Get on the pooter tonight and sign up for something. I found myself keep saying that I want to do something, and then remembering that I hadn't when I saw the results. Now I've signed up for one I have to train, I am going to do it and I can't wait. Dooooo itttt!!!!
How much training do you plan of having done by the time the course comes?

Oh and as I've mentioned, I'm doing the Great North Run again this year. I'm running for St. Oswald's Hospice, if any of you lot could sponsor me (again ;)) that'd be great. :)

Just bought some new running headphones, yurbuds. Seems to have good reviews. I get sweat in my ear sometimes so something that has a bit of moisture protection should work better then the sennheiser ones I have atm, one ear has started crackling a lot when it gets to a certain amount of volume, guessing it's to do with the seat. Pretty cheap on amazon! :) Wonder if they'll stay in my ear though.

Should be about 10 weeks, running 3 times per week with a bit of other fitness thrown in. I'm pretty fit, 60 press ups, 10 pullups, an hour of intense cardio etc is pretty regular, I'm just not a runner, so the running training is really to condition my joints to cope. If I keep to the schedule then this couch to 5k program should finish on Oct 14th giving me a fortnight before the event to maintain. I'm not looking for any kind of competitive result, I'd just like to get round the course respectably.

In preperation for the spartan run I ran in the pouring rain, across fields with cow pat aplenty, jumped over 2 fences, one of which had barbed wire and a pole to hold it up that wasn't very sturdy, and a ditch that was full of water. Even got to the beach and found some sand to get stuck in. Nearly died.

I'm running on rough tracks which will become a bit slick when we finally get some rain in these parts. I'm very lucky in that I can get on a footpath about 20 metres from my front door and then stay off road for as long as I want, with the odd 50 metre road section occasionally. the Farmers around here are encouraged to leave wide field margins and get an extra subsidy if they then allow these to be used by walkers/runners. A brilliant initiative which opens up the countryside massively.

I'm hoping my good overall strength and decent agility will help me with the obstacles. The race is basically around the cross country course of a 3 day event thing so lots of big steps to climb up, huge logs to climb over etc. not so much monkey bars and walls like you might see on a tough mudder or a race like that.

So i'm getting to the stage where i'm doing 10k on a cross trainer with ease. But trying to mix it up by doing at least 1 hour of exercise per day. I'll do 30m cardio then bodyweight / weight exercises.

It's nice not to feel exhausted all the time, it's really improving my attention span, worth ethic and feeling much more awake throughout the day rather than being a zombie.

Soon I think i'll be heading to the gym, I need to do some weight to get some strength back in my legs at the very least!

So I completed my second half marathon this year in 2:08:21, bit slower than last year. Granted, I was just keeping pace with a mate I was running with a done many months less training for it, still pleased with the time, I wasn't even tired by the end :D

Also raised around £170 for St. Oswalds Hospice in the process. :)

Great job, toying with entering a half marathon at the end of Nov. I'd be woefully underprepared having only started running in August. Do you have a justgiving link or something?

I can't speak for any other half marathons but the atmosphere at the Great North Run is incredible, I love doing it. If it's any consolation I only started training properly in August, the extra few months will help you massively.

And I certainly do man :) http://www.justgiving.com/billynursegnr

Nicely done Billargh.

Also did my first half marathon today in 2hr 22 minute, would have been better had I actually used a knee brace and wore shoes that weren't Vans (not the motor vehicle type.. ziiing). Legs are dying as it stands, work tomorrow is going to be a killer.

If anyone fancies can chuck our work link in for donations, you also get to see a sexy picture of me on a beach (swooning included).

Going well. Don't think I've ever actually managed the full 4.54 litres (8 pints) in a day, but I drink as much as I can in addition to the regular protein rich, clean diet.
Have put on about 5kg in weight and my lift numbers keep going up, so it seems to be doing the job.

Update!

Sheesh it's only been a few weeks! Only put on 1kg in weight. Have been slacking a little bit with the milk, but still get through about 2l whole milk per day. Usually getting the protein/creatine supplements away though.

Meh. If true it's probably all the exercise ;)

You do realise that cholesterol consumption has nothing to do with levels of cholesterol in the blood right? Cholesterol in the blood has been manufactured by the body - its an essential component the body needs - even if you ate a zero cholesterol diet your body would still manufacture it.

Idd, everyone I've seen post before/afters on keto have had ldl go down hdl go up and trigs go down.

The myth that fat in diet clogs arteries is just that.
Heart specialists pretty much now believe that inflammation is the cause of plaqueing that causes heart disease, nothing to do w/ fats.

Same w/ alzheimers actually, inflammation > plaqueing.

Additionally insulin imbalances caused by carbs and trans fats (found in processed food and partially hydrogenated oils£ . Good dietary fats are not bad for you!

Legs are sore. Been out on a couple of rides recently where I basically try to keep up with a slightly less fit guy on a road bike, whilst I ride my MTB.

Got a flat with 6 miles to go yesterday. Had to push really hard to get back fast enough. Ouch.

Anyway - where's Wazzerphuk? WAAAAAAAZ?! How's yer *everything*?

Decided cardio was shit 5 months ago.
Started skipping (not like a little girl..) today. Lasted about 10 minutes before I nearly blacked out. Sweating like a horse. Use to take 35m or so on the X-Trainer to feel like this.

Sign of things to come I hope.

I did this just now apparently(running)
MI
132.70 (I ran from Leicester to Essex)
DURATION
22m:51s
AVERAGE PACE
0:10s
CALORIES BURNED
332(lol)

The GPS wasn't working at the start which was odd, I had enough of trying to fiddle around with it to get it to work so just started going and then it went batshitcrazy. The lady telling me "Time 15 minutes, distance 130 point 9 2 miles. Average pace. 9 seconds per mile. hehe :D

Started swimming training this week, managed a whole 75m continuous. Need to train up to 3km, going to be a long journey! After running 2 marathons this year I thought my aerobic capacity would be better than it was.
