EA shut down game servers for games that were released in 2011. Hell one released in 2012 even :/

As for you not using lan great, congrats you don't play games socially on the pc - and you don't care about people who don't have access to internet, or only shitty internet. Keep rimming that Blizzard asshole, when you apply for a job there you can say I WAS A DICK TO PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET FOR YOU and they'll like totally hire you on the spot for it.

What's that got to do with diablo 3 eca? :p I'm sure they've done that before though.

When they do this is there then no way at all to play online? No one can host servers, etc?

LOL you're a total fucking class A twat.

Look, for you people who moan about no LAN get over it, it's 2012 and it doesn't have a place anymore and yes i don't fucking care about twats who live in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales in their caravans who don't have the internet but are trying to play on their 3g mobile phone.

LAN always has a place tbh Aada :p LAN is still heaps of fun, when people go to LAN's what typically do they do? they play games via network and use the hosts net to download copious amounts of pornography, that's not to say they won't play online :p sure they will, but fun can still be had with LAN as well.

Er...why can't you do that without LAN? You do realise you can connect more than one machine to a router....right?

Who the fuck cares about LAN these days?

But Diablo has always been a single player game, the majority of players will play this without ever interacting with someone, why should I need the internet in order to play it?

It's an easy feature to add and one that made the previous two games enjoyable as it enabled modding and different types of games rather then point-blank Diablo which got stale quite easily.

Again, you don't need a LAN to play with someone in the same room. You just need an internet connection.

If you don't like the way Diablo 3 works then you can go back to Diablo 2 (or whatever) I keep hearing it was so much better!

Didn't the singleplayer also help to cause the hacks etc?

Yes, hacks were rife with single player game. The best way to play was through battle.net closed chars. Surprise surprise, online only.

So the hackers ruined the online side of things?

How very fucking typical, i am so glad we don't have a singleplayer side.

Aye, basically, with closed bnet, all chars were online only.

On open bnet, you could play your single player chars. Single player chars that could have access to the various d2 editors around.

Yet there was still a hugely popular and vast community around.

Yes there was hacked character but so what? Every game is hacked to buggery, you played DAoC long enough to know that. The single player 'hacks' (more so editors) never made it battle.net. My question is that why is it that if I want a game on the train, do I have to be logged in to do so? This is what bugs and puts me off games, the accessability is pisspoor.

Sorry mate, some of us actually have a social life outside the internet and want to get together with friends over a weekend for some lan fun and drinking.

But i can understand if that feels alien to you...

Some people don't have an active internet connection available 24/7, y'know? - When I'm in London the only net connection I have is my 3G dongle, no need for the net whilst at I'm at home as no one else there needs it - But I do have a wireless router from my old BT days (So file sharing/LAN)...

What if 3 friends want to come around and play? Saying I fork out £20~ a month to play Diablo?

Just saying...

This could have been easily solved with an Online set of characters and a LAN set of characters.. it's really incredibly simple...

Blizzard did not make it online only because of hackers.

Thankfully there are still some game developers which don't only care about money.

They need to hotfix drop rates in now like the did with Co-op damage.
Word is going around that they have ninja nerfed drop rates in order to slow supply to RMAH...awful if true.

Sure if you go to a place that has an internet connection and where the ISP allows multiple outgoing connections from the same internet line (mine doesn't unless i pay extra).

But say you and a few mates are taking a week or two off at someones summer house out in the middle of nowhere, that's when LAN becomes important. Or should game companies dictate where i should be taking my vacation just because i want to play their game? Or pay by the minute and/or MB using a dodgy mobile connection that may or may not work out there in the middle of nowhere?

Yes there are ways around not having LAN, but no argument is good enough to say it's no longer needed. Because it doesn't take any effort to enable it, same with single player. They could easily have both that and a forced online mode that you could not use your SP characters on... Blizzard just refuse to because someone told them that this was the best way to deal with pirates, but it's not.

Wait, what? You can only connect 1 computer to your internet?

What about wifi phones, laptops, television equipment? Sorry but that sounds like a terrible service.

Not sure why you would want to play computer games on a holiday away either, horses for courses I suppose.

...

Anyway, its called modernisation, the vast majority of people have the internet and its a simple and pretty unobtrusive DRM feature, I would rather online only that some stupid shit that means I have to jump through hoops to play.

Your in the minority and the games companies will always panda to the majority its where they get their money from. They sold over 6 million in the first however many days you think that they really bothered by the 50k, 100k (guessing) people who didnt buy it because it had no LAN ?

Its not their fault you live in the middle of nowhere and it is your choice as to where you live.
