As long as the power connectors aren't on the end! I know they aren't in this case but they were for me once back along, you'd think they would've included that detail in the maximum length.

No, they're on the top. That should be fine, though the card is deep and so they will be quite close to the case side.

I think that's about the size of it. Multi GPU setups always have *some* issues.

I must admit 2x Fury X is my first foray into multi GPU and it's not been without its issues (really poor minimum frame rates leading to stuttering being the most annoying). All games I've played have behaved themselves but honestly a single Fury X is probably powerful enough for my needs. Playing stuff absolutely maxed at 3440x1440 is quite lovely though.

Nah. Went from a TNT + 2 Voodoo 2s to a TNT2 Ultra + 2 Voodoo 2s (for Glide games) to a GeForce 2. 3dfx jumped the shark badly :)

this is what I did too. 2x the Voodoo2 was just jaw dropping good back in the day!

Came >< that close to buying a Pascal Titan but didn't. I can get two 1080's for about 300 euros more and I can have two 1070's for about 400 euros less than the 1310 euros Nvidia want. I can't make myself do anything atm FFS

Just get a single 1080. It will eat all games at 1440p ultra settings.

I have a 4K screen chum. Should I get a single to just give it a whirl? Rocking SLI'd 970 GTX's atm.

You might have to tone the AA down a bit but yes, I would. Even a Pascal Titan wouldn't be silky smooth in 4K on Ultra.

yeah...ish. I can't make myself pay the premium for a maybe-30% general performance boost. I'll get a 1080 and see. at the least it will be the same or better than my SLI setup at a much lower power consumption.

If you can bear it you might as well wait a generation until HBM2 comes from both companies next year. I don't think you will be satisfied at 4k with a 1080. Depending on screen size, you might or might not need AA (I see jaggles at 32" with no AA but it's less of a problem the smaller you go).

I see those jaggies too. I'm going on the feeling that a 1080 can outperform two 970's. Atm I'm fine with 4K and framerates that are 40 <> 60 due to my gsync monitor.

One powerful card is always going to be a smoother experience than a multi-gpu setup and the 1080 does look to be more powerful than 2 970's in SLI but will it be *enough* more powerful for you to not think "hrmph" after you buy it?

tbh I tend to think "hrmph" after buying lots of things because while I am sensitive to the bang-for-your-eurobuck value of things I actually don't do compromises very well at all. I'll prolly get this 1080 to tide me over until next year. atm I'm tied between the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW GAMING ACX 3.0 8GB (what's in a name?) and the equally shitly named Asus ROG STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING. the latter is slightly higher clocked but also about 80 euros more expensive.

I've got 2x 980 Strix and they're very solid, so my bias would be for the Asus.

okay I bit the bullet and got a 1080! I ended up with the Inno3D GeForce GTX 1080 - iChill X3 - 8GB. Those pesky review sites tell me I'll be fine with it for a good time to come and it should outperform my two 970's well enough. Although it was quite expensive at 700odd eurobucks (~3000 GBP) it was over 100 eurobucks cheaper than the Asus. Sooooo if anyone wants to take my 970's off my hands, I still have the boxes and everything. The cards work quite well for all their flaws tbh.
