DAoC vs WoW

My opinion - yours will be different.....

Playing WoW EU beta for past 3 weeks and it is everything - and more - than I could ever have wished for.

For me, gameplay is so much more than daoc ever was, quite simply daoc was good in its time but is 'old hat' now. I feel much more relaxed and less stressed than I ever felt in ages. Levelling is brilliant! Not a 'grind' at all and the quests and discovery XP all add to the overall fun. I find the atmosphere colourful, vibrant and exciting, not drab, grey and featureless like daoc. The mobs and chars are imaginitive and modern, call them 'cartoonish' if you wish, but to me they fit, in fact they fit very well, into the overall concept.

I'm a herbalist and alchemist plus fishing expert (you need fish for some potions) and thoroughly enjoy the crafting element as I can 'level' whilst simply travelling through the kingdom.

On my PvE server you can do PvP but it is not the hardcore stuff you get in daoc, but believe me there have been some great mini battles!

At higher levels the chars are awesome to look at and I can't wait to get my personal 'mount' at L40.

All in all 10 out of 10 and although I will pop in on rare occasions, sadly, the end of my daoc playing days for me.

For me the 1st 6 months of daoc were magical... A combination of exploration and it being my 1st mmorpg made it amazing and as a gamer it's something I'll never forget.... It's something that I think I could enjoy again with WoW but I'm not sure.

Trust me you don't wanna be on a high population PvP server, rogue is very fotm in WoW and there are always loads around stealthed looking for questing lower levels to kill (same with hunters, they too are quite fotm lowbie killers cuz of the speed, fast pet and ranged movement reduction attacks)
But if you play on a pve server you probably wont have that problem...

Well, do you get off your stealth styles, and then use vanish to use them again? Hunters suck in Meele. When a rogue jumps you, you need to get off wing clip and run off, hoping to get off stun on concussion. Then the rogue is dead, if you fail you are dead.

Its just a pity how much a hunter rely on his gun/bow, and since pet is only extra dmg people dont even bother with it, if they do the hunter will kill them. Would like to see something like the sm pet on the hunters pet.

WoW is absolutely nothing special at all, it offers NOTHING, i cant even be bothered explaining, only 9 days left for all the losers who didnt get in beta to waste their £30, try and prove to themselfs that it is good, when its shit, and eventually come back here.

Please will someone tell me what everyone seems to of got in their head that makes them think WoW is something special because i really just cant understand it.

But I think that when people say that a game is 'better' they mean that they enjoy it more then the other, and when they tell about 'what is better' they mean stuff that they enjoy more. Ofc not everyone likes it, havent seen a game yet which everyone likes, but it never ceases to amaze me how ballistic some people can go over stuff like this

and no im not pro anything, wow has its ups and downs, but from the looks of it, it will probably turn out to be more succesful then daoc, ofc they had the luck of having some other succesful titles and had a much bigger budget to start with...

i've been playing WoW for 2 days and i'm already enjoying it more than last 6months that i pld daoc there is just so much more to it, more detail more atmosphere and its hardly cartoon graphics (as was stated about 10pages ago) in fact the only quaral i have with it is there is no cheap horse system like in daoc so up until about lvl 15 when you start to earn morning its rather...well hard to get about.

I like the way quests are actually worth doing but i dislike the way theres no point in grp'g for pve until later.

for me its defiantly WoW tauran are just to good to pass on.

Not sure if i get your point totally but i think your getting at the fact that its going to be diff in retail as it will in Beta.

It wont be, its the same patch and playing US retail stuff happens just the same as EU beta, aside from less Americans which is a good thing, if a hunter jumps a rogue then most of the time the rogue will die, even if the rogues a better player

Can I respond to Korosu ( who is clearly a troll). There are alot of ex-DAOC players posting here who have played DAOC since day one (I played before day 1 on US servers) Now that doesn't make us 'real players' not does it make us hardcore, nor does it mean our views are any more important than yours; however... the facts from someone in FB who has got to lvl 30 on a PvP server (not much I know!) - facts based on my opinion echoed by experienced MMORPG players - don't forget this type of game isn't actually that mature yet in market terms..

What is better about WoW:

More immersive quests
Personal mounts
No buff bots
Immersive environment/background story
24 hour GM assistance
It's not a job! (read solo/casual player friendly)
A committed and trusted dev team
Dynamic PVE
Crafting that is not boring and is useful at all levels
Most of my old mates from TB/NO and FC are there!
No insta death
No PVE death penalty to spak of
No mob camping for weeks only to see the con/dur fade
Many more things I'm too tired to point out

What is better about DAOC:

Mature and proven PvP system
Grouping/social system
More race/class choice (at present)
Seems more 'realistic'
A mythology I can relate to
A (reasonably) mature player base
It was my first MMORPG love (I was playing AO before - go figure uke: )

Don't get me wrong - I love(d) DAOC and I miss it; I searched through SWG/EQ2 and other games to find a replacement.

I honestly believe have found it - I'll let you know in 6 months. Not sure if the people who decry it have tried it with an open mind but I have and I love it.

lol at trying to have a buffbot in WoW. thats never gonna happend as there isnt 1 class that have acess to all the buffs. ud need 3 or 4 diffrent "bots" to get most of the basic buffs... ok theres potions but they either sux coz they have to low value or costs a bloody fortune to get

and no pve death penalty to speak of? 75% nerf to EVERYTHING for 10 minutes isnt a penalty? thats 75% less armor, all the stats, the damage done etc etc etc... ok all that isnt happening if u acually bother to runn all the way back to ur corpse to rezz. but chances are that ud just die again the second u rezzed.

and there cant be any camping of the "ubar leet mobs" that drop phat lewt as they are all inside instances so u will never ever have 400+ ppl trying to bully their way infront of the line to get to the mob that drop whatever it is they need. as all they need to do is gather the ppl needed and enter the instance




and thats the way i like it. ok u get the odd D2 kiddo that tries to charge 15 gold for a lvl 10 drop with no extra stats on it but meh...


P.S: about the costs of potions. yes i understand theres always Ebay to buy gold in. but blizard is keeping a very VERY close eye on the cash transactions in the game and ban everyone that they more or less even suspect have bought cash from Ebay. so if someone is offering u 100 gold for nothing, id say no thanks coz theres a big chance u would loose ur account coz of it... wich is GOOD imo. blizzard wants to keep a healthy economy ingame. just hope it works to.
