diablo3-no-pvp-1.jpg

Features: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/game/whats-new
Release: 15th May 2012

Surprised there is no recent thread of this, considering it's less than two months until release.

Played beta recently and the game is completely awesome. I got the same feeling as I did when playing D2 about 10 years ago. The combat is fluent and fun, the setting and story really keeps you immersed and content is going to keep me occupied a long time. 4 difficulty levels and hardcore mode in addition. Only drawback is no pvp system at launch, not even duelling.

Oh and the items.

There is one in offtopic.

Most people I know, who got into beta were over come with apathy. Getting it "free" via the Blizzard annual pass, so will give it a bash.

Got it preordered and got the week off its released! I never played Diablo or Diablo 2 so I gather its just like Torchlight?

How many times can you run through the game though before it gets old?

Depends on your boredom threshold. I never had any issues playing D2 over and over again and that only had the same maps rotated 4 times through 90 degrees. It will depend on whether you find the good item drops though.

I guess multiplayer is where the fun is going through on higher difficulties and getting itemz?

Shame they've pretty much fucked Hardcore over tho, loved playing HC on D2 :< with the real money auction house I doubt many will play HC because you can't sell or buy on fromt he RMAH on HC and for that reason alone i'm going Softcore to try make a few quid here and there.

Same genre as Torchlight, you crawl through dungeons and kill enemies in your path that drop items which you equip, give to friends or trade away. Plus there is quite a good story, I found that lacking in Torchlight 1.

Running through the game is highly individual. Some might want to finish the story on normal and be done with it. Some might enjoy another run-through of normal on a different class (each class plays in a vastly different way). And others might follow through the story through each difficulty (Normal - Nightmare - Hell - Inferno). Then you have those that enjoy the progression on different characters, hoarding items and engaging in the community. In several ways its very MMO-like with persistent characters, items, trading, socialising and such.

In addition, smashing hordes of monsters to tiny bits is incredibly fun.

I'd think blizz customer service would have a hard time if someone bought something on HC RMAH and they died, asking for refund. So I can see why they removed that. I only played softcore in D2, but think hardcore can be fun in D3 for the added challenge. Apparently Inferno is going to be very hard.

Softcore is going to be full with atleast botted items after few months, that's going to devaluate items in RMAH I think. Don't think any westerners can live off it, but maybe make back the cost of the game or enough to buy a few beers every week.

Eh? You are dissing HC because you can't RMT the incredibly OP loot that drops there and that would make any sort of competitive pvp "pay to win"?

Among other reasons yes. HC will be alot more taxing than it was in D2, D2 it was piss easy to get carried through acts then get boosted in constant baal runs, this won't be like that thus i'm not willing to sink the time nor effort into it... why do I need to? We have arena when Blizzard add it, I can do that for PvP as opposed to collecting ears from public games from an overgeared HC char :p

I played HC in D2 for a good few years none stop, its fun getting maxed out etc and even more fun when you have amazing gear to go with it (had a necro with enigma etc etc) what isnt fun is dying to silly shit you have no control over like server lag, dc's. The only upsides to HC were the rush you got when you almost die and the challenge of it :p this time around it just seems terribly pointless given how D3 functions.

Yeah I can see that, especially dieing for factors you have no control over like lag or disconnect.

For me HC will be the next challenge after softcore. I stopped playing D2 in patch 1.10, before runewords and such took completely off, but before then I had some pretty silly good characters. Of course many of the items traded were duped, as the ignorant teen I was, should have realised it was stupid to trade for 160dmg /60ias armor, perfect uniques and 1.06 patch items. All my accounts got hit by the giant banhammer some months after 1.10, so stopped playing because of that.

Same as you the most fun was the progression, maxing out by getting the best items for the most effective builds. Plus I've played the beta a fair bit now and it still fun, even though cap is level 13. Mostly because combat is incredibly fun

HC mode was never about anything but that red text below your name....and its awesome! :D

Without RMAH it's pretty much the same experience.

I know where my time will be, getting it free, unless i pop 80€ into the CE, which seems cheap as hell considering.

I preordered the CE yesterday, it costs alot but it feels so worth it

And it is the praise that this game deserves. As an ex-D2 fanatic I was put off by the large changes compared to D2. Like no stat pumping, free skill resets and the auction house. But they have gone against the wind of the dedicated D2 playerbase and crafted a very good gaming experience that is wholly Diablo

Watching videos or reading opinions might give mixed impressions, but you won't get to know how fun it is before you get some hands on time with it. The power rush from smashing tens or even hundreds of demons from hell in the span of seconds is incredible. Hopefully all that are interested get beta access some time before launch just to try for themselves

Would like to try it for sure but in a way it has me even more excited for release.

How's the game performance wise?

To get a feel of gameplay without beta access, there are plenty of 720p/1080p vids of "Let's play D3" on youtube

What do you mean performance wise? i.e. computer specs?
Runs fine on my 4 year old Intel Core2Duo E8400, 4GB RAM with newish GTX 560Ti 1024mb. Can lag sometimes, because EU beta users connect to US servers afaik (~180 ping). Combat is fluid and the attacks string together very well. Models are low poly, which is typical for blizz games but the textures are top notch.

Barbarian or monk. All classes are immensely fun, so really hard to decide. But have to narrow it down:)
