because with my shoulder as fucked as it is I may not be allowed to ride in the woods again, so I assume the worst. :(

however, if shoulder becomes un-fucked I will buy a Pipedream Skookum frame and build it up single speed :-D

oh, I don't doubt I'll be well again: in fact I am already allowed to bike on the road (with the road bike). the ortho surgeon doesn't want me taking any risks atm.
as per three weeks ago the bones were still *very* broken. I have to go back to hospital in mid September to find out if I am a slow healer, or if there is another problem.

point being that if I am a "slow" healer they could still opt to operate on me, whereas if there are complications causing me to not heal then they will most likely play it by ear and not operate. the latter because drilling a bone screw in to my shoulder will a) mess up the little bits of broken bone in my shoulder further (which will have to heal) and b) if I am not healing / there are complications then the screw in my bones will work it's way loose and cause all kinds of mayhem (mechanical issues and such, the bone parts moving and such).

so. basicaly unhappy-face until mid september.

I found out that a gentle 35 mile ride is perfectly doable in flip-flops - which means I can now work on getting rid of my "white socks" tan-lines ;)

cheers blud. first bit was awesome, last bit was a sea of pain and getting overtaken by old ladies and such. also, I almost got pushed off a cycle path by a very fat lady in an electric scooter who suddenly swerved out of the way of a large dog egg that someone had kindly let their dog lay on the path. I'd belled her and she knew I was there but she litterally swerved in to me when I was next to her. lol occupational hazard I guess 0o

good man! tbh a bit of a bite and plenty to drink all through the ride keeps one a happy bunny. myself I normally have a light snack every 25km / 1 hour of cycling...except. when. I. forget. to. bring. delicious. foods

legs felt a bit dodgy today, and have some light cycling planned for Wednesday evening...35~40km or thereabouts :)

been 3 weeks (maybe4) since I started at the gym, and I can now do a small weights session, followed by a 30 min run and then a 30 min interval session on the bike; which is pretty good since I thought it would take longer.

What I realised was that I use gel soles since I'm on the feet all day working, but it's only walking and when I was running they were moving about and causing my left foot to ache; bought some new ones which you cut down to the size of your shoe and hey presto I can run.

After having some time away from my weight obsession and having a really bad reaction to something I ate I decided to go back to lchf. Not to lose any more weight as it has been stable since April and 6 kgs lower that when I stopped my vlcd last November but because it makes me feel so much better. Day 3 and loving it, I am waking up with energy again, sleeping better and most importantly not feeling bloated, nauseas and in pain. :)

Signed up to do a 10k Mud Run. It's set at an equestrian eventing centre and involves running 10k whilst going over/under/through the horse obstacles together with a freezing river run and a few other obstacles. It's on Oct 27th. Better set about learning to run then...

Week 1 of couch to 5k finished yesterday. Cardio Vasucularly, and muscurlarly(?) It has been very easy. I've recently done p90x, Insanity and a month of T25 thought so I'm not in awful shape. Ankles and knees are feeling it a bit which is why a programme like couch to 5k seemed a good thing to do I guess. I seem to be doing the run parts at a pretty good pace and covering around 4k despite only running for 8 minutes in a 28 minute workout. I'm getting frustrated with only 3 workouts a week already though, so I'm going to have to throw in a row, a cycle or some weights in there. I get grumpy when I don't workout now.

I was the same with the couch to 5k --> only 3 workouts, so after about 2-3 weeks I started doing small weight sessions mon-wed-fri..followed by cardio; but I also went tues/thurs and did just running and biking.

A mate has seen some amazing progress recently with low heart rate aerobic training. Keeping the heart rate down at about 150BPM, and over time his pace has crept back up to what it used to be at about 175BPM. Obviously now it feels much easier, he can go for longer, has less of an injury risk, and is more available for other activities.

I've just started giving it a bash myself. Mainly because I don't want tough anaerobic running sessions that knacker me out and kill my legs to interfere with the strength training stuff. Anyone else tried this sort of thing before?

I find I get a sore back if I do running and heavy weight work (squats, deadlifts etc) on alternate days. I really do need the full 2 days rest.

Ah I don't do heavy stuff really. Resistance training would probably have been a more accurate description with plenty of body weight stuff in there, pull ups, push ups etc. dumbbell exercises like shoulder presses and curls would likely be the limit for the weights mostly so that I don't lose all my upper body strength while doing running work for this one event.

Oh yeah when I say small weight sessions that exactly what it is, I'm not going mad as a) I'm not going for bigger guns :p b) I try to save energy for running. Although now I'm capable to do more running and biking I may switch my days to fit in another rest day during the week.

How is GOMAD going?

Going well. Don't think I've ever actually managed the full 4.54 litres (8 pints) in a day, but I drink as much as I can in addition to the regular protein rich, clean diet.
Have put on about 5kg in weight and my lift numbers keep going up, so it seems to be doing the job.

I would absolutely love to do something like that, definitely on my agenda over a half marathon next year!

Get on the pooter tonight and sign up for something. I found myself keep saying that I want to do something, and then remembering that I hadn't when I saw the results. Now I've signed up for one I have to train, I am going to do it and I can't wait. Dooooo itttt!!!!
