we'd never taken the children from their families in the first place. Got that bit? Now where I finished with "they certainly wouldn't be any worse off than they are now." I meant that they would NOT be any worse off than they are today. This means that there is every possibility that this experiment did have a negative effect on the social direction the population has taken.

FWIW don't believe everything you read in the papers.
There was a lot of agitation leading up to this incident. Gang members from the Muslim community were attacking Australians, sometimes robbing them, sometimes just for the sport of intimidation. They were specifically targeting White Australians, though tourists also fell to their members. These attacks led to the demonstration, where fuelled by alcohol, some dickheads decided to take out their frustrations on a man who appeared to be of Middle Eastern origin. This in turn brought revenge attacks by the gangs.
Yes it was ugly, yes it was unnecessary and yes it did nothing to ease tensions. The bottom line though is that it wasn't gangs of Australians committing the original offences. If these members of what is predominantly the Lebanese immigrant community had elected to lead productive lives instead of criminal ones, they event would have never taken place.
That of course does not excuse the actions of the wankers involved in the protest who decided it would be an appropriate course of action to attack what could well have been a perfectly innocent person.

I have indeed heartily invited him to knock himself the fuck out with regard to finding dirt on me I'd be intimidated by. I've not always led a good life. In fact I was somewhat of a ****, and I make no apologies or excuses for it.
I may well be a completely different person now, largely due to the influence of my good wife, but I did what I did. Because I am up front about it, nobody will be able to hold it over me.

All I have done is point out the facts.
Both parties hold some of the blame.
The fact remains that if it was not for the criminal element precipitating events, the protest that led to the riots would not have been deemed necessary.

I was speaking generally, but thanks for your answer. The reason I am confused, is that you and your mates seem to be harping on about freedom, and the perceived lack thereof in the UK/Euroland.

Without judging anything, it seems to me that the person you all consider to be a complete nutbag was using some of his freedom to look up information about you fellows that is freely accessible, and then using some more freedom to tell people about that information.

Ofc, I don't particularly care what that information is, or the possible malicious intent with which it was made public, only that you (generally) seem to make it clear that some freedom is better than other freedom and certain freedoms can be painful, depending on one's viewpoint. I suppose that it's more a matter of perspective than thought of initially.

He was tolerated until he targeted one of our members specifically and sent emails designed specifically to have a negative impact on their lives and careers to people they were acquainted with. That was the final straw for us, and that's what led to his ban.

What if he copied a link to a very unflattering post you made here into an email to your work supervisor? That's what he did to one of our members. He also started spamming my personal email. After he was banned he tried to hack practically all of the member's accounts. He has tried (unsuccessfully, so far) to smear our admins name on the internet and in his community.

He is one sick fucker with A LOT of time on his hands. He once sued a call-in radio talkshow fo refusing to accept his calls. -AND WON! He is best nipped directly in the bud

One thing i love that we have sorted more than you guys, no offense, is our humour at a bad situation. We joke about something horrific within hours for example the 7/7 bombings (which i was 15 mins clear of when the warren street one went off) we were joking about right away as a nation cause its how we deal with it.
