Will be interesting to see the group makeup in catacombs. I suspect scouts will become the main tanks in pve groups. I can't see many chosing to level pallys and arms in catacombs after seeing what awaits them in NF.

3 heretics tanking
2 heretics healing
2 heretics nuking

WoW has "new and shiny" going for it at the moment.

In a few months time when it's no longer "new and shiny" we shall see what lasting effect it has on the daoc population.

I agree.

You see it with every big MMORPG to date. Once the newness effect wears off you'll notice that the improvements to the genre aren't that big. WOW is the typical evolution of a MMORPG. It is what DAOC was to EQ at its release. It has most of the same features but implemented them just that little bit better to draw in the masses. Once you're in they will promise you the stars which in turn will keep you hooked.

If WOW doesn't sort out the PVP system properly before EU release or soon after there are going to be A LOT of bored level 60s. So if this isn't implemented by the time I'm 60 they won't see my subscription money until they release said system. No more playing the waiting game in the hope that the game will live up to the promises of the developers.

One thing I don't doubt is that the release of WOW EU initially will have a huge impact on the population of DAOC, but the people that left DAOC because of it being DAOC (like me) will not be satisfied with the endgame of WOW as it stands now.

World Of Warcraft and DAoC, please dont compare these two games, because WoW is so much better. DAoC died a long time ago, and when European WoW is released, DAoC and many other MMORPG games will suffer a BIG blow on there servers, with very small amount of people to play with.

Everything I've seen about Catacombs looks good.

From what I've read on the WoW boards there are already the complaints of:

1) Gank groups
2) Zerging to counter gank groups
3) Macro abuse
4) Speed hacks
5) Underpowered classes (read the warrior compared to paladin posts that sounded so familiar ;) )

When the shinyness wares off we'll get a better idea of how WoW fares and how DAOC is affected. When the powergaming l33t kiddies are all tooled up and wtfpwning the average player with their madskillz and tictakz will be the true test.

Besides knocking DAOC is k00l at the moment...

Agreed, Bracken - all MMOs have a tendency to bring out the same traits in those who play them over time. And DAOC-bashing is the current FOTM among people who would rather whine than play. WoW will end up having just as many downsides as DAOC, but with the added disadvantage of looking like cel-shaded vomit at the same time.

you havent compared the crafting system in WoW to DAoC have you? ;) or the fact you dont have any loading time except when you go to the second cont (theres 2). or the fact pvp is fun not a giant lagg fest like the one in DAoC (strafing anyone)

the way i see it, is not that wow is much better then daoc, but that daoc has been fucked up and its time for something different :p

Out of interest, could you tell me why Mourning isn't just the next shitty failed MMORPG? ie; why should I go play Mourning when it comes out?

Playing WoW US atm, and loving it. ToA took the bad in the start, but was ok after all the stuffs was sorted. NF took the piss tho.

I understand people leaving because they want to try something different, DAOC has really changed after all. Whether you regard it as fucked up or not is entirely subjective ofc ;) Personally, although I've had to change how I play the game I'm enjoying it much more now than at anytime since TOA came out. Then again I never had a fixed view of how the game should be played - it has always been a case of adapt to circumstances. As to how WoW holds up, I still think the same tests will apply over time as with anygame :)

I think in one respect WoW might benifit DAoC in the long run.
When WoW is euro released many people will move to it. Some will come back to DAoC, some will stay with WoW and some people will play both.
But if the numbers who leave and stay away are high enough then Mythic will have a problem.
One thing Mythic may try in order to tempt people back would be for them to actually LISTEN to the player bases point of view for once.
They could actually FIX the issues that people have with DAoC rather than giving out answers like "Working as intended" or "Will be reviewed later with the styles review".

Give waiting for Team Fortress 2 option. Hopefully they will make it as good as TFC was if they make it at all.

Best team-play game ever. Played offense myself but would like to try defense if TF2 ever makes it out.

I'll stick with DAoC! =)
I've played since it released, but it could be important to try something new too..
To the Goa guys: Please don't shut down DAoC! =)))

Tilda, you should add a new option in the poll:

5: "Move to anything else if GOA can't get Opentranshit to stop fucking up the game."

Damn right. At this point I don't care what the next mmog is like as long as it doesn't lag. Hmm maybe I should reactivate CoH, despite playing on a west coast US server lag there was far less of an issue than GOA servers currently. :p

i'm gonna stick with DAOC...due to rl commitments (wife and baby, mainly), i don't have time to spend leveling new characters up.

Plus WoW, looks too like a cartoon.

Ive played all three major mmorpgs the last three weeks (WoW US, EQ2, DAoC) and the first days both WoW and EQ2 was great "new" games and DAoC didnt get many minutes of my playtime (which been hughe). But now when these weeks have passed the tables have turned again, the "new" thrill is gone already and it feels kinda to go to "work" to level them chars in them new games ... so been most DAoC again for me. Still have all 3 games active though and havent decided which one/ones to shut down after the free months.

I tend to play mmorpg's at launch and then reactivate accounts if and when they release add ons or patches that interest me so i'll be looking at wow.

Atm im playing daoc (for nf) and UO:Samurai kingdoms (for SK)

Camelot is definately the one i play least but like a previous poster said, hang on to those items/chars etc.
You never know, one day DAOC may retake the title of king of the mmorpg's, or become FOTM again, just as you might meet an american you actually like.

Well i got bored waiting for the EU release of WoW so baught the US version. Really loving the game. Level 32 warrior at the moment and the game is a blast.

Some really nice features and fluff in the game, like the Gnome/Goblin race track in Shimmering Lake (Thousand Needles). In fact i can't think of a single thing ive done in 32 levels that has been boring. Even the so called tedious kill xx mob quests are actually fun because there are other things i can do while killing. ie mining for materials for crafting (im an Artisan Blacksmith), Making Bandages for first my first aid skill (Artisan Also).

To me Blizzard just a great job of making the game fun regardless of what your doing. Hell even roaming around for hours can be fun because there are some amazing places in the game.

Think its more to do with WoW's PvE being "fun" and there's none of this ML/ToA/Artifact crap.

No one has really seen the PvP in WoW to its fullest as its not even properly implemented yet, until there are plenty of level 60 players and the PvP reward system, followed by tweaks etc, its impossible to judge.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Daoc had no RA ML TOA ARTIFACT either until recently in the years its been going.

You think WoW wont get outta hand either?

WoW uberness PvE as you speak of it will also get fucking boring and there will be standard places to exp other more deserted like in daoc
ppl will fast understand what items are best and screw the rest useless ones just as in daoc

Quests will be powerleveled done to get the xp and hit lvls faster just as in daoc.

The lure of the new shiny toy

Just looked at the WoW boards to see what issues are being raised by the players there
(Link: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.aspx?fn=wow-general), some thread names:

Nerf Warriors
Macroing and xml - ban?
Blizzard I woke up this morning (rant)
AFK boting? Can I get a blue response?
OMG Warroirs wtf
Completely un-acceptable
Frost shock is overpowered as hell

And my favorite:

I'm afraid to teach my daughter how to fish =)

Sounding familiar? Except the fishing bit ofc, lol. Once the shine on the new toy is off, I'm sure many of those 240 who want to leave forever will be back.

Just my 2 coppers.
