In a bid to lose some weight for going on holiday (October) I've started running, bought some running shoes but that's my only investment into it so not spending money as I would going to a gym suits my finances :)p). My question is, currently I'm managing to run 1.5-2miles every other day in around 15-20mins. I warm up and down after each run and usually soak in the bath after as well if time permits. I have no joint pain or anything, but have a history of bad knees (skateboarding for years and years) and bad hips in the family.

Is there anything I can do that is equally cheap that has less stress on my joints? Is this even the best way to simply lose weight? I'm quite big framed and have no interest in building muscle, I'm also not fat anywhere except for my belly. I can save and buy something like an indoor bike, but I can't actually ride a bike (I know!) so buying a proper bike is out of the question.

Any input appreciated!

Learn to ride a bike! My dad has a history of bad knees from playing sports and can't run so cycling and swimming is about all he can do. I've tried getting into running but its so boring, and I find cycling so much more rewarding and often set out with the intention of just doing a quick ride but stay out for hours because it's so enjoyable.

Yeah boredom is an issue for me too, going to try listening to audio books while I exercise! Learning to ride a bike is a possibility I suppose, but I'm kinda embarrassed ha.

I've got a similar problem with one of my knees eks, didn't really know I had much of a problem until I fucked it a bit training for a half marathon. I'd consider running on grass from time to time, it's a lot softer so will be a lot less pressure on your knees. Plus once you've ran on grass for a while it makes concrete running an absolute breeze :p

Second hand bike. Learn. It's piss easy.

I got back into biking by buying one off a mate for £90 quid. Do it.

If you have knee problems and a history of family joint problems don't be daft enough to run - but don't be daft enough to not exercise. Biking for the win m8.

If I'm too pig-headed to learn to ride a bike properly, would one of those insidey stationary ones be worthwhile? I can watch my stories (hurr durr) while I do it then.

I'm considering getting a bike like, running just does not seem like a good idea at all for me any more, which is a shame cause I really enjoy it.

Only problem being a don't know shit about bikes, wouldn't know what to look for/what not to look for.

You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours, I'd recommend one of these:

Careful with images like that, Cameron will have you in lock up before you can say 'like a rat up a drain'.

No. You'll not use it. They only look similar.

The thing about a bike is that you'll see cool shit and you'll be 5 or 6 miles from home before you decide to turn back. Then you'll be knackered and well-exercised when you get home - and feel good for it.

When you exercise on an in-home exercise bike you get knackered and stop - because you think you "can't possibly carry on". But you can. And a real bike makes you.

Plus - watching shows when you're absolutely heaving for breath, sweating into your eyes, panting is fucking shit and you won't enjoy it.

It's *piss easy* to learn. My missus had to. Took her about two or three hours and she'd not been on a bike since she was 6.

Only problem being a don't know shit about bikes

Get ye down to Decathlon and buy something. In terms of bikes more expensive is absolutely better. But having *a* bike, as opposed to no bike, is a bazillion pounds better.

The only thing I'd recommend is get one that's the correct size. And that's easy to do (roughly) too - basically when you're sat on your seat with your pedals at the bottom of the stroke you need your leg to be *almost* straight - not ever actually straight - but almost. (You pedal with the balls of your feet - not the centre).

Also - don't buy a gel-pad seat if you want your cock to work. Try a few different types - but get a reasonably hard one. Your ass will hurt for a couple of weeks. But that'll stop quickly. Man up and take it, bitches ;)

Sure, why not. Been hovering around 9st as long as I can remember. Won't hurt, and may even help with my lifts.

Eat a fuckload of steak instead. Protein, protein, protein. Lambs, chickens, ostriches, kangarooz, all the woodland animals.

Eat it with a load of potatoes, and pasta, and all the good stuff. Just don't overload on fat, if you want to build muscle...

Fat looks shit - lean and defined muscle is the way to go...

Edit: I've just had a good proper look at that website - it's peddling shit. And scientifically worthless shit at that...

1g protein per pound of lean weight.
2g carb per pound of lean weight.

If you have fat you can reduce the carb intake

Problem being all that meat is a shit tonne more expensive than a gallon of milk here and there.

If you can't afford to do anything in life (which isn't a necessity) properly, don't do it.
