What's the biggest and best ocean-going live-aboard I could get for 100 grand.

Always wanted to sell my house and fuck off round the world and live on a boat. Like Quincy :)

You could get a second-hand sailing yacht around 40-45m. 100K seems to be about the going rate. Of course the cost of running a boat is the real killer.

I met this guy on holiday who spent his life going to countries where millionaires have their yachts, he would paint the yacht with a special paint or something, he was saying he had a 3 week long job and was given a huge amount of pay to do it, and the guy who owned the yacht was like do it in two weeks and ill give you a couple more grand to spend on your week off in this baking hot sun

That's the bit I know absolutely nothing about. :(

I get the impression from various people I've known with boats down the years that its a bit like owning a football team; a good way to turn a large fortune into a small one.

My ex-wife is now the office manager for a boat yard in the south of France, I'm sure I could get some real figures for you if you like.

my lady friend of the time and I got friendly with a couple in France who lived off their sailing yacht. after a few bottles the fellow offered to sell me the boat as they were thinking of kids, settling down and getting boring. the asking price was well over a mil, but what really freaked me out was the running costs. I asked the guy what he did for a living and he mentioned he didn't really work, but when they were in warm places he would be a freelance diving instructor or some such. After that I stopped believing I would ever own a decent yacht :(

I'm a telemarketer... yeah. It's shit. I sell radon tests to households by phone. I guess I should see something positive in it? Like, I'm saving lives? But that takes a kind of optimism I just can't summon. It's 40 hours a week with shit pay, shit environment, shit perks, and it's utterly thankless. The only real positive thing I've gotten out of this job is a fuckload of time to spend on my online dating profile(lol)

I start studying in the fall though so that's an escape from this bullshit. Going to get an organisational sociology degree, which will probably land me in some HR department but I'm hoping I'll end up doing some negotiations for unions.

Mate, I prefer talking to people who take the piss. Honestly, the few bright memories of phonecalls made I have are with people who are wasting my time :p

Dynamics and Sharepoint skills are gold-dust at the minute in the contract market. I get phone calls nearly every day asking if I want to be a Sharepoint admin or some such just because I mention Sharepoint in my CV :)

Decided to test this last night. I updated my CV and stuck it on Monster. Already had several calls regarding both =| Awkward.

I'm an accountant. Self employed but do most of my work subcontracting for firms of Accountants. Especially strong at double entry an accounts preparation but can hold my own with company and personal taxation. Have good VAT knowledge even if it isn't a subject I like a great deal!

Recently started doing the bookkeeping for a German company breaking into the UK and they offered me a job. Don't think they could afford me or even get the best use out of my skill set at this point but maybe in the future. Would like to try my hand at running a company's accounts department at some stage, although with 50 on the horizon that might be something I need to move into sooner rather than later.

What you don't work for a local place and are considering working for a company from another country? I just don't know how you could have any passion for something that isn't from your own town.

Plastic accountant.

According to most of the wankers on here you're just work-shy and should never strike ;)

With respect I think most people have the wrong idea of what the core services are.

Healthcare isnt actually critical - the really critical jobs supply basic needs like gas/electricity and food/water.

Without those critical jobs you dont have a functioning society.

People are just so used to them being there that they no longer notice them.

Ok, so healthcare isn't critical for a functioning society....but if EVERY single nurse in all the london hospitals walked out on strike simultaneously.....a lot of people would die. Might help with overcrowding the population explosion and stuff....but still....

To be fair, it's only critical to current society. We would have a functioning society without electricity too.

So if we really want a critical job, that would be teachers. Then again, we could teach our own larva to suck eggs.

I guess, nothing NEEDS to be done, or in very short terms; job's a job.
