Didnt get so many SS's as i was too busy playing through pc demo (after having played 360 one already) that i didnt think to press the button enough! :<

Index of /files/bioshock Anyway, its purdy.

Just shame AA isnt supported in game and makes it look wazzy if forced, but that said it looks nice enough you dont need it.

Butter smooth in DX10 vistaness too :D

WAAAAAAAAAAARNING.

Stay away from forums that aren't heavily moderated discussing bioshock. I was on the 2k site discussing AA (which you can get working quite well btw, at least in dx9) and some tool posted 4 lines of spoilers that has basically made me not want to bother buying the game anymore. Be careful out there - you have been warned.

Well i have bought probably 10 games in the last year and downloaded another 20, the 10 i have bought i was happy to give the publishers money, the 20 i didn't pay for i wouldnt bat an eye lid if the companies folded. there is so much junk these days they need a bit of a cull

To be honest, its been a long time since I've encountered a game that's good enough for me to consider it worth the £30 / £35 I'd have to pay for it.. as soon as devs stop releasing so much trash then I'll start buying again.

Downloading has saved me a lot of money on games I wouldn't have been able to return simply due to poor quality. I play them 3/4 times max and then never touch them again..

Sure, I could try demos or reviews, but demos don't give the full picture and reviews frequently get it wrong for me.

I just don't like the idea of spending £30 and being disappointed, as I have been several times in the past, until it got too irritating (and expensive).. I used to be able to return them, but now that's not allowed so.. =/

I don't see it as stealing from devs as I certainly wouldn't buy the game if I couldn't try it out first and if they put out something that's worth my money, I buy it. To be honest, when a company like EA puts out a crappy title packed with false advertising and reviewers in their pockets not wanting to lose EA exclusives (or just with a different PoV), I feel like they're stealing from me - and I'm not falling for it again.

If games companies/reviews/demos were more reliable, then I wouldn't be in this situation. However, I know a lot of people out there who do download and never buy the good games, which sucks because you should support the devs that are worth it.

But as I said, by pirating games (and hence flaunting IP laws) you're feeding the mechanism that ensures that the majority of developers won't take risks and will work on what they know - i.e. by releasing the same generic shit over and over, because it's cheap.

Edit: also, the lack of a returns policy, which is something that is annoying, is BECAUSE of this kind of viewpoint. Whether or not it's justified, the fact that we're no longer able to return PC games is because of the perception of the prevalence of piracy. (Alliteration ahoy!) On the other hand, I'm not sure I can think of many other forms of entertainment (other than digital goods) that you can get full refunds on just for not liking it these days. Would you insist on getting a refund for, say, every visit to the cinema or music venue where the show didn't live up to the hype? This is the risk you take with entertainment, and is the point of things like reviews/demos.

(I could be wrong about this last point, as I've never actually tried to get a refund just on the basis of not enjoying a show. As that's kind of a dumb thing to do.)

What's so different about Bioshock? Plasmids? Just another weapon as far as I'm concerned.

which is a good thing :)

I know what you mean. It's tricky. I see myself as a responsible d/ler, if there can be such a thing, whilst I'm sure the vast majority couldn't give a t*** and just want something for nothing. For me, if they were to put the work in and make something worth my money, I would change my ways - I doubt the majority of people would though.

Would you insist on getting a refund for, say, every visit to the cinema or music venue where the show didn't live up to the hype?

This is probably why a fair few people download movies and music these days too :)

I've had a large experience of shite movies that don't live up to their own hype and bands that release CDs which only contain 2 good songs, etc. (the ones they release) - tis why I tend to rarely buy music these days unless I find a band I really like and that deserves my money.

The cinema, meanwhile, I really enjoy going to. Its expensive, but I like it and I enjoy most movies I watch there for some reason. I don't appreciate the obscene margins on the food and drinks meanwhile, so I do my best to sneak whatever I can in then - they're the knock off Nigel's tbqh. Watered down 15p pepsi costing £3.70, no thanks :]

If you have read anything about the game you would know it is not like a normal FPS its more a RPG/FPS type game for starters.

That's all i'm saying hope you have a good PC that can handle it seeing as its not out on the PS3.

Ofc at its heart its just another FPS but i mean seriously, if you consider yourself a proper gamer you can tell most of the time when a game oozes quality and when its run of the mill.

Combining RPG aspects, top notch graphics, great AI, fun minigames/exploring sidequests, awesome sound and addictive gameplaying is a hard book to follow and while no game is ever going to do it perfectly theres the odd gems that come damn close. If you still feel said game doesn't suit you then fine but there seems to be a lot of people who like to come across games like GoW/Bioshock etc and just go hey its shit lols just to be different or look cool.

Yay for bioshock!

For once I don't think Aada needs to back anything up it being the highest ranked game ever says it all really.

I didn't ask him to back up why it's a good game. I was asking how it plays differently to other FPS. How do review scores help me? :)

They help you by maybe reading some of them.

My CE edition (must have bigdaddy figure :)) should be here tomorrow but I doubt I'll play it until Friday night - I'm only going to play this in the dark, nice 3 day weekend so plenty of playtime.

Heh - thanks for the heads up yaka. PC limited edition pre-order cancelled. I don't really want it on the x360 so I guess I'll wait for a pirate copy. Anti piracy measures always end up hurting paying customers.

What a load of bollocks. 2 installs max? 2k really do not realise that by doing this they have just encouraged the use of downloaded versions and cracks.

If anyone does want the PC version then it should be available via Steam as well. Steam lets you re-download the game as many times as you need, it is linked to your account, not your hardware.

edit: OKay, maybe we all jumped the gun abit. 2ks responce:

hey guys,

first, let me say this. you DO NOT NEED TO USE THE INTERNET EVERY TIME YOU PLAY THIS GAME. it is only the first time.

second, you can uninstall and reinstall this game, and if, by chance, you have 2 computers you want to simultaneously play this game on, you also can do that.

if by some chance you are reinstalling this game without uninstalling it first, a lot, there is a chance you may have to call securom and get a key, or deactivate some older installations.

but if you upgrade your hardware next week, you'll still be able to play the game. if you revamp your system and need to reinstall bioshock, just uninstall it before you go through the overhaul, and then do your reinstall.

calling it "hardware fingerprinting" is a bit alarmist. we do not transmit any of your data to any companies.

really, the only people who will be concerned about any of these security measures are those who are rapidly putting bioshock on many pcs... if you use the game as you normally do, you won't notice this at all.

So two installs AT ANY ONE TIME. As long as you uninstall one of your two installs you can reinstall on a different pc.

dont wanna sound daft but how many different comps do you plan to play at the same time exactly? sure some of us are leet at FPS, but im not sure i could play it on 2 different machines on maybe even different levels, at the same time.
not sure what the prob is tbh, i dont know why youd need it on more than 2 comps.
