Drastic calorie reduction action during inactivity m8. But plenty of milk for your rubbish bones. :)

I don't really like plain milk but I eat cheese and other dairy, not to mention cappuccino and latte. Also at least two eggs per day. There's plenty of calcium (I hope)!

also...as per Sunday I hit 83.5 KG. 3.6 kg till goal :D

I've been slacking for the past month or so :(

Keep up your cardio old bean. It's a nice feeling to be fit and I'd hate to lose that.

I'm averaging about 50 miles a week on the bike (100 in April). Feels like a helluva lot more but then it's generally not road miles - there's a fair bit of hilly off-road stuff around here and plenty of reasonably well maintained paths. Been to Whinlatter and Coed-y-Brenin in the last couple of weeks and been blatting about Nottingham like nobodies business.

I'm lovin' my new bike TdC ;)

I'll might make an entrance in this thread, two years of no training and rubbish food has done it's mark.

Do it Zen. I feel much better on this 5/2 diet. I'm not even losing much weight any more (I don't think - I rarely weigh myself) as I've been barbecuing like a monster (just had my 4th in as many days) and out most weekends - but I'm fitter, sharper and all-round feeling better.

Apart from the fuckloads of sunburn I've picked up in the last couple of days that is :)

I use Strava for my biking. Going to hospital on Tuesday to hear what they're going to do to me for my shoulder. Weight wise, I am currently at 82.5 kg, or 5.5kg away from goal :D

So after almost a two week break from weightlifting the first thing I do is a 90kg deadlift (as opposed to my usual 100kg due to the break) and pull my lower back. By first thing I mean literally first thing, no warm up of any sort other than the 2minute walk there.

Really really stupid, just thought I'd share my embarrassment as a reminder to all to properly warm up before you work out. I certainly will be sure to do so every time in the future :p luckily wasn't too serious, just be out of action as far as back work goes for a week or two now

Did Couch-5k last year to get me started with running. Worked flawlessly and I'm still going out 3x week now, very happy with it.
Currently doing the Starting Strength program, after having faffed around with dumbbells/calisthenics for years. It's basically a structured introduction to the big lifts, progressively loading higher weights every workout.
Progress has been solid but slightly under par. Mainly because I can't bring myself to eat as much as the program demands, and I still do other workouts like mountain biking and running every other day, so am not 100% committed to it. I weigh 61kg so have never been keen on piling on weight.
Taking the example of Afran's deadlift above, back in May mine started at 65kg. Just upping it by 5kg or so every workout it's up to 115kg now.
Similarly, bench press started at 47kg. Smaller increments and not so frequent, but is climbing up. Just passed 65kg. Have a long way to go before I catch up with Lethul tho!

When I started I was about 13.5 stone. I am now down to 12.25. I am 5'10 or 5'11 so I still have a little belly haha! I did interval style training which was really good, plus ate healthier. I found once you use Myfitnesspal you realise what foods are really bad so making the healthier change is easy.

I'm now going to start weight training as I want to build some muscle. Day 1 today whoop whoop!

I'm still 85kg but I've lost fat and added muscle /rawr.

I'm 189lb at the mo, with my 4th goal of 185 taunting me :p

From 40" that were getting to small to 32"

Since I've finished college I've got 2 months of more free time figured I'd try get fit and maybe try football again, since I haven't played in 5 years and it would be interesting to see what type of team a uni can put together.

Anyway since I'm a gamer and I've had a few hospitals visits along with not exercising for 5 years I have lost all fitness, joined a gym and I've been twice so far; first time on Friday I had an induction and did a session I actually felt like I had an upset stomach for most of the day after lol since I didn't know my limits.

Went again and I'm generally fine with some weights and then cardio, what messes me up though is running. Everything aches after 5 mins, literally it would be my foot, knee and my lower back or a shoulder blade. I've worked for Tesco for ages and I used to walk an hour plus to work before long shifts so walking is fine its just running, guessing my body isn't used to it. I had to do walking and running as too long and something would flare up quite painfully, I could run longer without the aches; as I used the bike after which was fine and walked home to.

READ HERE: Any runners could tell me if this is normal for people who haven't exercised in a while, just getting all these small niggles flaring up :0

I dunno Madmaxx - I avoid running like the plague (I had my ankles rebuilt a few years back). You hear stories of long-term runners doing bad things to themselves.

'tis why I cycle. It's all the aerobic benefit of running, plus you get to see a whole lot more and none of the bone-pounding drawbacks.

Weighed myself at my mates the other day. At 6'2"+ I'm now 180lbs. I would like to lose about another stone and a bit (11.5 is my target) and may just go nuts on a starvation diet this month and do it.

The 5/2 diet is still going well. Me and the bird don't really notice it any more. I could happily do 4 fast days a week for a month I reckon - or at least severely restrict the calories on two additional days (say <1000 for two days and <600 for the fast days) - which would give me breathing space for a couple of pints :)

Went up Snowdon this on Sat then went swimming in the sea on Anglesey, then on Sunday went to Coed-y-Brenin again for some hot MTB action. The biking isn't doing me any harm - but the Snowdon walk means that my legs are still hurting even this evening!

Really going to have to do some upper body stuff too. Maybe just situps / pressups, but I have motivational issues with them and wouldn't really know where to start.

The good thing with biking is that if you're 30 miles away from home at a pub, there's no dodging the ride back, no matter how sore your ass is :)

I started running a couple of months back and the first few weeks were hell. Even after extensive stretching before the run my achilles in particular would really start to ache. It's way better now, I think it just takes getting used to.

When did you weigh yourself? If it wasn't first thing in the morning it isn't your true weight.
eg I weigh 188 in the morning, mid afternoon-evening I'll be as high as 193-194.

Also I hate you for being able to cut like that :p
I'm 6'3" and struggling to cut at 188 atm.

It'll have been the afternoon, but I was on a fast day so I wasn't full of food or poo :)

After a while I've found the 5/2 thing makes it really easy to not eat tbfh. Being hungry doesn't really bother me any more and I find I look forward to the fast days as they make me feel 'empty' and not all clogged up.

I ended up eating yesterday but then I did a 30 mile jaunt on the mountain bike so I don't feel too bad. Fast day today and other than a couple of cups of black Cardamom Chai I've eaten nowt. The weight comes off slowly now - if I didn't do any exercise I think I'd probably simply maintain the weight as I eat a little bit more than I should on non fast days - guilt free of course :)

Anyone got any advice on core strength and non-gym upper body workouts?

I need to do something with my upper body and I want to sort some back pain out (the last time I went to a gym there was a machine that you did a weight-lifting crunch type thing and then the reverse of it - which was great in terms of back strengthening - but I *hate* gyms).

I don't hold out much hope tbfh - the only reason biking is succesful with me is that I can ride 30 miles to a pub, have something to eat and then I've still got to ride 30 miles back, like it or not. Exercising at home bores the living shit out of me and that's why I've never stuck with it. I doubt I could do ten situps or pressups!

But it's gotta change. *Must* find something. :(
