These days £20 for a game is quite a lot, especially for something as low-fidelity as this.

They've not even announced it's on steam yet; I reckon they'll lower the price when the proper game is out?

Oh, I notice it is still early access alpha...one of those games that will forever be alpha as an excuse for bugs.

It certainly doesn't have the Arma III vibe about it, that's for sure.

I was actually having a convo with Mabs about this about an hour ago, we came to the conclusion that Dean Hall is stuck in the "LOL I'M A GOD!" loop.

things I didn't like about this (and do note I will be buying it regardless, doesn't mean I have to like everything about it though)

- Price, they said it would be initially priced low like a Minecraft model which was about £6.99 back in the day, think Minecraft is about £9.99 these days so Dean lied out of his arse on that one. Had DayZ Standalone gone on sale for £10 he would have sold a lot more copies than £20, proven to work by Notch.

- All of the gimmicky custom shit they're adding is going to harm the game more than do it good, who wants to sit and fiddle around with complex crafting/maintaining item stability when some cunt can just join the server and go "LOL HAX" and kill everyone instantly pretty much erasing XX hours of work? I've said it once I'll say it 1000 times more - there - is - no - such - thing - as - anti-cheating, hackers will always find a way around save guards.

I can almost 100% guarantee they will dumb down the crafting complexity when they realise it was a huge mistake in the long run after XXXX forum posts crying about hackers and how they've lost hundreds of hours of work/crafting/gathering.

- It looks dated as fuck, even if they do up the graphics X months down the line in the Alpha its always going to look like an old game and is held back by the Arma 2.5 engine, they should have went straight for the Arma 3 engine.

To be fair @BloodOmen I think the £7 model was when it was just going to be a mod. Whilst I don't see this stand alone as really being an individual game I can see why the price has gone out of the window.

He's still a bell end though, if he'd released the original I'd have bought it and played it because there was a good buzz on here about it and it sounded like a laugh, now it's £20, everyones moaning about it, it's an alpha game from a studio instead of a guy hacking together a mod (so I'm less sympathetic towards bugs, etc) and it's taken far too long to arrive.

All he's done is make me want to reinstall Left 4 Dead.

No, the cheap model was for standalone back when it was first announced. And yes he is a bell :p I think his ego has got caught up in the fame thrust upon him by DayZ the mod and as Mabs was saying they had a good window to do something magical as there was only WarZ out there for competition, now there are loads of clones popping up all over the place its only a matter of time before one of those clones hits the "I win" button and becomes the new DayZ basically eclipsing the work that they've done to standalone.

Watching people streaming this and it looks very very buggy still, dont care that much bout the price so thinking i'll try it regardless. I'm still playing the DayZ mod on some private hive and having fun with that.

I've played it some, feels a bit slower than the versions I've been playing lately, but it's good, same map, I was in the firestation at Elektro power station last night, got killed obviously :) Haven't even see a gun yet.

Hate how it's night all the time though, it will definitely stop me playing.

Just turn up gamma and brightness, makes it somewhat ok, except inside buildings where you kind of have to use flashlight.

Was enjoying the game at start but now the bugs are out in force. Game keep crashing just a few seconds after load in and now I randomly got black screen of (doom) unconcious after logging in. Hopefully get sorted soon with update.

That's my problem with stumping up money to play Alpha, in days gone past Alpha was done in-house or at least a small group of people and then a slightly larger beta test and was free but you were expected to test it. Testers were expected to report bugs and help the devs get the game ready for launch. In this case you are expected to pay to Alpha test a game that may or may not ever see a full, final and relatively bug free release. Bugs and stuff are part of beta, the game's quality cannot be judged on alpha or beta code, strictly speaking people who stop playing when they run into bugs in a alpha or beta test shouldn't be allowed anywhere near alpha/beta code.

Meh, will still see about picking it up in the sale though!

Lack of can openers is probably killing 80% of the playerbase atm. If not the never ending "i'm thirsty, i'm hungry, my mouth is dry, I could use a drink, I need to eat, my head hurts, i'm feeling lightheaded" WHINING!

Still fun though, they just need to fix the damn unconcious shit

The game summed up so far:

So basically, War Z?

Which reminds me. What if we'd make a revisit there? It might have shaped up.

You start hungry and thirsty, try and find a well and drink till it tells you, that you are done. You can mooch around for a good while then without having the thirsty messages pop up.

I was lucky enough yesterday to wander into someone with his back to me. I smashed his head in with a baseball bat to discover he was loaded with gear :p Just need a knife to cut up animals and I'm pretty much self sufficient! Still need a gun though :)

The game has its glitches, but it feels much better than the mod from a smoothness perspective. There's still nothing out there that makes you feel like Dayz does in the dark when you here gun shots.

The NWAF was loaded with M4A1s. I managed to get there and got loaded with gear, got into a shootout and lost all :(

Hear there are some army bases scattered around also

Yeah It's bloody dark again but I'm relatively comfortable at the moment. I'm making my way up past Berezino and beyond to the Northern Air strip. Just come across a massive boat which has been beached, typically it looks like it was a fucking beanie hat cargo ship :p

Elektro on a full server, bad idea if you don't have a deathwish.

I'm having trouble finding loot now because so many servers are full, seems to be people everywhere and everyone chases after you with their axe.
The only thing that is in abundance are different types of hats. It seems that when zombie apocalypse hits everyone leaves their headwear around :p

All servers are packed and loot doesn't respawn, feels kind of useless to play right now :S

That's why it clearly states on the purchase screen "We recommend you do not buy the game now" :p

Dave, you still got a mumble server, and who is the one we use with the Scots? - We should link up on some place.
