I personally don't find John Grisham books very exciting... seem like they're very conveyor belted, written because he has to, rather than because he has to... that said, the Client is quite good, and The Street Lawyer did make me think about the plight of homeless people.

I'm reading "Lullaby" by Chuck Palahniuk at the minute (author of Fight Club for starters).

Now I read "Choke" by him on the way over to France recently and I couldn't put it down, pretty much read it in one sitting.

I got halfway through this one and pretty much stalled :( That's not like me at all, just can't seem to get on with it. His style of writing is fantastic, just the subject matter is bollox imho (not going into detail as I don't want to spoil it).

I also got halfway through a book about Sir Alec Guinness that claimed to be a biography and is in fact just the author obsessing about if Guinness was gay or not :/ Dull in the extreme.

Its the first book of his I've read. I am pleased I didnt buy it.

I have now finished it and I cant say I was impressed at all....its was really just a bunch of stuff that happened which was really of no interest to anyone.

I dont think I'll be reading anymore of his books....

John Grisham, Micheal Chrichton, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. The list goes on...

All formulaic, boring bollocks.

Just started reading 'The Gate' by Francois Bizot, an autobiographical account of his cativity and subsequent role in Cambodia. Early days yet, but I do think I am going to have trouble putting it down.

just started "Ring of five Dragons" by Eric van Lustbader.

Very different from his other "Ninja" type books (which are also well worth a read)

still not sure what to make of it tbh

how is it? I read The Ninja and The Miko ages ago, and thinking back I wasn't all that impressed.

its not too bad atm.

Lots of detail which can be hard going but as a "Fantasy" book it isnt too bad.

Funnily enough, I liked his "Ninja" book, and all the subsequent books

Floating City
Dai-San
Black Heart
The Miko
White Ninja

I thought Zero was one of his better books

But after you read one, they all become samey... plus all the hokey pokey talk of martial arts, mixing ninjitsu with kenjitsu and taek wondo to create some form of superior fighting machine... just isn't possible. As Laz said, treat it as a fantasy series, and it's not bad... :)

Midnight tides was good, carry's on the trend of the odd numbered books setting up the even numbered ones, more backstory explained. Thoroughly recommended!

Just finished 'Market Forces' by Richard Morgan, pretty good dystopian view of the future, although how dystopian after I've been having a look at this 'cheap oil' thing...

Just started 'Pandora's Star' by Peter F. Hamilton, pretty good so far!

Just Finished Midnight Tides... ugh. I need the next one already.

Next buy will probably be A Feast for Crows, if he'd get around to finishing it.

Steven Erikson is such a breath of fresh air in fantasy!

Altered Carbon, a great book! You tried the books by Neal Asher, Gridlinked, Skinnerm et al.

Finished the Peter F Hamilton, it's plot is strangely familiar, only different in the details to the Night's Dawn Trilogy! :( Hope it isn't just a rehash!

Started reading 'Absolution Gap' by Alastair Reynolds, heard not very good things about it, but I have to finish the trilogy!

Death of a Damsel - The Inside Story of the World's First Femal Serial Killer. by Sue Russell

Basically a true crime book about Aileen Wuornos. I'd read about her b4 but I recently saw the film 'Monster' and wanted to compare the two.
Quite an extensive book imo. Interesting insight into the early formative years and detalied descriptions of the lives of the victims and their families.

Currently about half way through 'Vernon God Little' by DBC Pierre.
I am enjoying it. It does make you think though.

I read the first 4 Iain M Banks culture novels a couple of years back and really enjoyed them, Well i finally got round to buying the rest and im currently half way through Excession, With Inversions and Look to windward to look forward to.
They really are all excellent books, Id recommend them to anyone. And you certainly shouldnt be put off by the fact that its "sci-fi"

After that ive got another pile to move onto, Namely Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny, Speaker for the dead by Orson Scott Card and then the remainder of the song of ice and fire series by George R R Martin.
I really do spend far too much money on books :)
