Trying to get back into working out after 3 weeks off for surgery including 3 weeks of pretty much complete inactivity = pain and disappointment.

Still, back on the horse :) Was meant to leave it longer, but I seem to be intact \o/

Not bad, a 20 mile ride and no pain in the foot. Need to keep building.

first gym after three weeks of preparing for, being in and recovering from Iceland. I went hard and feel like I've been hit with big sticks. Also I did 100 crunches. 100! only 900 more and I am Patrick Bateman!

I'm starting to enjoy P90X now :p The only thing I fear are single legged wall squats and the "Plyometrics" workout.

I also suck donkey balls at doing pull ups. I can barely do one without using a chair. I'm hoping to be able to do 8 without a chair by the end of it.

You'll get there for sure ileks, trust in the program. I could do 4 pull ups in the test before starting, I'm just about to repeat week 4 (had too many work issues this last week, so it's going to be p97x for me this time around) and I can now do 10, probably more if that was all I was going to do that session.

I've really enjoyed it. Insanity for me next, although I'm going to wait a few weeks for my other half to catch up before starting it together. In the meantime I'll do plyo with her on plyo days, Yoga on Yoga days, and pick a weights workout at random, or do a Spartacus routine or something on other days. Probably for 5 days a week. If I go 2 days now without working out, I get really itchy.

In the first week I had to take time off since my arms were aching so badly. With Christmas and stuff coming up it will probably be P97X for me as well :)

Why are you doing Insanity and not another round of P90X or P90X2 BTW?

Another round of P90x would be too boring straight after for me. I'm not strong enough to get the best out of P90X2, and I really really fancy a blast of super intense cardio. After that I'm leaning to an Insanity/p90x hybrid, but that's going to be next Marchish, so my plans might change. Insanity next though!

I'm about to repeat week 10 by the way, not week 4, I don't know what I was thinking earlier..

What's the P90X/2 routine like?

To be fair, I'm more interested in the nutrition than anything else as that's where I suffer the most.

The routines are great. It's a balance between upper/lower body resistance training and cardio. You will need dumbbells and a pull up bar. You might also want a yoga mat and resistance bands instead of dumbbells.

It comes with a fairly comprehensive nutritional guide. It even gives you recipes for each day if you want them. I've just been using it as a guide though and sticking to the carb/protein/fat balance they recommend.

There are literally thousands of before and after pictures online you can have a look at. Every review I've seen says if you stick with it you will see amazing results.

I used to use this one and it worked great for pull ups: http://www.amazon.co.uk/JML-Iron-Gym-Original-Workout/dp/B002GHBRWA/ref=tag_stp_s2_edpp_url

If I had a compatible doorframe (as I gave the above away to a friend) then I'd probably get this now as it looks pretty good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Powerbar-Pull-Up-chinning-bar/dp/B00140TJ0M/ref=tag_stp_s2_edpp_url

Pull Ups are a great compound exercise. One of the best, as they do your whole back, plus shoulders and arms and some core.

They're fecking hard at first but keep working them into your work out for your back and pushing yourself and eventually you'll improve. They're far better than any machine, e.g. lat pull down or weighted rows. If you can, do them !

Just get the Boots Own brand multivitamins - you don't need all that other stuff if you have a decent diet, and all the different brands are basically a con.

A lot of it is just the same as Ibuprofen versus Neurofen - identical in every single way, but some people will still want to pay an extra £2 a go for Neurofen because it's branded.

I was wondering if anyone has a daily intake of vitamins from tablets

Why waste your cash? IIRC the science shows that the body doesn't properly absorb fake vitamins so taking them is a waste of time - like homeopathy.

Eat loads of fruit and veg instead.

I have multivitamins every day, but I am bad at eating veg and only really eat bananas and dried fruit.

I have been doing the Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. I do 5 days on and one day off, but find my knee always hurts a bit afterwards. I try and be careful with technique, but as soon as I do something like a jumping jack it feels like it aggravates it.
I am now on Level 2 so it's different exercises, but I still find my knee is a bit sore. It's on the left knee on the left side, so facing away from me.

I tried waiting 3 days for it to recover but it still didn't feel 100%. Is there anything I can do?

Go see your doctor. You may have slight ligament damage. If that's the case then 3 days ain't gonna cut it. Not one bit. And ligaments are not to be trifled with - trust me :(

Thought I'd sorted a posterior cruciate injury I picked up in May. Did a 40 and 35 mile bikes ride this weekend and the back of my knee is reminding me to stop overdoing it.

The two 35-mile real-ale and mountain combo-rides I'm doing this weekend will be taken at a very very slow pace ;)

He'd probably tell you to do that anyway and give you some ibuprofen. Still, if it was me I'd go check incase it was more serious

This. They'd give it a couple of weeks (2-4) before doing anything other than pain relief and rest/avoid aggravating activities but keep exercising. There's not a lot they can do to see if its more serious provided you've not done a cruciate other than see if it doesn't get better.

If you feel around the knee, look in to the knee, don't look around the knee, look in to the knee..you're under and you think anything feels not round, compare it to the other one then it's probably fucked up.

Took 95 in Bench Press last friday!

Will try 97.5 this Friday, suddenly my goal of 100 before middle of December almost seems to be in reach :)

Sets and reps? :) Nice one  Do it !

I *just* reached 100 right before a back injury and Finals ruined my dreams of nailing it. Finally getting back into the gym and it's a long way away now !
