I'll be taking pictures with this today: http://whitemetal.com/pentax/sp_f/sp_f_info.htm

It's my dad's, purchased in 1973 (ish), around £600 at the time he thinks, his brother bought a Nikon at the same time for a grand. Take inflation into account, and that is a hell of a lot of cash.

As my lovely Holga is not in the house anymore :(

check the manual, http://www.cameramanuals.org/pentax_pdf/pentax_spotmatic_f.pdf

I've got to get it repaired though, as the battery leaked and corroded the contacts, so the auto metering does not work. Still it's fine for manual use. Shame my dad got the Jap version which only had a 50mm 1.8 lens as standard, rather than the US version with a 50mm 1.4. On the plus side, he has got a 150mm zoom and a 28mm wide angle lens too.

G, I don't know if you're a member on the potn forums but have you *seen* the amount of threads about the 1dx. It's probably worse because it's a Canon only forum but literally dozens of people "umming and ahhing" about whether they are going to "pull the trigger" and pre-order one. Tbh nikonians is probably just as bad when they announce something.

I still have a couple of Pentax lenses including a Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7.

It's a great format, but Pentax need to get a finger out with some of their lens lineups.

Yep. I like film shots but I'm not going to go out of my way to get some sort of stone age camera.

this is the last camera I used in anger, a Nikon FM-2 with a motor winder

Nikon_FM2_7505271_1.jpg

my fave lens for it was the 105/1.8 that I picked up at a 2nd hand camera fair. the casing was a little scuffed, but that took it nicely within my student budget. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/105f18.htm

I traded all my gubbins in for a Sony point and click thing. Not one of my best choices :(

I never thought about using it to fill out panos like that, I'll give that a go later. :)

On the camera? It's nice enough. Not worth an upgrade personally as I don't need the speed, the zillion focal points or the auto-stitch facility.

Hmm, quite a specialist camera; more suited to fast action sports than anything else. Would actually take a 7D body over this unless I absolutely needed the 10 fps and associated autofocus points.

If it was a 1Ds mk3 for that price I would bite his hand off.

New Canon EOS video cameras being announced today, the 300C apparently...

What would you guys think is a good price for a 2nd hand 50d?

No idea tbh, depends on condition, number of shutter clicks. There's one for £499.99 here which I would've thought is a very high price considering a new 600D is £549 and a 60D is £769. I guess that 2nd hand 50D is not very used.

If you're happy with 10 mp and lack of video, then fair enough. 10mp is a little low for some of the prints I've done of late, so it's not much use for me.
